I am a harsh critic. Not because I love being harsh, but because I think the top spots should be reserved for truly special shows. So with that said, even a show that does everything right may only get Very Good.

For Excellent, the show must be above and beyond expectations and leave a lasting impact. For Masterpiece it has to be Excellent and be "life changing"; it makes you think differently or instills new beliefs, the soundtrack must be perfect. A Masterpiece or excellent will usually evoke real emotions, you will feel invested in the characters, you will at times forget that you're watching a show.

Cowboy Bebop (manga) Very good This was like having more episodes of Cowboy Bebop. It was very entertaining.
Cowboy Bebop Shooting Star (manga) Excellent It's amazing that they canceled this manga series, I liked it better than the regular Bebop manga. I think it's amazing that a completely different artist can get the characters exactly right without being given very much coaching from the anime team.
.hack//Legend of the Twilight (manga) Very good This was a very enjoyable manga series. The plot is completely different from the Anime based off of it. I like this one much better and found it to be very interesting and addicting.
Legal Drug (manga) Decent Trippy manga. I heard their publisher went belly-up and more volumes are in the works with a different one. The story is interesting, but the gay-themes kinda creeped me out. This is made by CLAMP and is related to XXXaholic, Tsubasa, and Cardcaptor Sakura.
Rurouni Kenshin (manga) Excellent This is the way Watsuki intended this story to be. Reading it in official Tankoban for, I was also able to get the artist's running commentary between chapters; you really feel like you got to know him and his self-depricating humor. The pacing is much better than the anime, you have none of the filler plot and it goes straight through the Shi-Shio arc into the content Trust and Betrayal. While I felt the OVA did a better job with the material, the manga connects this plot with present day and the series ends on a plot arc that really puts Kenshin's past to rest. It was great how this all came together. Well worth the read.
Sensei o Mite Kudasai (manga) Good So this is my first time placing a hentai manga in my list (unless you count Gantz). On the surface, this 250 page manga looked like a bland high school manga with lots of x-rated content, but the plot surrounding these characters is actually pretty interesting. The characters were well-drawn and unique. The romances were more or less believable and he did quite a bit with such a short work. I hope this guy is eventually able to transition to less pornographic works the way Hiroya Oku (the author of Gantz) was able to do. He's really talented. Read it, if you can get past the smut - its not for everyone.
