Alright, so I had to know what all the fuss was about. I watched the first episode and I have to say, I am still wondering. I admit, seeing the first episode might not seem like a whole hell of a lot, but a whole hell of a lot happened in that episode. They introduced and killed three characters (besides the slew of bad guys that got wiped out) one of whom was a magic girlfriend. There was a mecha battle and a prince and some highschool drama. There is way too much to take in edited way too fast, and all in super-elongated CLAMP style. I'll probably watch some more later in case it improves, but right now I can't say I enjoyed what I saw very much at all. |

Although over a hundred chapters long and somewhat eposodic, GE 999 manages to pull off a unique and well crafted story in each episode with Bebop-like flair. There is definatly filler here, but it is good filler and adds demesion to its characters with each new experiance. If you are unfamilair with Matsumoto Leji's groundbreaking work, this is a great place to start. |

Among the smartest anime series ever made. The phiosophy and mind bending plotting will make your head spin. The action sequences will drop your jaw. Stand Alone Complex lives up to Ghost in the Shell's the reputation for excitement balanced with brainy plots. |

Three words: Ultimate Ninja Anime. The greatest long-running series ever created. Unfortunately, episode #142 begins a series of unwatchable filler arcs that, as far as I can tell, extend up until (and including) the final episode of the series, that is, #220. This, coupled with a tragically bad dub, has done a lot to tarnish Naruto's reputation. I'm sticking to my guns on this one though: Naruto is a modern classic. Recently, a new series, which takes place 2 1/2 years after the original, has begun. It apparently picks up the original non-filler story line again. Finally. |

God, this is so much more engaging than I thought it was going to be. The whole series has a very tongue-in-cheek feel to it, which I was not expecting. The basic story framework is a menace-of-the-week structure very similar to the 1970s Devilman TV series, but with considerably more character development. Also, it does a good job of switching back and forth between love, horror, and comedy in each episode. The animation is solid, though the transformation sequences (which are, admittedly, iconic) get tiresome after you realize that they are going to show them at least once every episode. |

A well exicuted revisitation of Akira Kurosawa's masterwork, The Seven Samurai as a futuristic anime where human samurai fight against giant mecha samurai. Although it is obviously impossible for this anime to live up to anything bordering on the greatness of the original, this is a well animated and entertaining show. Did I mention it is loaded with bishi boys and not-so-subtle shonen-ai hints? Overtly slashy, even more so than Naruto. |

The classic space pirate anime from anime pioneer Matsumoto Leji. As with all Leji's work, this is a must see. Crossovers abound in Leji's work, and this is where it all starts. Any fan of Space Pirate Captain Harlock will be also be a fan of Galaxy Express 999 (and viece verca.) |
