meiling's Anime

Seen all Rating
Blue Submarine No.6 (OAV) Very good
Gorgeous. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. I know a lot of people complain about the animation, but I love it. Pretty fun story, too.
Cardcaptor Sakura (TV) Masterpiece
My absolute favorite anime. CLAMP took the magical girl genre's lunch money and made it cry. Character development, fantastic animation, great music, multiple equally interesting sub-plots and side stories, pretty much everything that all the other magical girl stories out there never thought were particularly necessary. The only weakness I can think of is that of 99.9999% of anime out there - the re-use of particular themes for particular goings-on onscreen.
Cardcaptor Sakura The Movie 2: The Sealed Card Masterpiece
A beautiful ending to a beautiful series. The first time I watched this I was very worried, because it seemed to be leading towards an extremely cheesy ending, but it actually pulled it off. Very satisfying.
Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie Masterpiece
Very beautiful movie, some of the best music of the series/movies, and an entertaining sidestory with a bit of extra background information thrown in.
Castle in the Sky (movie) Excellent
Do I use the word beautiful a lot? Yes. That's one of my favorite things about good anime - how beautiful it can look. This one, naturally, does a great job of that, plus has a very fun story.
Cool Devices (OAV) Weak
Weird. Very, very weird. Some episodes are much worse than others.
Cowboy Bebop (TV) Excellent
Very cool series. A must-watch for absolutely anyone, no matter what genre they're into.
DNA² (TV) Not really good
Meh. Started out interesting, petered out into boring.
Dragon Half (OAV) Excellent
One of the funniest things out there. What a tragedy that it only got one episode.
Elf Princess Rane (OAV) Very good
Wacky. Only one episode longer than Dragon Half, it was nearly as funny.
Fruits Basket (TV 1/2001) Good
Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic anime. Wonderful characters. And the last episode stank monkey butt. Don't watch it. Just watch up to the second to last episode, then forget there ever WAS a last episode.
Full Metal Panic! (TV) Excellent
Fantastic. Saw the second season before this and had to steel myself not to expect the same humor, but once I got past it the drama of the first series was really great.
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (TV) Excellent
So funny, I had to pause from time to time just to catch my breath. The second season threw out the drama and concentrated on the insanity that could ensue from having a seasoned war professional with an itchy trigger finger in a mundane setting. The origin of the "fumoffu" in the title was a stroke of genius. Possibly several strokes.
Fushigi Yugi (TV) Good
Another anime with a great beginning and a shit ending. Minor spoilers follow: The main relationship in this story does not help, and the insipid repeated cries of each other's names made me want to claw my eardrums to shreds out of sheer mercy, but the main issue I had with this is that -every- -goddamn- -person- that Miaka came into contact just had to fall madly head over heels in love with her. She and her best friend are equally annoying in their self-centeredness, and watching multiple what-seemed-like-sensible heads go all muddled around one of them just ruins the show. (/mild spoilers) Too bad, because other than that, this is one of the best action/drama/comedies I've ever seen.
Ghost in the Shell (movie) Not really good
I know many will hate and/or despise me for this, but: boring. Overrated.
Girl from Phantasia (OAV) Decent
Silly. Cute. Kind of pointless to have just one episode, but it probably wouldn't have gone anywhere anyway.
Jungle de Ikou! (OAV) Very good
For those who like their humor EXTREMELY weird only. Loved every minute of this. Three episodes wasn't enough.
Kai Doh Maru (OAV) Awful
Anime news' plot summary actually told me more about this anime than watching it did. Perhaps it was, once again, a bad sub job (professional - I rented it from a local video store), but I suspect it really is that disjointed and hard to follow. Oh, right, and add onto all that a crap ending.
Kiki's Delivery Service (movie) Excellent
Adorable movie. Does as much for magical girls as CCS, in a completely different way.
Kill Bill Chapter 3: The Origin of O-Ren (movie segment) Excellent
I have no idea why this is in amongst a list of anime, but it's a kick-ass movie. As is it's sequel (which isn't listed because...?)
Kodocha (OAV) Weak
Tells the basic (first) story told in the Kodocha TV series, only not nearly as well.
Magic Knight Rayearth (TV) Good
Kinda cool. A little repetitive, but entertaining enough to finish the season.
Mermaid Forest (OAV) Very good
Very creepy, in a very fun way.
Mermaid's Scar (OAV) Very good
See comments for Mermaid Forest.
Millennium Actress (movie) Weak
Dull.
My Neighbor Totoro (movie) Very good
Adorable, with some really fun animation, but not as rewatchable as other stories by Ghibli.
Natsuiro no Sunadokei (OAV) So-so
Ninja Nonsense (TV) Weak
Not very good. No actual character development, a lot of typical (not very good) ecchi humor, and none of the characters are particularly interesting. The single plot hook turns out to be extremely disappointing, and leads to NOWHERE, so don't get your hopes up.
Photon: The Idiot Adventures (OAV) Excellent
Absolutely hilarious. "Idiot" describes the entire cast well. Definitely worth a watch, not for the plot, which is 'meh', but for the humor, which is constant and well-done.
(Le) Portrait de Petite Cossette (OAV) Awful
Pretentious, and FREAKING CREEPY. Bondage and nudity involving ten-year-olds by the second episode. Huge waste of my time.
Revolutionary Girl Utena (TV) Worst ever
Yet another series that fell victim to the "evil ending" syndrome. Starts out great, devolves into bad. I need to remember which episode is safe to watch up to so I can get the collection without making my brain cry again.
Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie Worst ever
Take the entire plot of Utena, shave off random bits of it until only half is left, throw in human cars, take the lesbian undertones of the series and make them overt, make them creepy while you're at it, and you've got a less horrible movie than this one is.
RG Veda (OAV) Decent
Gorgeous, but only two episodes, so kind of wasted gorgeousness, but since the plot didn't seem very promising, what the hell.
Ring (live-action movie 1998) Very good
Like Kill Bill, no idea what this is doing in an anime list, but it was good. Most scary movies are just stupid, but this one was very well done.
Saint Beast (TV) Bad
I already downloaded the whole thing, so I might as well finish it, but never has a description turned out so pathetically wrong. Supposedly, very good fodder for those who like bishounen. Actually, if you're going to make an anime about bishounen, you should keep in mind that there's a LOT of competition out there. This one seems to think long hair of various colors, oddly-colored eyes, effeminate voices, and a token (semi) cross-dresser are going to do it. Wrong. On the story side, it seems like it's cursed with badly written scripts, but that could be a bad subjob. Very difficult to tell.
Sorcerer Hunters (TV) Good
Hilarious, but slightly repetitive, with limited re-watch appeal. As I unfortunately discovered *after* splurging on the box set. :(
Tenchi Muyo! (OAV 1/1992) Excellent
Brilliant. Great story, great characters, great action.
Tenchi the Movie - Tenchi Muyo in Love Bad
Stupid. Watch the OVA again instead.
Vandread (TV) Very good
Very fun. A bit repetitive but still very fun.
