Astronaut Soichi Noguchi to Appear at Animazement 2016

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA – April 21, 2016 – In keeping with their goals of education and cross-cultural collaboration between Japan and the United States, Animazement® has invited Japanese astronaut Sōichi Noguchi to appear at their Memorial Day weekend convention.

Noguchi was selected to be an astronaut candidate by the National Space Development Agency of Japan (currently Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA) in 1996. He has since trained with NASA at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, as well as at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia. He was a crew member for the STS-114 mission aboard the space shuttle Discovery, and has served on multiple missions aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Noguchi has logged a total of 177 days, 3 hours, and 5 minutes in space. He is currently the Chief of the JAXA Astronaut Group and was elected president of the Association of Space Explorers in 2014.

JAXA Public Relations specialist Akane Takahashi will also be appearing at the convention to talk more about satellites, astronauts' lives aboard the ISS, as well as JAXA and its mission.
