Viz Media Invests in Anime Recommendation/Community Platform Kitsu
posted on by Karen Ressler
Online anime database and community platform Kitsu announced on Wednesday that it has raised US$600,000 in seed funding from North American anime and manga publisher Viz Media and Philippines-based entrepreneur Bernard Chong. Kitsu is using the funds to redesign its website, in particular to expand its social capabilities.
Founder and CEO Josh Fabian launched the platform as "HUMMING BIRD" in 2013. The service allows users to track and rate anime and manga they have seen, and provides recommendations based on user preferences.
Chong and Viz Media's Chief Marketing Officer, Brad Woods, are joining the Kitsu board. Viz Media's Vice President of Business Development, Rob Pereyda, who led the deal, will serve as senior adviser.
