Manga University x Crunchyroll "Manga Cookbook Vol. 3" Special Edition
September 7, 2018
Manga University and Crunchyroll have teamed up to create "The Manga Cookbook Vol. 3: Japanese Fusion Food with Character!” (ISBN 979-4-921205-39-3). The collection of fully illustrated recipes, which includes a surprise dish prepared by Crunchryoll's mascot Hime, goes on sale today.
“For our third cookbook, we wanted to do something really special,” said Manga University president Glenn Kardy. “So we invited Crunchyroll-Hime over for dinner, and she brought dessert.”
The 192-page edition, written by the Manga University Culinary Institute and illustrated by Ryo Katagiri, features an imaginative menu that merges traditional Japanese food with other regional cuisines.
A colorful cast of manga characters introduces each of the 29 recipes, all of which feature illustrated step-by-step instructions. There's a mobile-suit pilot who snacks on umami potato nuggets during a tense showdown in space. A super-sized sumo wrestler who makes a mighty fine tofu burger. A digital pet that craves furikake-seasoned kettle corn. And a Neo-Tokyo cyborg who finds inner peace baking pizza toast. Plus many more.
“The Manga Cookbook Vol. 3” follows last year's publication of “The Manga Cookbook Vol. 2: More Popular and Delicious Japanese Dishes!” The original “Manga Cookbook” was released to critical acclaim in 2007, and remains one of the world's best-selling English-language Japanese cookbooks.
Manga University is the education imprint of Japanime Co. Ltd., a Tokyo-based publishing company and creative agency with a 20-year history in the manga and anime industry.
