Obviously, I haven't finished these yet (so much anime and manga, yet so little time!!!).

Seen some Rating
Attack on Titan (TV 2/2017)
Basilisk (TV)
Saw the beginning, saw the ending; this tragedy is positively operatic in scope.
Bleach (TV)

It's a looong running shonen flick. If you're going to watch this, then research which arcs to avoid; some arcs are terrific, while some are just painfully drawn-out drivel!

Cour Arrancar: Decisive Battle of Karakura arc (episodes 213-229)
  1. What was the animation budget? They seem to have taken a number of shortcuts....
    • There's a lotta talking going on in these "battles"..... (Perhaps an animation budget issue?)
    • Humor in a battle scene? Is this really canon?
    • The humor in the "Shinigami Work Diary" is better than what was in the actual episode itself! Sheesh!
    • I really like the OP & ED, though!
    • Hard to believe that this is really canon. Has the manga really declined so badly at this point?
    • Right now it's hard for me to care about any of the characters above Karakura Town.
    • It's a sad state of affairs when "The ShinigamI Work Diary" is more entertaining than the episode itself! Right now I'm rating this cour at 6/11 ─ and I think I'm being generous.
So-so (edit.dub & sub)
Boys Over Flowers (TV)
Burn The Witch (movie)
So apparently there are going to be something like 3-6 episodes per year? I would rate the 1st 3 at 10/11.
Dagashi Kashi (TV)
12 ep.s
Sounds quirky -- check it out!
Plot Summary:
Kokonotsu “Coconuts” Shikada dreams of becoming a famous manga artist. The only problem—he’s terrible. His real talent is selling the complex and delicious snacks in his father’s “dagashi” shop. He never thought much about the family business until the trendy, eccentric Hotaru showed up. As a lover of “dagashi,” she can’t let his talent go to waste and decides she won’t stop ‘til she’s sold him on sweets.
  1. Setup; surprisingly humorous.
  2. Moderately humorous.
Dimension W (TV)
  1. Fan service.
  2. "Loser" presents a mystery from the past.
El Cazador de la Bruja (TV)
Emma: A Victorian Romance (TV)
Flowers of Evil (TV)
Very psychological; a psychological horror.
The manga is strongly recommended. (Sakagami Tomoyo's comment is 2nd below)
Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma (TV)
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (TV)
Fushigi Yugi (TV)
52 ep.s + 3 OAV sequels ─ Bamboo Dong recommends it.

  1. Obviously, a rather limited animation budget.....
  2. The basic setup is set out.
  3. So Tamahome seems to be creating the nucleus of a harem.....
  4. Love triangles.
  5. Taiitsukun tests the two love triangles.
  6. "Even if I Die": Taiitsukun creates an evil version of Miaka.
    • I'm surprised by just how much I'm enjoying the humor in this episode!
    • Miaka and Yui exchange places.
  7. "Brief Parting"
    • The animation budget seems to have taken a hit.....
    • So how does Miaka break into the National Library?! (CON)
    • I'm sorry, but I like my plots to maintain an internal logic; how are things "too calm" when military forces are on the border?! (CON)
  8. "Enemies Unseen"
So exactly how do arrows kill an assassin inside a house?! (CON)
Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo (TV)
Hunter × Hunter (TV 2011)
At 148 ep.s, it's simply too much to watch!

I will say, however, that there are meaningful deaths.....

Very good
Inferno Cop (ONA)
ep.#1: I don't know what to make of this; art house? So bad it's good?
Izetta: The Last Witch (TV)
Japan Animator Expo (ONA)
  1. Dragon's Teeth. Ends on notes of mystery.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders (TV)
Has the same major flaw as the first season -- see my comments in Will Not Finish.
Kodomo no Jikan Nigakki (OAV)
Lucky Star (TV)
  • The humor just isn't my cup of tea.....
  • I bumped the rating up one notch to 7/11 because I like the OP.
  • See Slice-of-life
Lupin III: Part IV (TV 2015)
Saw it on Toonami -- I rated it at 9/11 because of the OP.
Very good
Mirai (movie)
Check out the dub.
  • 35:00 is the boy imagining all of this?
  • sibling rivalry: gotta love it.....
  • The character designs strongly resemble The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars
  • It's charming, there's no denying that; but how much of that was his imagination and how much was real?
  • It's true that Mirai (from the future) is a part of the plot, but she's only one part of the plot ─ the title is somewhat misleading.
Neko-sensei wrote:
[...] However, I think that you've done the film a bit of a disservice by entirely ignoring its main character — the house itself.

For all four-year-olds, the physical space they inhabit is the shape and boundary of their universe, defining their experience of their family and their family's world. Hosoda had the house in the film designed by an architect from scratch in order to make it the fruit of Kun's father's labors; it's important to note that "home" is the contribution Dad made to Kun's upbringing, although he had to sacrifice his time with his son to make it.

Having been constructed by the generation before Kun's, the house becomes the temporal nexus connecting him to the generations of the future and the past. The house stands for the family itself, the eternal story in which each individual life is its own chapter—a chapter that tells its own standalone tale that is nevertheless entirely incomprehensible without the larger context of the family story it serializes. The climactic fall through the family's full history, with all of its horrors and joys and amazing connections, its acknowledgement of the devastating power of death and the even more incredible life-force of the ongoing family that can overcome it, brings me to tears every time I watch it. (My own grandfather died when my father was a teenager, and I have often felt the mysterious, intimate connection to a man I've never met who is nevertheless present in all of my father's actions, and grieved for the loss of someone I never knew; that aspect of family is the real heart of Mirai's action.)

So yeah, having written all that up, I guess that for all I agree with this article's take on the failures and foibles of Kun and his parents, I really disagree with its conclusion about the film's worthiness. Viewed as being "about" family history from the perspective of a very small child, I think it's a unique and positively mira(i)culous work.

Very good
Mitsuboshi Colors (TV)
I tried to watch an ep./day; I really tried, but in the end it was just too painful for me. I think that it is aimed at prepubescent children. I must see if it was ever reviewed.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (TV 2)
Munto (OAV)
Nice plot; but the animation does show it's age..... (dub)
Munto 2: Beyond the Walls of Time (OAV)
The director seems to have rationed the animation budget to give the action scenes extra oomph. (dub)
Very good
Paranoia Agent (TV)
(The) Qwaser of Stigmata II (TV)
Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul (TV)
24 ep.s
  1. So apparently Nina is a dragon? Gonna have to watch more.....
  2. So the Rag Demon is saved by the Holy Child.....
  3. The Rag Demon is lured out!
Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- (TV 2)
  1. "Each One's Loss"
The first return convoy is ambushed by the Sin Archbishops of Greed & Gluttony.
  2. "The Next Location"
Suburu is still acting quite the idiot by not thinking things through.
Subaru meets the Witch of Greed Echidna.
  3. "The Long-Awaited Reunion"
Garfiel & Echidna make their respective appearances.
  4. "Parent and Child"
Subaru comes to terms with his parents and how he grew up.
  5. "A Step Forward"
Echidna basically says that Suburu has passed only one of the three trials and that Emilia simply isn't up to it.
  6. "The Maiden's Gospel"
Elsa is back; and she's slaughtering as she always has without revealing who her client is.
  7. "Friend"
    So many questions.....
    • Who is Elsa's client?
    • How did Elsa know that opening all of the doors would reveal Beatrice's door?
    • What is the nature of Beatrice's relationship with the Witch Cult?
  8. "The Value of Life"
Suburu finally finds in Echidna someone that he can unburden his sorrows onto.
  9. "Love Love Love Love Love Love You"
So: What, exactly, is the nature of Roswaal's relationship with the Witch Cult?
  10. "I Know Hell"
The Witch of Envy attacks the inhabitants of the Sanctuary. Suburu is only able to reverse the deaths by suiciding. But the Mansion is still in imminent danger.
  11. "The Taste of Death"
Even in Death, Roswaal conceals his intentions.
  12. "The Witches' Tea Party"
Seeking answers, Suburu goes to Echidna who tries to get him to enter into a contract with her. To stop that from occurring, four other witches show up -- who are subsequently followed by Satella, the Witch of Envy.
  13. "The Sounds That Make You Want to Cry"
There's no denying that these cliffhangers are quite effective.....
All of the witches sorta act as psychotherapists to help Suburu come to terms with his self-loathing issues. Even Otto gets in on the act -- hence, my reference earlier to the cliffhangers.....
Through Otto's tough love Suburu is able to come up with a plan that just might work.
  15. "Otto Suwen / A Reason to Believe"
Otto Suwen -- joined by Ram -- uses his Divine Protection, "Soul of Language" in a desperate attempt to distract Garfiel so as to give Suburu time to persuade Emilia that she can trust both himself and others. And the mains actually kiss each other!!! That is so rare in anime shows.....
  16. "Nobody Can Lift a Quain Stone Alone"
Suburu and Garfiel come to an understanding -- after Garfiel has been beaten by both Ram and Suburu. Then first Garfiel and then Emilia enter their respective trials.
  17. A Journey Through Memories
Emilia and the Witch of Greed, Echinda, view Emilia's repressed memories.
Red Garden (TV)
GR "Anime" Review: RWBY|Tristan "Arkada" Gallant ("Glass Reflection")
  1. ep.#1: graphics/animation are a bit crude; OST is decent, however.
  2. ep.#2: Ruby Rose tries to get her bearing without her sister for guidance.
  3. ep.#3: pretty snappy dialogue..... Also, mildly amusing.
  4. ep.#4: more snappy dialogue..... and more mildly amusing humor.
  5. ep.#5: I like Blake Belladona's attitude!
  6. ep.#6: Forgot just how f'ugly the graphics/animation are.....
If I'm not mistaken, then they saved their animation budget for the action scenes.....
  7. So the pairs are getting their collective asses kicked on a largely individual basis.....
  8. Yeah, they definitely rationed the animation budget to give the action scenes the most oomph.
Oh, and the OST definitely needs to be checked out!
  9. 1st day of class..... (snoozefest)
  10. The team adjusts to Ruby as leader.
  11. Jacques Schnee & Co. are being bullies.
  12. Blackmail.
  13. More of the same.....
  14. Jaune Arc finally lets go of his pride. (Ironically enough, after he comes into his own.)
  15. Blake Belladonna character development. And the OST ain't half bad, either.....
  16. This thriller is to be continued.....
  1. (1)Food fight?! Maybe the director was trying to impress with the animation?
At least there was some plot progression.....
  2. (2)There seems to be a pattern here: Some plot progression; a lot of filler; and then a little more plot progression.
  3. (3)"I'm not a girl."
  4. (4)"The girls will be alright, right?"
  5. (5)"Don't worry, Mercury. We have a fun weekend ahead of us."
  6. (6)"Wouldn't miss it for the world."
  7. (7)"So what now?"
"Enjoy the rest of the night; it is, after all, a party."
  8. (8)"Why, hello girls! Who's ready to fight for their lives?"
  9. (9)"Don't worry; things will be better tomorrow."
  10. (10)"If Ruby is down there, we must find her."
The plot actually seems to be moving at a faster pace!
  11. (11)panicked screams
  12. (12)"Do you think that White Fang will listen to us?"
"No, but they'll listen to me."
  • Graveside conversation -- really emotional for me.
  • A lotta action sequences -- not so much in the way of plot.....
SaiKano (live-action movie)
It's difficult to do SFX very well.....
Shirobako (TV)
Willag Crisha recommends it. 24 ep.s
Also, see "Sakura Quest" (25 ep.s)
Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (TV)
12 ep.s
  1. If you can accept the limited animation, then all bibliophiles should like this series.
Tales of Zestiria: Dōshi no Yoake (special)
It seems to be a compilation OVA.....
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki (OAV 2/1994)
    • Baby hijinks.
    • Infants cannot maneuver like that [Con]
    • To be continued.....

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (OAV)
Ep.s 1 & 2 are humorous fanservice.
Ep.s 3--5 are serious shounen.
haven't seen dub
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (TV 2)
Crunchyroll lists season #2 as starting with a recap episode, ep.#24.9
  1. "Rimuru's Busy Life"
Rimuru sends off Jura Tempest's diplomatic delegation to Eurazania and receives the delegation from Eurazania, whereupon two duels immediately begin.
  2. "Trade with the Animal Kingdom"
When the duels are settled, an agreement is made between Tempest and Eurazania; Rimuru then takes a diplomatic delegation to Dwargon. The Dwarves are excited to visit home.
  3. "Paradise, Once More"
Seeing Rimuru's perverted side is so refreshing! Perverted Rimuru For The Win!
But he's found out! Woe is him!
  4. "The Scheming Kingdom of Falmuth"
Myulan -- a maijin -- surveils Tempest at the order of the demon Lord Claymon. Myulan does not suspect that Claymon will not honor his promise to undo the curse that he placed upon her.
Meanwhile, the king of Falmuth -- along with with the Western Holy Church -- makes preparations to invade Jura Tempest because of the economic threat that that country poses.
  5. "Prelude to the Disaster"
Myulan activates the Anti-Magic Area spell and Rayheim simultaneously activates the Prison Field spell.
  6. "The Beauty Makes Her Move"
The Western Holy Church launches a surprise attack, catching everyone in Jura Tempest off guard.
  7. "Despair"
Rimuru barely escapes from Hinata only to find Tempest wrecked by Myulan and the Western Holy Church.
  8. "Hope"
Most of the residents of Tempest have been slaughtered. Just when Rimuru is about to give in to despair he learns that because of the unique situation that is occurring within Tempest that there is a sacrificial technique that might -- just might -- bring these dead back to life.
  9. "Putting Everything on the Line"
After assessing the situation, Rimuru creates a counter-plan to deal with the enemies of Juru Tempest.
  10. "Megiddo"
The counter-plan mostly works, but survivors do escape to report back to the King of Falmuth and the Archbishop of the Holy Western Church.
  11. "Birth of a Demon Lord"
Rimuru successfully becomes a demon lord and begins the process to raise the dead.
  12. "The One Unleashed"
This cour ends on a cliffhanger.....
I have decided to rate this cour at 11/11 (Masterpiece) because I gave it a base rating of 9/11 (Very Good) but I found it engaging and there's that cliffhanger.....
have not seen/heard the dub
Thundercats (U.S. TV)
  • I am so clueless; but it is because of that cluelessness that I will not rate this.....
  • Apparently, it was animated in Japan.....
I've changed my mind; I'll rate this based on my memories.
Touhou Fantasy Kaleidoscope: The Memories of Phantasm (dōjin ONA)
Twilight (movie)
comments are in Wts(movie/OVA)
Uma Musume Pretty Derby (TV)

Because I can't find a review, I guess I'll have to provide some descriptions.....
There doesn't seem to be an English dub.....
  1. OST seems decent.....
    Is this a slice-of-life? Can't tell.....
So it's definitely "Country girl comes to the big city." Out in the sticks, they have rotary telephones.....
  2. So Special Week wins her debut race.....
     photo Pretty Derby ep2cropped_zpsls6sljo6.jpg
I'm still trying to figure out what this series is about.....
  3. So far, this appears to be about cute horse-girls running in cute outfits.....
    What's up with this shot?

The more that I think about that image, the more I'm reminded of just how sexist Japanese culture is!

  4. Trainer sets up a mock race for Special Week with Taiki Shuttle.....
  5. First off, before I get into the synopsis (such as it, and what there is of it) I would like to ask this: What's up with the Rubik's Cube?

With that outta the way, let's get on to the race! How does it finish?

    That's right; a photo finish!
    Rivals, yet friends as well.....

  6. First off: If you're gong to offer fanservice, then at least try to offer it in support of the plot.

Second thing: This Rubik's Cube shows up three different times! What's up with that?!

They sure weren't skimping on the animation budget.....

    • unexpected humor at 15:45
    • So this episode was pretty much slice-of-life, except for a race and Silence Suzuka's decision to race abroad.
  7. This body shaming is getting real old, real quick!!!
No way am I rating this any higher than 9/11 ("Very Good").

The ED for ep.#7 is nice, but I'm still pissed off about the body shaming. Normally, my baseline for determining a rating is at 9/11, but with this body-shaming drivel I think that the baseline could well be 6/11 or even 3/11! This shit is outrageous!!!
    • "Special Week" vs. "Grass Wonder". "Grass Wonder"'s feelings are not reciprocated.
Ushio & Tora (TV)
might be good -- 2nd season coming.....
Young Black Jack (TV)
check out the OP & ED
ep.#6 -- 5:50 well, that's not a surprise.....
