A Look Back: TAKII 17 ~Densetsu~ Breaks Ground & Records, PLUS Gets Immortalized In "Historic Archives"!
Celebrating the most successful season in the history of The Asian Karaoke Idol Invitational!
June 30th, 2014 -- Upper Darby, PA -- By throwing together the most dynamic parts of Asian music, anime, gaming, & culture in ways unseen & paralleled, we have stood the test of time, now entering our long-awaited growth & expansion with the coming of TAKII 17 ~Densetsu~! Having taken place from Philly, PA's The Rotunda on June 14th & 15th, 2014 (10:00am - 11:00pm EST on both days), our celebratory 17th season became THE go-to destination for ANY Asian culture fan this particular spring/summer festival/convention season as we payed tribute to the most LEGENDARY & TIMELESS facets of this fandom we have had so much passion for. Boasting re-vamped "TAKII Coordinator Classix" & "TAKII Family Favorites" festivities, a formidable roster of "Returning Legend" & "Brand-New Debut" guests & performers, perfect partnerships, increased swag sponsorships, & expanded hours, this season was the fruit of everyone's shared sacrifices & support since our inception. We challenged our fusion festival family to "answer the call of that pounding J-Rock beat, throw on your best cosplay couture, grab that joystick, & claim your moment in the otaku-saturated sun only at TAKII 17 ~Densetsu~"....& it was enthusiastically accepted!
Despite the fact that public transportation wasn't cooperating on Day 1 (due to a partial SEPTA strike for its Region Rail System), by 11:00am (1 hour in), we already had crowds at the door & people lined up outside, waiting to get in! Screenings of rare anime titles, a panel done by Andy HG (on he finer points of import gaming), & a few intense rounds of "Last Otaku Standing" kept TAKII 17's attendees busy until it was time to begin the "TAKII 17 Show". As hosted by our "Brand-New Debut" & drag queen extraordinaire, Anastasia Oxnuttz, after 4 rounds of memorable (& "I wish I could forget that" moments), we crowned longtime TAKII Family member, Avery, our new "TAKII Show" Champion! Before we capped Day 1 off with our longest "Ota-Rave" in fusion festival history (via special guest DJ Adam Tuttle), the highlight of Day 1 (if not the entire weekend) was our "Makenai Concert", featuring performances by The Asterplace & Mr. Cake (a new Chinese Fusion band), Masato Itoh (an alum of the illustrious Video Game Orchestra & Ani-On Live), & a tribute to TAKII Founder, D-chan's late brother & father, Allen & John Christopher (who had passed away April 3rd & 12th, 2014 respectively). Everything came to an absolutely STOP once the video tribute for these beautiful souls played, with words shared LIVE by the surviving members of the Christopher Family (needless to say, there wasn't a dry eye in the house & many hugs were given). Based off of an absolutely spectacular 1st day, it was no surprise that Day 2 would end up being just as much of a success story, if not moreso (with performances by [Ai] & Love&Chocolate, "Cosplay Battle Royale ~Super Bowl~" played at Clark Park, "Gaming Tourneys" as facilitated by our Team TAKII volunteers, & so much more). TAKII 17 weekend would come to a close with "Lip Sync For Your Life" (hosted & roasted by none other than Anastasia Oxnuttz) & an additional dose of our infectious "Ota-Rave".
There are so many people we'd like to thank for making our collective dreams possible this particular weekend (from Team TAKII to all of our performers to The Rotunda to some special guests to our vendors to our panelists & everything in-between). TAKII 17 ~Densetsu~ couldn't have been as magical of a sold out weekend as it was without your support. As we sit here & type this "Historic Archives" recap (enriched with memories, multimedia, & MORE here: http://takii.pdnmz.com/historic-archives/takii-archive/takii17-densetsu), we are already missing our TAKII Family. We wish that we could wake up in the morning, be ready to open up The Rotunda, & then dance & sing our asses off in celebration of our wild fandom for yet another day. And looking from everyone's pics, videos, & experiences (much of which are chronicled here), it truly does wonders & touches us in a way that, as keen on words as we tend to be, makes us speechless. However, let's all take the lessons of love for each other, faith in ourselves, & a spirit of pure resolve into the future & continue to grow "the world's most extreme Asian culture fusion festival", THE premier fandom festival/convention experience in the Greater Philadelphia region & beyond, The Asian Karaoke Idol Invitational. The best is yet to come & we can't wait to unveil TAKII 18 come December 2014!
