Air (TV) Masterpiece Ah, Air, one of the animes that seriously got me into the scene. If not for this great anime, I wouldn't have watched even 1/10th of what I have. That being said, this work is a jewel that many more people should watch.
Air (movie) Masterpiece
Air In Summer (special) Masterpiece
Berserk (TV) Masterpiece
Canvas 2 - Niji Iro no Sketch (TV) Masterpiece Not as many people like this anime as much as I do, I honestly can't say why I like it so much myself. That aside, I truly do love this anime, it's one of those "love at first sight" things I guess.
Clannad (TV) Masterpiece
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (TV) Masterpiece
ef: a tale of memories (TV) Masterpiece
Elfen Lied (TV) Masterpiece A true masterpiece among masterpieces. This series has a great mixture of violence and drama that makes it the perfect series for those that like gore and love in one series. Warning, this series is NOT for those with weak stomaches.
Fruits Basket (TV) Masterpiece
Hunter X Hunter (TV) Excellent
Hunter X Hunter (OAV) Excellent
Hunter X Hunter: G I Final (OAV) Excellent
Hunter X Hunter: Greed Island (OAV) Excellent
I''s Pure (OAV) Masterpiece Great anime with a great storyline and based off of an even better manga. The anime doesn't follow the full storyline of the manga, but just hits the bigger scenes in the manga, but they did a very good job of doing it. Personally, I think it would have been better to make it longer and put in more scenes from the manga than they did, but it's still a great story that everyone should watch.
Kanon (TV 2/2006) Masterpiece All I can say is, watch it...now. The story is by the same people who made Air (this was first, Air was made later) and the animators are also the same. Word's can't fully describe this series, it's one that you really just have to watch to understand.
Kyo no Gononi (OAV) Masterpiece
Looking Up At The Half-Moon (TV) Masterpiece Short but very sweet is all I can say about this one. Only 6 episodes, but they get so many emotions across that you can't really claim that it's not a masterpiece. I personally have to say this matches if not beats Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, and the only reason I say it like that is that they're really too different to compare, sure, the endings for both are somewhat happy, yet sad, but that's pretty much the only real comparison between them. that being said, this one needs to be on EVERYONE'S to watch list if they haven't watched it already, same with Kiminozo, but this one definately since it's shorter and more people can get the time to watch it.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (TV) Very good
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's (TV) Excellent Most people will probably agree that this sequel is definately better than the original. In essence, this makes the entire first series seem like an introduction to this one. There's much more action, and very nice fights in this one, while the first one fell a tad short on the action. Seeing the leap from the first one to this one makes me expect good things from StrikerS.
(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV) Masterpiece Top of the list in my top ten. There's simply nothing bad that can be found in this anime. The animation is beautiful and I'll have to hand it to KyoAni for another job very well done.
Otoboku - Maidens Are Falling for Me! (TV) Very good This will probably be one of the lower rated ones in my recommendations list. This one is an interesting story of a guy who looks like his mother being enrolled in an all female school, according to his grandfather's will. Later you find out that the room he has was his mother's room, as well as several other things. However, he must keep his gender a secret, or serious repercussions might occur. When he enters the school, only three people know he's a male, the Headmistress, his Homeroom teacher, and his childhood friend. All in all, this is a good series, and I wish there was more to it than just this, maybe they'll make a second season, but that's up in the air. That being said, the stroyline is what makes it only Very Good, but the way it's told, how everything is carried out, and the seiyuu they choose for the roles are what brings it up drastically.
Rumbling Hearts (TV) Masterpiece One of the biggest deja-vu trips I've ever had, actually looked to see if I watched this before cause I remembered seeing some scenes that looked exactly like this, hopefully I'm not going insane, maybe I have esp.
School Rumble (TV) Masterpiece Comedy gold. This series and Ni Gakki are two very great comedic pieces that, in my opinion, not only rival Azumanga Daioh, but beats its socks off. Sure, some of the randomness in this series might not be for some people, but this series isn't JUST comedy either.
School Rumble: 2nd Semester (TV) Excellent A good follow-up to the first season, though some of the jokes felt more forced than in the first season. Still an excellent comedy, but it falls short of being a Masterpiece.
School Rumble: Extra Class (OAV) Excellent
Shuffle! (TV) Masterpiece Another one of those animes that I wonder why I like so much, maybe because the VA for Rin (same person that does Kyon in Haruhi) just fits the part so well, maybe it's just the storyline, but either way you look at it, it's a VERY good series to watch, and is one of the few I've watched twice consecutively and more than 4 times in total, and working on a fifth time at that.
Ultra Maniac (TV) Excellent
When They Cry - Higurashi (TV) Masterpiece If you thought Elfen Lied was disturbing, you are dead wrong. Compared to this, Elfen Lied is a walk through the park. One tip I have for the average viewer, do not, I repeat, do NOT marathon this over 2 days, you'll have nightmares for a while. At first the way the anime is laid out seems weird, but it all makes since at the last episode. Instead of the usual linear story telling technique, they split it up into chapters, each telling a different story or a different side of it. Of course, you'll understand why in the end.
