West Virginia's Premiere Anime, Manga, Gaming & Pop Culture Convention Announces Programming Expansion Plans

September 15, 2014

HUNTINGTON, WV – Tsubasacon, West Virginia's Premiere Anime, Manga, Gaming and Pop Culture convention, now in its eleventh year serving the Tri‐State, will be returning to the Big Sandy Superstore Arena Conference Center in Huntington, WV. This year's convention will be held the weekend of October 10 ‐ 12, 2014.

Last year Tsubasacon gained another record attendance, with a 15% increase in total registrations, entertaining over 1,500 guests from 22 states.

Mayor Steve Williams will welcome the fans, guests and staff to Huntington during Opening Ceremonies on Friday, October 10.

To expand our growing list of programming, on Saturday, October 11th we will be adding space to provide more events that day only utilizing the Huntington City Hall Auditorium.

This October, Tsubasacon promises to provide local and regional anime and pop culture fans with some of the best guests, shows and expanded programming in its history. For example, new this year there will be a “live” cosplay parade, on Saturday, October 11. Participants will march from the Big Sandy Superstore Arena Plaza, through Pullman Square and over to the Huntington City Hall Auditorium where the Cosplay Masquerade and judging will be held. All cosplay groups and individuals will have the opportunity to demonstrate their favorite performance art through costumed role play attire and related fashion accessories. In addition, a “Zombie Walk” will be a part of the parade for some seasonal scary fun. “Retro‐gaming” is another new addition to this year's convention to satisfy those old school gamers. Tsubasacon 2014 will offer 10 tournaments over the three‐day event.

Special guests this year include D. C. Douglas, the sinister voice of Albert Wesker ("Resident Evil") a special pop culture guest. Douglas played the persnickety alien Zepht in "Star Trek: Enterprise" and Legion in the "Mass Effect" videogame series.

Other Voice actors include Charleston, West Virginia born Lisle Wilkerson who grew up in Japan and Paul St. Peter. Featured musical guest will be Eien Strife, which has been touring anime, comic and gaming conventions all over the United States.

Tsubasacon proudly continues to promote anime, manga, gaming, and pop culture in the Tri‐State area (West Virginia, Northeast Kentucky and Southern Ohio) and to establish a social framework through which anime and manga fans can interact with each other.
