Rhyok's Anime

Seen all (movies)
Castle in the Sky (movie)
Loved it. Rated Excellent.
(The) Cat Returns (movie)
Masterpiece. Fun, fanciful trip and fall through another one of Miyazaki's amazing worlds.
(The) Girl Who Leapt Through Time (movie)
Masterpiece. This is right up there with Spirited Away and Howl's. Great pacing, great characters, great story that unfolds in an excellent way.
Grave of the Fireflies (movie)
Masterpiece. Intensely moving film, which is masterful at capturing the essence of the human emotion with a strong anti-war message presented from a unique perspective. Characterization is excellent. It's a tearjerker, though.
Howl's Moving Castle (movie)
Masterpiece. One of my favorites. Again, I love the worlds Miyazaki creates and this is no exception.
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (movie)
Excellent. Great animation, classic Miyazaki. I do not like that it completely deviated from the manga however (at least the first volume) and I actually found the manga to be a better development of the world. Everything makes a much greater amount of sense in the manga, including how the superweapon works and why the first crash of the ship with the members of the other kingdom was important.
Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (movie)
Excellent. Breathtaking animation, despite the simple style. Loved this movie, but it just feels a little trite and not believable for a coming of age story.
Princess Mononoke (movie)
Excellent, and classic Miyazaki film. Great action, good message.
Spirited Away (movie)
Masterpiece. My (and my family's) introduction to anime. Though the story ends a little sooner than I wanted it to (and you can sense that it does, given the rush in pacing at the end), beautifully animated world which is well-developed with a very relatable main character whose change is believable. I love this film, and all its great emotional moments.
