A-Channel (TV) Not really good Shows like this is why I started writing comments/reviews. I cant remember why it's rated the way it is or what it's even about.
Angel Beats! (TV) Good This is a pretty interesting story that keeps it card close. It probably scores in the top 3 on best endings of all time. It is a solid entertaining anime with some varied emotional facets.
anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (TV) Not really good This is basically just a romance show with some light trauma. It's not that super interesting or inspiring and the ghost in the story is very illogical. She writes to them that she exists in episode 9. Why didn't she just explain it super early? Honestly this story feels dumb. It was still a pretty touching story at time due to the subjects, but it feels illogical and some of the characters are pretty dislikeable.
Aria the Scarlet Ammo AA (TV) Not really good This show starts pretty okay (disregarding the initial arcade stylish fight scene) and after the first 2 to 3 episodes I was quite interested even if it had some small flaws, but then the show just gradually becomes worse and worse, leading to swimsuit episodes and extreme oversexualiation rather than story and character development. If it wasn't for the stronger start I would never have watched it.
Battle Girls - Time Paradox (TV) Not really good
(The) Beast Player Erin (TV) So-so This anime is really hard to rate. Erin is an amazing main character with great curiosity, wits and empathy and her journey through life is really interesting and the anime is certainly not for kids as it features: Assassination, betrayl by family, lose, execution, war etc. There's some really good charaters in this show and the first half of the show is truly amazing. If the show ended midway I might have rated it significantly higher. There's a lot of flaws in this anime as well: Narrator makes for double intros sometimes, explaining stuff we already know. There is a political story in this anime that I honestly do not care about and felt only drags the show down, I would rather watch Erin lick bark of a tree and commentating on its flavor. The ending is also terrible and completely dissatisfactory. There are also resume and filler episodes. If I ever rewatch this show I'm only going to be watching the first half and skip all the political stuff.
Blue Drop (TV) Bad A good example why Yuri + Alien + Sci-Fi= Bad anime. First and foremost, human aliens is fucking lazy. The anime feels like two separate stories tied together, the aliens aren't smart enough to wear proper clothes. There's not enough character or relationship development and over all the story feels like a complete mess. Inadvertently the anime is quite intriguing for a couple of episodes because it's impossible to understand what is going on.
Cardcaptor Sakura (TV) Good This is a pretty fun and long show with some interesting developments and an okay story. It's pretty decent and worth a watch.
Cardcaptor Sakura The Movie 2: The Sealed Card Good It has a sligtly different feel than the show, focusing a bit on the romance and tagging a plot onto it at the end. I think I prefered the regular show, but this is not bad.
Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card (TV) Very good This show is currently not recommended, it has a cliffhanger ending. Don't watch it before the next season or movie is out unless you are okay with being left hanging! Now onto the actual review: This show is just like the original season of Sakura Cardcaptor except it's improved in every possible way! I might rate this one higher in the future depending on how it plays out in the next season! Anyway, the characters are great, good new introductions as well as good reintroduction of old faces. Lots of cool magic, cards and story! There is character development, action, love, you name it! There's even some dark themes once in a while, be advised! 木之元さくらは凄すぎますぞ!
Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Prologue (OAV) Very good
Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie Good A lot like the show, has a decent story and if you like the show it's an easy watch recommendation.
A Certain Scientific Railgun (TV) Very good A very enjoyable and entertaining show with a very strong group dynamic, fun moments and a cool plot! Honestly there is very little detracting from this show. I would rate it higher, but no particularly memorable moments stand out to me that I would go back or watch. However this anime is certainly strong so if you have any interest in magic or group dynamics it's a hit. I can definitely recommend it. OBS: This series is labelled as Science-Fiction but it doesn't indulge in science fiction nonsense fortunately.
A Certain Scientific Railgun S (TV) Not really good This season is significantly worse than season 1 both due to having two similar main plots, but also because the group dynamic takes a backseat in favour of focusing the story on a single person. There is an attempt at a love story that isn't that great and there are also quite a few loose ends that are not satisfactory so this season is rather disappointing. The overall franchise is still good, but this does make me question if I want a season 3 which is unfortunate.
Charlotte (TV 2015) Not really good High production value, but I honestly don't like the main character at the start and the hardcore nature of the later episodes is a bit much. I prefer the middle section which I honestly felt was good. Overall I can't recommend the anime, but it's not unwatchable. It has some good elements and characters and a good concept though.
Chivalry of a Failed Knight (TV) Not really good So this show has some pretty substantial flaws. At first it creates what appears to be an interesting story line, then it quickly jumps and makes it seem like it's going to be a hentai love triangle show, but soon enough we are back on track with the story. The protagonist also quickly chooses his maiden of choice so one can wonder why they even bothered with this dynamic in the first place. I can't really recommend it even though I sort of enjoyed.
Comic Girls (TV) So-so
(The) Demon Girl Next Door (TV) Good A consistent and fun show where the inhabitants are used to quite a bit of the unusual. It has characters that develop and a completely useless protagonist that gets better over time. In general I think the story telling is quite good, but the ending does not fully resolve everything (season 2 will I hope)
Denpa teki na Kanojo (OAV) Good Mystery and intrigue combined with interesting characters and some good horror and psychological horror elements make an excellent story. Each episode is like a mini movie. A solid recommendation.
Dusk maiden of Amnesia (TV) Weak The animations is of high quality and although amnesia is a very overused plot point in anime it does have an unusual spin on it in this series. The start and introduction is quite strong however the ending feels quite forced and is honestly rather inconsistent(bad). The anime focuses a bit too much on showing off pretty girls for my liking which is unfortunate. Overall the anime can be recommended as an unusual supplement but it is not something I can recommend for you to actively go out of your way to watch.
ef: a tale of memories (TV) Not really good A very different show with a none intuitive story. It's a very special experience that isn't easy to compare to anything. I can't recommend it for everyone, but it is certainly unique and a psychologically intense experience that is worthy of being mentioned. Good character development, lines and believable human behavior.
ERASED (TV) So-so It was interesting, except even someone as dense as me knew the culprit before it was revealed. It's a shame as the animation and pacing are pretty good, but the fact that it feels like a mystery without a mystery sort of ruins this anime. Still it can be recommended as a one time watch. (But I will probably not rewatch it).
(The) Familiar of Zero (TV) Seen so long ago that only a rumour of it being an okay anime exists to this day.
(The) Familiar of Zero F (TV) Seen so long ago that only a rumour of it being an okay anime exists to this day.
(The) Familiar of Zero: Knight of the Twin Moons (TV) Seen so long ago that only a rumour of it being an okay anime exists to this day.
(The) Familiar of Zero: Rondo of Princesses (TV) Seen so long ago that only a rumour of it being an okay anime exists to this day.
Flying Witch (TV) So-so This show is pretty and relaxing but while there are some interesting characters and creatures, there's a slight lack of witching in this series. The main character needed to more magic.
Full Moon o Sagashite (TV) Not really good This anime has some amazing moments and some really annoying parts. All in all it's very inconsistent. Some moments I more or less skipped while others were in the 8-9/10 range. This anime could have been amazing but left quite a few things to be desired. Not quite what I would call a solid anime but it's definitely not bad! It also had an amazing ending.
GJ Club (TV) So-so Despite being a reverse harem show, there's nothing reverse about its quality. The crossdressing elements help make this slightly more interesting and there are some decent jokes here and there. I wouldn't recommend it at all, especially the ending feels quite cliche.
Gosick (TV) Decent This show has a good tsundere character as one of its double lead which is quite impressive. The male part of the dual lead is very relatable, not dumb and overall well executed which is a pleasant surprise! The story introduces a love triangle at some point in the story, but does so surprisingly well, portraying it in a way that is not over the top or under appreciate it at the same, while keeping the balance of all the characters in focus. The main problem with this anime is that there are too many cases. It feels like the character are always super busy and I as a viewer feel I can't catch a break. There's too little time for character and relationship development in this show which is a real shame. We don't even get to see the ending for one of the main side characters and the love triangle is never resolved properly. I feel like a case should have been dropped, maybe even two, to make room for character and relationship development or just anything different from the barrage of cases that needs to be solved.
Gunslinger Girl (TV) Very good This show plays on a broad emotional spectrum very well. I will say that you may prefer season 1 or 2 significantly based on your preferences as they are quite different. Personally season 1 was for me. The show is very interesting and gripping, but I don't want to spoil it so go watch it.
Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino (TV) So-so This is much worse than season 1 and is honestly something you can skip. It's okay but nowhere near the breathtaking quality of season 1. It has some odd focuses.
Gurren Lagann the Movie – The Lights in the Sky Are Stars Bad Maybe I just hate this show because I was forced to watch it but seriously.... it's one of those power comes from emotions animes that immediately make it not even worth bothering with, can not recommend.
Gurren Lagann the Movie –Childhood's End- Bad
Haibane Renmei (TV) So-so It's worth a watch but focused a bit too much on the plot instead of the tranquil and interesting setting for my liking which is a shame.
Hanasaku Iroha - Blossoms for Tomorrow (TV) Not really good This anime had a too harsh start for my liking. The first 6 episodes didn't leave me impressed but it gets better after that. Overall I think the anime is pretty good, with nice voice acting and a simple but decent plot. I think this anime honestly just didn't cater to my tastes very much. I can see why some people would rate it high though as the characters are well developed and the setting is nice. The story is also rather realistic.
Happy Sugar Life (TV) Excellent A great story about the desire of wanting to feel... Satou (;O;) Not for the feint of heart or spirit.
Hello!! KINMOZA (TV) Not really good This is one of the rare times that season 2 is better than season 1, this show is great for destressing but can also be seen on its own terms as it has slightly more plot and substance. It can probably be seen without season 1 if one desires.
High School Fleet (TV) Decent This show is pretty cool and goes from 2 to 100 really fast, but when it's all said and done a few things are missing here. There is character development and a unfortunately a rather unbelievable plot. There is some amount of suspense and tension in the beginning, but the ending feels a bit subpar. There are also no casualties or anything so there are a lot of issues with this anime.
HYOUKA (TV) So-so A show with a male lead that isn't straight up hentai disguised? Well this is certainly the exception to the rule. This show is quite interesting, even if the start does make it seem slightly horror related (it's not). I quite enjoyed watching it and may improve the rating to good in the future. It has some nice story telling and handles the mixture of mystery and slice of life well. One of the problems is that Chitanda is never explored, like, she has senses of a beast but is supposed to be the smartest student. Yet she is a complete airhead? It just seems weird and peculiar. I felt disappointed that Oreki never bothered to investigate her at all. If she wasn't supernatural, then the anime gave a very wrong impression of her abilities. I think it's a bit hard to recommend because it combines slice of life with mystery which is a little... unusual? I must say I also enjoyed the smaller cases a lot more than the longer stretched out ones. I almost wished it was just 22 small cases straight up.
Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san (TV) Not really good Burst show. This show has a lot of comedy elements and a lot of sexualisation, but since it's so short and exaggerated I found it rather hilarious, your mileage may vary depending on if you like yuri, comedy and slice of life.
Is the order a rabbit? (TV) Not really good Great for relaxing after a really long and stressful day. As to be expected of a show in this genre the plot(s) if one can call them that are very minimalistic which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I feel this show is okay but nothing more than that. The characters are entertaining and it does have it fair share of fun moments so it's definitely watchable. It's hard for me to recommend it as a show to go out of your way to watch though as it doesn't have any noticeable strengths.
Is the order a rabbit?? (TV 2) Not really good
K-ON! (TV) Very good This is probably the best show about amateur go fun musicians made. It has very compelling characters, a good and simple story and yet somehow is written well enough that it is a captivating and cute experience. This one is a safe recommendation to anyone that likes slice of life shows. Did I say this show is really good?? It is so cute and gets the emotional interplay just right. If I had any grief with the show it was that Yui and Azunyan didn't get an official ship. I also didn't like episode 18 and 19 so much in season 2, because I felt that Mio should just quit.
K-ON! (movie) Very good
K-ON!! (TV 2) Very good
Kämpfer (TV) Not really good Seen quite a long time ago. Might be a rating lower or higher.
Kämpfer für die Liebe (special) Not really good Seen quite a long time ago. Might be a rating lower or higher.
Kase-san and Morning Glories (OAV) Good A great anime movie for all yuri lovers. It's cute, has kisses and hand holding. ❤.❤ It's an interpersonal drama in the slice of life realm. Good and very simple romance story.
Kasimasi - Girl Meets Girl (TV) Weak This is a very inconsistent anime with some fun and philosophical parts but over all it's not the best. It tries to handle certain things realistically and other it treats in a rather pragmatic way such as aliens. The same annoying music is played too much and some emotional things are handled well and others poorly. The anime is also a little bit too sexist for my taste. I'm not a fan of this show personally, but it's certainly not the worst.
Kinmoza! Kiniro + Mosaic (TV) So-so It's a pretty alright slice of life anime. I think it is quite good for language learners, but I would not recommend it unless you are into slice of life or are using it to study the language.
Kobato. (TV) Good A low action story with an extremely well thought out if not overly complicated plot with interesting characters, just the right amount of humor and writing that will make you cry tears of despair and joy. This show is a must watch if you have a soul, care about character development and don't mind the low amount of action.
Koihime Musō (TV) Not really good
Laid-Back Camp (TV) Decent This show is very relaxing and low action. I think it is best viewed when stressed, or during dinner (because there's delicious food int it). The narrative is simple as is the plot, so it's not great for binge watching. I can also recommend it when sick.
Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! (TV) Weak The anime is nicely animated and have some believable characters. My main problem with this show is that the humour is often pretty hit or miss. It is an extremely cringe inducing show, to such a level that it ruins the show and causes physical discomfort in the viewer. As a result I had to skip parts of certain episodes. I also think the story is slightly too cliche (it fits the good old formula). If the show had less cringe and maybe an extra male character or more side character development I would be all for it, alas this show is a miss for me unfortunately.
Magic of Stella (TV) Not really good If anyone ever asked you "What would a show be like that is functional but nothing else." then this show is probably it. It doesn't have any huge flaws per say, but it's just so... bland. I think it's honestly a bit too boring and focuses on yuri in some overdramatized ways. I'm pretty sure I will forget about this show in a week or two. Maybe save this show for sometime when you are sick?
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (TV) Excellent The Nanoha series (excluding season 4) is incredible! Interesting characters, plot and settings. Interesting magical abilities, good writing, slow and fast paced moments with appropriate build up. The anime is solid in all respects although I really wish they would make the relationship everyone know is there a reality. The way the anime goes through Nanoha's life from an early age to mature adult let us see her evolve from a scared uncertain girl to a bad ass and damn is this anime just amazing! I could go on and on about it so I better stop now.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's (TV) Excellent
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS (TV) Good This season is not good on its own and marks the decline from greatness to mediocrity. Little did we know that season 4 would completely destroy this franchise, alas this review is about season 3, strikers. Basically this anime has some of the good story elements and characters from the original seasons, but then changes the theme to be about a military like structured entity with elements of political power play which is quite interesting. The main problem for me in this show is that the fights towards the end are quite mishandled. Making them cringe inducing while provoking second hand embarassement. Other than that this show is quite interesting and bold, introducing something that feels completely new. I can understand why some people hate it. It's basically completely different. It's not inherently bad (outside of the terrible fights at the end) but it's different. Fortunately with the new remade movies it seems like the show is getting back on track!
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st Excellent This is a lot like season 1 with some new inclusion and exclusions, I think it did a good job on expanding the lore regarding Fate's mother and made her seem more humane. I would still recommend the show over the movie for first time viewers but if you have already seen the series the movie is a sweet treat.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha the Movie 2nd A's Excellent This movie is quite different from the series and it's just as fantastic. Why are you reading? Go watch it, now! :D
Magical Girl Raising Project (TV) Good I feel this show could have benefited from more episodes to get a bit more character development in and to allow for more bounding. That said there is some cool and very mature themes in this show and the fanservice is rather minimalistic and more importantly the costumes are thematic. The season ends rather open ended, so a season 2 is probably on the cards.
Maria Watches Over Us (TV) Very good The best high school drama in a realistic setting hand's down. The writing and character development are superb! The atmosphere is fantastic! There's no real action but yet the story continues to be interesting and gripping. If you don't mind slower anime's with character development a good story but little action this is a must watch!!! If you don't like slower shows where the world isn't experiencing a crisis and the main characters have parent's it's safe to ignore this show. This show is truly fantastic and captures the drama and feeling of it's characters excellently. My main complaint is that there is no season 5, which seems like it was desperately needed after the sudden end of season 4. This with some minor nitpicks such as a lack of romantic content and kisses is what in my opinion keeps the story very good rather than excellent.
Maria Watches Over Us 3rd Season (OAV) Very good
Maria Watches Over Us 4th Season (TV) Very good
Maria Watches Over Us Season 2: Printemps (TV) Very good
Mikagura School Suite (TV) Not really good This shows first half is rather sub-par, the fights aren't very good or even consistent. Honestly it feels like it would be better if they just removed the whole fight thing and it is funnily enough even skipped most of the time. The second half is quite solid and is interesting enough that it is worth watching. If they had made the entire season like this with more focus on the emotional and psychological aspects it could have been good. I'm rating this anime so-so because it doesn't live up to for instance survival game club, but the show can be worth a watch if you are into the genres. Just note that the first half is quite different from the second half.
Momokuri (ONA) Not really good This show is very cute and that's the most of it. The writting is okay, but my main gripe with this show is the clinical relationship, no kiss, can barely hold hands yet the show is 26 episodes long. They are in a relationship over a year and they take care of each other when sick, but a kiss? No, that's impossible. Seriously. It is very disturbing and unsettling to have this huge disparity between their emotional and physical connection. It feels like it's the coma dream of an 8 year old.
My-HiME (TV) Not really good
My-Otome (TV) Decent This show is a bit of a mix of slice of life and action. It has decent characters and an okay idea behind it. I feel some of the things that drag the show down is some of the lackluster fights, also while the show is related to my-hime the relationship is a bit over the top and does not help the show. It's a solid decent and honestly would be higher be rated good if there weren't too many references to other series. The ending takes this to a new level unfortunately. The relationship between Nina Wang and Major Wang is good though and was handled quite maturely.
My-Otome 0~S.ifr~ (OAV) So-so
My-Otome Zwei (OAV) Decent
Netsuzou Trap -NTR- (TV) Not really good Good to have a show with some actual kisses, with that said there is too much 18+ content in this show for my personal liking, I think they needed to chill a little bit or maybe it simply feels this way because the show is only 10 minutes per epsiode. Anyway, this show is pretty damn cool, it's like a normal drama about love and friendship but in anime. If this had been a regular 25 minute per episode show I'm pretty sure it would have gotten a cult following. (Maybe it has?)
New Game! (TV) Good This show is fun and relaxing and also very pretty. It scores a good rating mostly due to a lack of minuses combined with these pluses. I will say the fanservice is slightly too much at times which is unfortunate and I might be "Decent" due to that.
New Game!! (TV 2) Good This show has a bit too much of ecchi content for my personal liking, particular in episode 1 however there are also plenty of good bits and traces of the good old solid formula. I think season 1 is definitely better than season 2 by a solid margin so consider season 2 rated as So-So for all intents and purposes.
No Game, No Life (TV) Excellent Avoid at all cost. Do not continue reading. STOP! This show is fucking hilarious. It makes fun of anime and games while subsequently beating them all at their own game and laughing in their face. It is a fantastic experience of profound magnitude for those acquainted with such dark arts however as there are no season 2 in a show that desperately needed one you should avoid it. You have been warned!!!
Non Non Biyori (TV) Decent
Non Non Biyori Repeat (TV 2) Decent This series is pretty damn relaxing and never the less well written. Beautiful backgrounds as well. Season 2 is called repeat for a reason, very samy and I think it deserves a lower rating than season 1. It's too much of the same stuff. They needed to add more content. Given the same rating for convenience.
Orange (TV) Weak The plot had the potential to be interesting, but instead we have high schoolers solving advanced physics with no effort for plot convenience, R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D.
Oreimo (TV) Not really good You might be tempted to leave within the first 2 minutes with good reason. The show has some reasonable good characters and a reasonable development, it has a good mix of comedy elements and writing as well. Unlike normal harem shows the main character is very laid back and actually seems like a half decent guy and the story doesn't just revolve around him but the great characters with him. Unfortunately it still has quite terrible ecchi elements and some very questionable camera angles from time to time, but over all I think it's much less horrendous than other similar shows. Over all I can't say I loved it as the ending was a bit meh and it had too much bullshit ecchi content that I could do without but the overall story was actually pretty decent. I would recommend it if you like harem shows and otherwise give it a pass. If you are forced to write a harem show's script maybe this can give you some inspiration.
Ouran High School Host Club (TV) So-so Hard to rate. Some episodes were pretty decent, some were okay, others were rather subpar, in particular the last episode. I think this show is not so great because it doesn't seem to know what it wants to do.Sometimes it's all about flirting, other episodes are about comedy and whacky stuff. I feel the writing needed to be better. Also the backstories shouldn't be the last few episodes, that's not sensible, they also didn't seem that great on average. I think this show has some flaws and outside of theme of cross dressing and whacky comedy (that sometimes seems to be mis-executed) it doesnt have much going for it.
Place to Place (TV) Not really good The animations are of high quality and there are some moments of fun, but the show ends abruptly and the romance never begins to reach a critical mass which is unfortunate.
planetarian (ONA) Not really good The plot could have worked but it isn't executed well, neither is the combat. The end result is predictable already in the first episode because the protagonist acts in a none sensible matter. Maybe worth watching if you need to kill an afternoon as there are only 5 episodes.
Princess Princess (TV) Not really good This show is pretty interesting because it's so unique. It's pretty fun and unconventional but I won't go into details.
Princess Principal (TV) Masterpiece Great art, great story, interesting characters, good music, great pacing, lots of content, good humor and character development. This one is a genre defining masterpiece. 10/10
Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings Excellent This anime is one of the best ones I have ever watched! The story is amazing, complicated and extremely interesting. If you don't like thinking this anime is not for you!! The characters are interesting and mature as the story goes along, some change a lot others not so much. This anime has some very incredible scenes that I sometime go back to watch just because the quality and the emotions evoked are sky high. The writing and voice acting is spot on and the plot is so good that it could bring people back to life! I can't explain how good this anime is, but it's amazing! This movie trilogy is a genre defining master piece.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2: Eternal Excellent
Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion Excellent
Red Data Girl (TV) Not really good I really want to rate this show as decent, but this anime falls quite short of a few others such as survival game club. The story is well animated, but not very well told. You are often left confused about what's going on and what just happened. There's a lot of people involved and it feels like the plot isn't even entirely clear all of the time. It also right from the start made it clear who Izumiko was going to hook up with which made it rather anticlimatic to watch the relationship unfold. Overall the anime was ok but the confusing story makes it lower rated in my book. I was also quite disappointed as I was hoping for an interesting hate-ship between Izumiko and Miyuki as they are forced to work together yet don't want to. Instead they opted for the boring love route. It's not terrible, but that's not a huge compliment.
Riddle Story of Devil (TV) Good They had a lot of interesting very interesting characters, a cool plot and setting but the series is way too rushed. We learn very little about any of the characters which is a real shame. If this show had more background story and more time it could have been an 7-8/10 but it seems they were to worried about fitting the whole thing into 1 season. The ending is also garbage, but cutting the last 5 minutes saves the show from disgrace. This is also one of those yuri trap shows where one of the girls is just a boy with an extra hole... stop it!
Saki (TV) Weak If they developed the character relationships this could have been in the [so-so ; very good] range depending on how well they pulled it off. Unfortunately they never even try to do it so the show falls extremely short on that account and unfortunately they just keep pulling your leg and it's fucking frustrating. Don't bother! It doesn't have any other particular strengths.
Sands of Destruction (TV) Not really good This is definitely okay to watch, it has some interesting moments and unusual characters. Following the bad guys is also a very cool spin on things but ultimately the ending is what kicks this down to so-so. I won't spoil it but man oh man, seriously.... come on guys. This reminds me of Akuma no riddle's ending. Stop with the hollywood shit!
Sasameki Koto (TV) Weak Really like how there are actual kisses in this yuri show. Gasp! How terrifying! Unfortunately that doesn't save the show. There's no action here and that's not a bad thing but the writing and voice acting just isn't good enough to make for a compelling and gripping story. There's too much nonsensical girl drama and not of the good kind. The most interesting character isn't even the intended main character but the cross-dresser actually. It's not a terrible show but it feels like a much inferior maria watches over us. The show also doesn't seem to know if it's a comedy or a drama. A mixture of these can be fine but it's not executed well here. The romantic relationships, if one can call them that, also seem rather superficial. There's nothing wrong about having a relationship deepen overtime in a show and see how it slowly develops into a purer form of love but here that doesn't happen.
School-Live! (TV) Decent This show is best described as an interesting mix of well known genres. It's a little bit unusual and certainly by no means the most realistic survival story, yet it is quite entertaining to watch due to a mixture of unexpectedness and funny lines. It has a few mysteries that also ensures that it doesn't become to stale. There is occasionally a bit too much fanservice but overall it is moderated well. My other gripe is that it's not yuri, sniff sniff.
Selector Infected Wixoss (TV) So-so This show is quite hard to rate. It starts strong and has a reasonable narrative and development for half of the first season. It seems like it's going to be PMMM, the card game but instead as the story continues you realize that's not going to be the case at all. By season 2 you might still be interested in the mystery, but there is too much melo drama and no real consequences. No one dies, everyone ends up happy and the story gets drawn out, boring!! It's surprising they went for this hollywood bullshit approach considering the start of season 1. The movie is 90% recap but you can fortunately skip most of it s a consequence.
Selector Spread Wixoss (TV) So-so
Shin Koihime Musō (TV) Not really good
Shin Koihime Musō: Otome Tairan (TV) Not really good
Shōnen Maid (TV) Decent While this show has the very occasional odd undertone, the over all story is quite relaxing, add a few jokes here and there and this show is worth watching, especially if you just need to relax after a long day at work.
A Silent Voice (movie) Good This movie has some really good psychological elements and a good story telling. I think I can easily recommend it. It didn't wow me but was a good fulfilling viewing experience, so I have rated it good. I feel the ending was a bit too sudden. Would have liked some sort of epilogue or some more story to see how things went afterwards. At least just until the dust settles a bit.
Sound of the Sky (TV) Not really good Mix the consequences of war with a dying world, cute characters with secrets and finally an interesting story that has been compressed too much and you get Sound of the Sky. It is a very mixed bag with a lot of different elements but an interesting underlying story, although it feels like this anime should have been expanded to 24 or 36 episodes rather than 12 as quite a few things feel rushed in the narrative. For instance Nöel's background story could easily have been the topic of an entire episode or two. A beautiful book can hide dark things.
Spice and Wolf (TV) Good
Spice and Wolf II (TV) Good Could arguably be on the very good list. This series has a lot of amazing stuff going for it. Interesting characters, plots, settings and much more. Honestly it is such a cool show even if following the trading schemes can be hard. That said holo sometimes is causing a slightly unreasonable amount of trouble. This show has a very unsatisfying ending (in the sense that the last couple of seasons have never been made).
Strawberry Eggs (TV) Not really good
Strawberry Panic! (TV) Good Quite good! Definitely a proper yuri shows with good focus on the emotional aspect with slight intrigue and power struggles thrown in. It's solid, even a bit above it. A pretty flower on the field, but no pearl alas.
Survival Game Club! (TV) Decent A show that is extremely anti serious but rather fun but most of all extremely eccentric! Definitely worth a watch if you want some ridiculous lighthearted fun. It has reasonably interesting characters and is pretty solid over all.
Sweet Blue Flowers (TV) Decent Nicely animated show with reasonable characters and plots that are reasonably believeable and interesting to observe. The show is the definition of a good anime, its individual pieces are good and it's quite enjoyable to watch, but it never rises to become something extraordinary, still, this is an easy recommendation for shoujo ai fans out there. The story seems stronger at the start than at the end, still I definitely want a sequel!
This Art Club Has a Problem! (TV) So-so It's a romantic comedy with no advancement at all in the romance department and on the rare occasion it is too ecchi however it has quite decent writing and the main characters seem very solid. It is nice to have a laid back male character and it has some decent comedy elements. It is also a definite plus that it is not a harem show which it might appear like at first. I can recommend it as a dinner show, but probably not as something more than that.
Three Leaves, Three Colors (TV) Decent A fun show with characters with multiple facets. I think the writing could have been stronger at times, however over all the show is entertaining and drawn well. I can safely say I enjoyed it and hope for a second season.
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (OAV) Very good
Violet Evergarden (TV) Decent This anime starts very excellently with a griping story and has strong character development throughout its duration. It has a fine setting and good mini stories that fit the episode or two episodes per story format and overall has likeable characters. I feel though that there are several things that hold this show back. First and foremost everytime there is a battle the battle seems incredible unrealistic to the point it's cringeworthy. She's just charging ahead, not taking any care at all over and over and then at the end of the show she doesn't want to kill people who are trying to ruin the country?? There's also not a good explanation of how she becomes accepted into the military in the first place or how she became a tool/killing machine. Surely she wasn't trained to be a killer as a child from the get go right? So someone trained her, but there's no women in the army at all so why? How? I don't understand the story. I also don't understand the plot about the faction wanting to start a war again. How are you going to start a war between the nations when no one wants to fight in either of the countries? The war setting is good but everything related to it is badly executed. Also bombs on a bridge, really, did no one see that coming??
Wandering Witch - The Journey of Elaina (TV) Good This shows follows a girl who wishes to become a witch when she gets older. All in all I think the story is quite well executed. It has a lot of human facets which is unusual for this type of story. I think it is quite easy to recommend this for anyone interesting in the magical girl genre.
Welcome to the NHK (TV) This was one of the first animes I ever watched before I even know what anime was. I remember it was quite good, but I have no idea what rating to give it. I should rewatch it at some point.
Yuki Yuna Is a Hero (TV) Weak Amnesia, dead parents, over-sexualization and other cliches? Check! This anime doesn't bring much to the table and I feel there is not enough time to get emotionally involved with the characters. It feels like a cheap rip off of PMMM which is unfortunate. I think they should have betted more on the go happy stuff at the start and changed some other things around. Unfortunately this anime falls awfully short in my eyes.
Yuki Yuna Is a Hero: The Washio Sumi Chapter (TV) So-so This is a lot better than the original first season and is actually watchable. However not much is learned in this show and therefore I think it does not end up being that interesting. It is hard to get interested in the random battles, when so little is explained. Just like the first season some transformation are dubious in the later episodes, but at least on average they are much better.
Yuruyuri - Happy Go Lily (TV) This was one of the first anime I watched when I was just a teen. At that time I thought it was hilarious, but honestly it's just sort of a yuri rom com with some humour and the occasional ecchi element.
Yuruyuri - Happy Go Lily (TV2)
Yuruyuri Nachu Yachumi!+ (TV)
Yuruyuri San Hai! (TV 3)
Yuyushiki (TV) So-so It's pretty funny at times and the characters are quite relaxing to observe, but there is no development here of the characters relationship in any significant fashion which is a shame. If there was even a slight bit of development or some sort of overarching plot or point to the story that would have gone a long way.
