Boogiepop Phantom (TV) Excellent An ode to insanity, depression, and memories past.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (TV) Very good The story is great, and just the sheer number of characters this show introduces with little to none of them cannon fodder is astounding. There are good people on both sides of the conflict, so it gives the war a much more realistic feel to it. Light...I mean um Lelouch is pretty flawed, but I think that makes him very interesting and human.
Cowboy Bebop (TV) Excellent Cool, there's no other way to describe it. This show is the embodiment of cool. From the awesome soundtrack to laid-back manner of all the characters.
Death Note (TV) Excellent Perfect cat and mouse story, with tons of insanity and dark atmosphere thrown in for good measure.
Elfen Lied (TV) Excellent Best action-drama-comedy-horror-romance-harem-sci fi-character study on the market. What's even more amazing is that it does all of those genres incredibly well. Especially the drama and the romance, both of which made me get a little watery by the end. Also, the renaissance chanting, Gustav Klimt laden intro is TOO beautiful.
FLCL (OAV) Excellent Deprive your writers of sleep for a week, then give them tons of sugar and get them high. What do you get? Why one of the strangest, most scatterbrained, gut-bustingly funny anime of all time, of course!
Fruits Basket (TV 1/2001) So-so Fruits Basket Drinking Game: Every time Tohru says sorry, take a drink. Every time Tohru loses her eye pupils in surprise, take a drink. You'll be completely sloshed by the end of one episode. It's OK, though. The characters speak so slowly that I think they're a little drunk too.
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV) Decent You don't need me to comment. if you're on this website, you've already seen FMA, made up your own mind about it, and written a comment yourself.
Gad Guard (TV) Not really good The art is just so flashy and creative that I really wanted to like this series, but alas, after one or two episodes you've seen it all before.
(The) Galaxy Railways (TV) Bad Mix the most generic science fiction story you've ever read with Top Gun...and space-trains. Sound interesting? I didn't think so.
.hack//Legend of the Twilight (TV) Decent Eh, lighthearted comedy. It's fun
.hack//SIGN (TV) Excellent Brilliantly written CHARACTER AND DIALOGUE BASED storyline with a fantasy setting as a backdrop (people who want another generic action-fantasy-"OMG save the world with my special attack!" anime can find something else to watch, god knows there's enough of that) with lovely art and wonderful music (only anime soundtrack I've ever bought. Yuki Kajiura did a marvelous job).
Inuyasha (TV) Weak I'm not a 13 year old girl, so maybe I'm just not Inuyasha's target audience, but this is an extremely boring, cliched anime with stupid (there's no other way to describe them) characters that drags on 120 episodes (!!!) longer than it should have.
Last Exile (TV) Excellent Everyone gets their handle from somewhere.
MoonPhase (TV) Decent The art is great, I love Dimitri From Paris' super cute intro, and most of the voice acting (all of the characters except Hazuki) is really good. That said, Hazuki sounds like a really bratty preteen (which she is), which makes the whole romance thing between her and Kouhei (twice her age) have a constant air of creepiness. The comedy is good, the action is fine, but that creepiness is always there.
My Neighbor Totoro (movie) Excellent My grandma bought this on tape for me when I was really little (like 2 or 3). I watched it so many times over the course of my childhood the tape wore out. Perfect family movie.
Negima! (TV) So-so I love Nodoka, she's just such a cute character. I hated every minute of this anime she wasn't on the screen. The loads of fanservice (basically ALL of the humor is derived from pervy gags), the standard harem story with some half-baked magic thrown in, and bland animation just totally ruin it.
Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) Masterpiece On the surface, a very well done mech anime. Dig deeper, and you find a sort of satire of anime in general. The whole harem, mech war, "you're the only one who can save us" style that's been ruling anime for so long is just mindless filler after watching this. Evangelion asks the question "what would being involved in a predicament like that actually do to people?" The answer: a lot.
Pokémon (TV) Decent OK, the stories are bland and the characters are morons, but find me another TV show (forget just anime) that still manages to actually exist, let alone be as wildly successful as this, raking in millions in merchandise a year, after 500 episodes. Watch it just to see the greatest marketing creation of the 20-21st century.
R.O.D -The TV- Good Very, very quirky.
S-CRY-ed (TV) Bad Bad voice acting, hopelessly bland
Samurai Champloo (TV) Very good See Cowboy Bebop.
She and Her Cat (OAV) Excellent It's less than five minutes long and you can easily find it on YouTube. There's is absolutely no reason why any anime fan should not see this. Cute, depressing, and uplifting all at the same time.
