I try to add enlightening commentary, but let's face it:
I'm far from perfect.

    EDIT: 2020-12-31
I have seen two three videos that examine the concept of "classics" from distinctly different perspectives:
  1. Gigguk | Garnt Maneetapho

  2. Mother's Basement | Geoff Thew

  3. Bonsai Pop | Mike ?
EDIT: 2020-04-11
In this video YouTube user Gigguk (Garnt Maneetapho) talks about SAO in the context of gateway anime.
2 Videos That Share a Common Theme:
  1. "The Greatest Thing Anime Has Done"|Gigguk (Garnt Maneetapho)
  2. "A Love Letter to a Place Further than the Universe" | Isla McTear (Line/link added 2020-06-24)

Seen/Read All (public list) Rating
Attack on Titan: No Regrets (OAV) Masterpiece
The death count is not just large, it's personal as well.
Bamboo Blade (TV) Very good (dub & sub)
Bartender (TV) Excellent
Battle Angel (OAV) Excellent
*Read this essay.
*Of course, this OAV is from the mid-90's, but even so; the graphics don't look all that impressive. I really don't know what to make of the graphics.
* Ep.#2: 12:20 mark -- What's up with the breaking glass?
*Every time Yugo's name got mentioned, I couldn't help but think of this.
*The ED (to me, anyway) seems to have an '80s sound to it.....
*Must remember to check out the manga.....
Belladonna of Sadness (movie) Excellent
  • Art house film ─ your enjoyment will be in direct proportion to your tolerance for the genre.
  • Minimal animation / limited budget (see above note)
  • The nudity reminds me of the nudity found in Elfen Lied: It's there for a purpose ─ not merely titillation.
  • This film really piles on the death and despair.
  • I think that the film's message is that sexuality is something to be embraced, not shunned.
BELLE (movie) Masterpiece (dub & sub)
Best Student Council (TV) Decent
Beyond the Boundary (TV) Good (dub & sub)
  1. OST seems interesting.
  2. ep.#2: a dark backstory is hinted at.....
  3. ep.#3: the dark hallow reigns.
  4. ep.#4: the dark hallow falls. The ending hints at a dark future.
And I will have to see if I disagree with Carl Kimlinger.....
  5. ep.#5: Great trolling at 17:25!
  6. ep#6: Interesting attempt at humor here, but there's a flaw in the logic. Also, I need to ID the insert song.
  7. ep.#7: A rapprochement between Mirai Kuriyama and Sakura Imani. A new threat emerges and a trust is betrayed.
  8. ep.#8: Miroku Fujima demands that Ayaka Shindou surrender Akihito Kanbara to him. Hand-to-hand combat ensues.
  9. ep.#9: Is it the fate of Mirai Kuriyama to kill Akihito Kanbara? The ED song, "Daisy" by STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION, becomes more and more poignant.
  10. ep.#10: The story is not told linearly; is Mirai Kuriyama alive or dead? Also, the OP song is used poignantly as an insert song.
  11. ep.#11: The setup for the final battle.
  12. ep.#12: What a disappointing ending..... (and The Ending Is Paramount) I was thinking of rating it at maybe 10/11 ("Excellent") or 9/11 ("Very Good"), but that ENDING is just sticking in my craw!
There's also an "Episode 0"
  • I've gotta admit that the dub is pretty damned GOOD!
    ADR Director: Christopher Ayres
Beyond the Boundary -I'LL BE HERE- Future (movie) Excellent (dub & sub)
  • Nice ost!
  • I will not deny that the graphics are impressive.....
  • A significant death in the past is explained.
  • Highly unusual in that this sequel is better than the original.
(The) Big O (TV) Good (dub & edit.dub)
Imagine Batman in a giant robot, and you'll get a pretty good feel for what this is like; however, the series is not episodic.

Pro: Nice OST. (OP, ED, & BGM)
Cons:

  1. The ending is paramount: Cartoon Network wanted a 3rd season, and it shows.
  2. How did Alex Rosewater -- and Major Dan Dastun -- find out about Roger Smith's relationship with Big O? That is not explained.
Binbō Shimai Monogatari (TV) Very good
Birdy the Mighty Decode: The Cipher (OAV) Good (dub), Very good (sub)
Birdy the Mighty Decode:02 (TV) Very good (dub), Excellent (sub)
Birdy the Mighty: Decode (TV) Very good (dub), Excellent (sub)
Black Cat (TV) Good (dub & sub)
