ShellBullet's Anime

Seen all Rating Comment
Akira (movie) Decent Meh, interesting enough. Maybe not worth the hype that surrounds it though. I have not seen it in a really long time, I should probably see it again to see if I like it better the second time around.
Android Kikaider - The Animation (TV) Good A throwback to a simpler time for anime (visually), this show has alot of good qualities. It spins a good, if perhaps cliche, yarn about the trevails of a humanoid robot trying to live in a human world.
Animation Runner Kuromi (OAV) So-so I was expecting something better given the subject matter and the director. For some reason, the jokes just did not do it for me.
(The) Animatrix (OAV) Good
Banner of the Stars (TV)
Battle Angel (OAV) Decent A bloodfest with heart.
Berserk (TV 1997) Very good Yes, I think I love Berserk. I could go on for hours discussing the merits of this series, instead I will just say that it has great story, characters, and music. The animation is somewhat inferior, but not too bad. I want a second season!
(The) Big O (TV) Good A good philosophical fable. The symbology of the series is mostly straightforward and it's message about the meaning of free will in a predetermined world is also transparent despite the purposeful ambiguities. Yeah, it's also about robots hitting each other - really hard.
Black Jack (OAV) Very good
Blood: The Last Vampire (movie) So-so
Blue Gender (TV) Good
Boogiepop Phantom (TV)
Cardcaptor Sakura (TV) Good
Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie Very good
Castle in the Sky (movie) Excellent
Cat Soup (OAV) How to rate something like this? It is so diferent than most anything else, that I am unable to even compare it with the other shows on this list. Cat Soup is just plain bizarre and disturbing. Perfect for the Salvador Dali fan.
Cowboy Bebop (TV) Masterpiece Superb in every way. This series is one of the most intelligent, stylish, and exciting shows around. Yokko Kano's jazzy soundtrack is a joy to hear and compliments the ambiance of Bebop perfectly.
Cowboy Bebop: The Movie Excellent Killer visuals, masterful soundtrack, and even a decent story; Cowboy Bebop the movie is two hours of anime goodness. Great movie for the Bebop fan. It may not be so great for people who have not seen the series.
Crest of the Stars (TV) Masterpiece This series takes plenty of time to introduce the main characters, but that developement pays off in the second half as the story shifts into high gear. I think it has the coolest ending sequence I have ever seen; Cowboy Bebop included.
Death Note (TV)
Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure (TV) Not really good Not really good, not really bad. It can't decide whether to be a silly EVA parady or a semi-serious Tenchi clone. Oh, and the ending credits is the worst piece of animation I have ever seen.
Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventures Special So-so
Escaflowne: The Movie Good A disappointment copmpared to the original. The animation is fairly nice and the visuals are pretty cool. The story, while significantly differing from the series, might be interesting. It just was too short giving the whole movie a rushed feeling.
Excel Saga (TV) Very good
FLCL (OAV) Not really good Am I the only one less than impressed by this Gainax title? Granted, the show has some awesome music and is pure eye-candy to behold. Still, it played like a glorified preteen fetish show. And by the way, it was not at all hard to understand. The zaniness just barely concealed a pretty straightforward plot.
Fruits Basket (TV 1/2001) Excellent
Geobreeders (OAV) Very good Watching this OVA makes me happy. It is a masterpiece by no means, but it is entertaining and well worth my time.
Ghost in the Shell (movie) So-so
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (movie)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (TV)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG (TV)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society (movie)
Grave of the Fireflies (movie) Masterpiece
Green Legend Ran (OAV) Good
His and Her Circumstances (TV) Good Great series to start out with, but somewhat degenerates by the end. After seeing this one, I decided to never again watch another Anno creation. It is just too frustrating to see a good premise derailed by incompetance and lack of vision.
Infinite Ryvius (TV)
Inuyasha (TV) Excellent
Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade (movie) Decent
Jubei-Chan The Ninja Girl - Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch (TV) Good Pretty good. It has the right mix of drama and comedy to make for a truly entertaining series. Oh, and Jiyu should definately choose Bantaro over that prissy dolt Shiro.
Kai Doh Maru (OAV) Weak
Kikaider-01: The Animation (OAV) Decent
Kiki's Delivery Service (movie) Excellent
Kurogane Communication (TV) Good
L/R: Licensed by Royalty (TV)
Last Exile (TV)
Lily C.A.T. (OAV) So-so
Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (movie) Excellent
Maetel Legend (OAV) So-so
Martian Successor Nadesico (TV) Very good
Mermaid Forest (TV)
Mermaid's Scar (OAV) Very good The first anime I ever saw, this OVA will always hold a special place in my heart. This show is a a total breakaway from Takahashi's usual work. It is decidedly more serious than her other stuff and makes for a good story.
Metropolis (movie) Decent
Millennium Actress (movie) Masterpiece Wow, just wow. If you ever feel tired of the scores of meaningless drivel floating around the anime market, just match this film to restore your faith in the artform we all love. The movie is so good that word's fail me to describe it. The premise is simple, just a look at the life of a once famous but now secluded actress; but this simple premise is crafted with such skill by the great Satoshi Kon that it becomes a masterpiece.
Mobile Suit Gundam (TV) So-so
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket (OAV) Decent
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory (OAV) Decent
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (movie) Decent
My Neighbor Totoro (movie) Very good
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (movie) Masterpiece
Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) Not really good
NieA_7 (TV) Good
Ninja Resurrection (OAV) Worst ever I thought it was impossibe to create a movie worse than Ninja Scroll, boy was I wrong. Only very rarely have I stopped watching an anime before it was finished, this was one of those times.
Ninja Scroll (movie) Awful
Now and Then, Here and There (TV) Very good
Ocean Waves (movie) Very good
Only Yesterday (movie) Very good
Orphen (TV) Good This series started out strong before shifting into low gear, utilizing filler episodes as if they was going out of fashion. It got good again by the time it came back around to telling the story.
Otaku no Video (OAV) Excellent
Outlaw Star (TV) Good
Paranoia Agent (TV)
Patlabor 2: The Movie (movie 2) Decent
Patlabor the Mobile Police (TV)
Patlabor: The Movie (movie 1) Decent
Perfect Blue (movie) Very good This was a very imaginative movie. Like all of Kon's films it takes a a simple premise and does it really well. Slasher movies are not really my thing, so I wouldn't call it a favorite.
Please Save My Earth (OAV) Very good I really enjoyed this series. It has what I would call a winsome charm about it. The only complaint would be the rushed ending.
Pokémon 2000 - The Movie (movie 2) So-so
Pokémon: The First Movie (movie 1) Decent
Pom Poko (movie) Masterpiece OK, maybe other people might not like this movie that much. Perhaps I am just weird for loving this movie, but I can't help it. The environmentalist message is handled in a subtle enough manner that it does not become preachy, which is a good thing. There is so much humanity in this movie about talking tanuki. There is love, failure, and the resiliant will to survive in the face of adverse circumstances, excellent.
Porco Rosso (movie) Very good If this movie was handled by anyone but Miyazaki I am sure it would suck. The concept is just bizarre: wait, you ask, a pig in pre-WW2 Italy? WTF? So, I think the fact that he is a pig is a metaphor for what type of person he is, at least I like to think that the movie has some deeper context. Whatever the case, it still provides an entertaining couple of hours.
Princess Mononoke (movie) Masterpiece With the possible exception of The Royal Space Force this is the most supremely perfect movie ever made. I hear people like John Lasseter saying that Spirited Away is "Miyazaki's masterpiece" and I'm like "didn't you see PM?" Mononoke is his true masterwork. From the breathtaking animation to the deeply human characters to the engrossing plot, this movie is great on so many different levels. Every time I see it I find more to love.
Queen Emeraldas (OAV) So-so
R.O.D -The TV-
Reign: The Conqueror (TV) Not really good This show had such potential. The story of Alexander the Great is a really interesting story, and some of the themes and plot elements were quite intriguing. Still, the series left alot to be desired. The character designs were simply atrocious and the mystical mumbo-jumbo was painful to watch. It is one anime that I would like to see redone by someone who could do it right.
RG Veda (OAV) So-so
Royal Space Force - The Wings of Honnêamise (movie) Masterpiece My other favorite movie. I put off viewing this one for a long time because it didn't seem all that exciting - I was soooo mistaken. This is one movie that you need to pay attention to if you hope to understand everything (multiple viewings help). The story starts out small, and starts building the characters all the time becoming more complex and adding multiple layers of meaning. The drama continues to build up through the conclusion which left me speechless and wanting to see more. The movie does one of the best jobs of world building that I have ever seen. Detail is everywhere, from the weird phones they use to the amazing planes to the bizarre vegas-esque city they inhabit. The world they create is different from Earth, yet uncannily similar. Also, some of the sequences from the movie are classics in their own right. I will never forget the eerie terror of the assasination attempt, or the blissful freedom of Shiro's first flight, and the launch sequence (especially the silent ignition) is one of the most enthralling scenes in any movie, ever.
Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal (OAV) Good
S-CRY-ed (TV) Very good At first this seemed like a simple enough shounen fighting series, with enough flair to be interesting. Starting from it's simple premise it got better and better, throwing in some unexpected plot twists.
Samurai Deeper Kyo (TV) So-so
Serial Experiments Lain (TV) Very good
She, The Ultimate Weapon (TV)
Shinesman (OAV) Weak Some people said this movie was really funny, they were wrong. Every funny moment is fully contained within the preview, everything else is a waste of time.
(The) Slayers (TV) Decent Slayers is a fun series, perhaps there is no deep philosophical implications or searching character profiles, just a wacky story. Just turn your mind off and enjoy!
Slayers - The Motion Picture Good
Spriggan (movie) Very good
Tenchi Forever!: The Movie Very good The best Tenchi movie to date.
Tenchi in Tokyo (TV) Decent
Tenchi Muyo! (OAV 1/1992)
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki (OAV 3/2003)
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki: Final Confrontations (OAV)
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki (OAV 2/1994)
Tenchi the Movie - Tenchi Muyo in Love Decent
Tenchi The Movie 2 - The Daughter of Darkness Decent
Tenchi Universe (TV) Very good
Tokyo Babylon (OAV) Decent
Tokyo Godfathers (movie) Excellent I never know Kon could make a funny movie, but apparently he can. I laughed so hard at this movie. At the same time Tokyo Godfathers is able to provide solid dramatic moments. Like at the end when they are on the roof and...well, just watch it to find out.
Tokyo Underground (TV) Not really good OK, don't expect a masterpiece here, because you won't find it. The end was rushed and anticlimactic.
Trigun (TV) Good
Utawarerumono (TV)
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (movie) Good
(The) Vision of Escaflowne (TV) Masterpiece This was I think the only series that had me completely hooked by the end of the first episode. The good thing is that it only got better as time went on. This is a must see for any fan.
Voices of a Distant Star (OAV) Very good A simple story of lost love, VDS delivers the goods for a short anime film.
Whisper of the Heart (movie) Excellent
You're Under Arrest (TV) Good
Yu Yu Hakusho The Movie: Poltergeist Report (movie 2/1994) Decent Not a bad YuYu adventure.
