I try to add enlightening commentary, but let's face it:
I'm far from perfect.

    EDIT: 2020-12-31
I have seen two three videos that examine the concept of "classics" from distinctly different perspectives:
  1. Gigguk | Garnt Maneetapho

  2. Mother's Basement | Geoff Thew

  3. Bonsai Pop | Mike ?

First of all, this is neither for the children nor the squeemish. THERE IS GRAPHICALLY EXPLICIT VIOLENCE ALONG WITH SOME NUDITY (please note that this in not hentai). For those with a very healthy tolerance of both violence and nudity, then you will probably be interested in this series. The plot lines (and corresponding character development) are excellent. It is true that the violence/gore and nudity does beg the question: To what degree does it advance the plot/character development; and to what degree is it fanservice that panders to the lowest common denominator?

The series should be seen twice in its entirety because everything (and I do mean everything) is inserted into the anime for a reason – if not a purpose. Consider, for example, the song Lilium.

Here is not just a translation, but an interpretation as well.
  1. "OS IUSTI MEDITABITUR SAPIENTIAM
The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom
  2. ET LINGUA EIUS LOQUETUR IUDICIUM
And his tongue shall speak judgement
  3. BEATUS VIR QUI SUFFERIT TENTATIONEM
Blessed the man who resists temptation
  4. QUONIAM CUM PROBATUS FUERIT ACCIPIET CORONAM VITAE
For when proved he shall receive the crown of life
  5. KYRIE, IGNIS DIVINE, ELEISON
    Lord, Divine Fire, have mercy
  6. O QUAM SANCTA, QUAM SERENA
    O how holy, how serene
  7. QUAM BENIGNA, QUAM AMOENA,
    How benevolent, how comforting,
  8. O CASTITATIS LILIUM
    O Lily of Chastity.
"Presumably, the point of the song is that the 'just man' (the kid who’s hiding the genetically engineered girl) has to undergo trials, while the mutant girl is being compared to Mary." ―M.S. O'Brien
  • Here is an analysis of the OP.
  • Here is a listing of YouTube reviews.
  • Here is a list of reviews as shown by DuckDuckGo.
  • Am in the process of rewatching it and in the 1st episode no one is the slightest bit curious about the not-so-minor fact that everyone but one person in the control room has been murdered by a diclonious; so I'm cutting the ratings by one notch.
Elfen Lied (OAV) Very good (dub), Excellent (sub)
Crucial backstory information revealed.
Engaged to the Unidentified (TV) Excellent
ERASED (TV) Excellent
It offers hope even when a smarter, sinister mind seemingly has the upper hand.
Ergo Proxy (TV) Very good
Matthew Roe YouTube Essay
Escaflowne: The Movie Excellent (dub & sub)

PROS:
  • NIce OST! (look up composer)
  • Not just AN open-ended ending, but multiple open-ended endings!
CON: Steampunk sensibility combined with fantasy sensibility; so I will not rate this at 11/11(masterpiece).
Eternal Family (TV) Good
It's an art house film. Seeing as how even I rated it at 8/11, I don't think that most people will like it. Check out this comparison.
Eureka Seven (TV) Very good
(The) Executioner and Her Way of Life (TV) Masterpiece (dub & sub)
  1. 10/11
  2. 10/11
  3. 10/11
  4. 10/11
  5. 11/11 "Orwell" lives up or, rather, down to her name.....
  6. 11/11 So [future] Akari is living for the day when Menou can and will kill her..... That's pretty twisted!
Jean-Karlo Lemus & Steve Jones
    I like the ED!
  1. Lots of shady stuff happening in the port of Libelle.....
There's a missing explanation, though; so rating at 10/11
  2. The investigation continues..... But what's up with the repeated use of the bar scene animation?! 9/11
  3. So now Akari has questions for Manon Libelle..... 10/11
  4. 11/11
  5. Damn, but this is exciting! 11/11
  6. I'm just dying for a 2nd cour! 11/11
The Ending is Paramount. Rating it at 11/11 for both sub & dub.
Expelled from Paradise (movie) Excellent (dub & sub)
NIce OST and good character development on Angela Balzac's part. I cannot decide whether or not to change my rating from 10/11 to 11/11.
Fate/Grand Order: First Order (special) Excellent
From ANIME NOW!:
Based on the popular Japanese mobile game, Fate/Grand Order is set in a world where, due to a series of temporal anomalies caused by wishes from the Holy Grail, the extinction of all humanity is only a year away. To fix these broken timelines, the last time travel-capable mage and a girl merged with the soul of the mysterious hero “Shielder” must travel back and fix what once went wrong. Their first stop? A world where the events of Fate/stay night went very, very badly.
    Pros:
  • Nice graphics!
  • The ending is paramount.....
  • "Fou"'s reaction at the 1:07:59 mark is almost priceless ― sorta breaking the 4th wall, really!
  • Meaningful death confirmed.....
  • Really open-ended ending.....
Con: The ending is paramount..... (and at the end the show was telegraphing "Leff"'s intentions)
Fate/Grand Order: Moonlight/Lostroom (special) Very good
Although it's basically a 30-minute info. dump, I have changed my mind about my rating for it. Initially, I was going to rate it at 8/11 (good); but both the beginning and the ending neatly bookend each other. Therefore, I will rate it at 9/11 (very good).
Fate/Prototype (OAV) Very good
Read Kim Morrissy's essay.
Fate/stay night (TV) Good
