Listen to the Full Version of the Attack on Titan theme “Red Swan” by YOSHIKI and HYDE Now!

Two awesome singers YOSHIKI and HYDE are performing the Attack on Titan season 3 theme song “Red Swan”. Its official worldwide premiere is TODAY and you can grab it on iTunes now, where it's already hit #1 on The Rock charts in 10 countries (Japan, Finland, Greece, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Hong Kong) and climbing the Top 10 on The Rock charts in the USA and UK. It's the first anime song in history to dominate rock and mainstream charts worldwide.

The new song, which features YOSHIKI's first-ever recording collaboration with vocalist HYDE (L'Arc~en~Ciel), was announced at Anime Expo on July 8 while it was still a work in progress. The “TV Edit” version was released on digital platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, RecoChoku, and others on July 23.

Yūki Kaji, Japanese voice actor of the the protagonist Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan, also attended the convention and was thrilled about this collaboration. "They're superstars -- not only in Japan, but also around the world. Being involved with them through my work in the series feels like a dream."

The duo unveiled the long-awaited full version of the new Attack on Titan theme song, “Red Swan”, on Music Station Ultra Fes 2018 which was aired on September 17 on TV Asahi in Japan.

On the roof of the said building that night, where it had been raining up until just moments before, the superstar musicians performed their first-ever TV collaboration. YOSHIKI played his crystal piano while HYDE delivered the mixed English-Japanese lyrics with the brightly-lit Tokyo Tower in the background.

The song is composed by YOSHIKI and was uploaded on YOSHIKI CHANNEL on September 15, where they also released details of the CD covers and the October 3 worldwide release date. After their TV performance, YOSHIKI said, “During our rehearsals, the rain just kept falling throughout, but for it to stop so suddenly, the gods must have been listening.”

During the September 15 “YOSHIKI x HYDE” YOSHIKI CHANNEL broadcast, YOSHIKI revealed that “Red Swan” had just been completed a few days earlier in Los Angeles. He also divulged the secret that the song was created partially based on a section from X JAPAN's hit song “Rusty Nail”.

“Creating a song that will break down walls, in more ways than one. That was my mission, in a manner of speaking. I never thought I'd actually accept it though!” YOSHIKI said as he talked about the collaboration.

HYDE expressed that “Nobody can turn down a request from YOSHIKI,” then continued, “but seriously I was truly delighted to join this collaboration.” He also mentioned that he's been listening to the final version of “Red Swan” quite often.

YOSHIKI also shared some insight into the stories behind the two CD covers. First, as the “YOSHIKI feat. HYDE disc” CD cover that was unveiled, he explained that it was designed with elements of the cover for “Rusty Nail", with the blue blood trickling down. He also mentioned that a brand new illustration was created especially for the “Attack on Titan” version of the CD.

At the end of the broadcast, YOSHIKI had a heartfelt message for HYDE. Reflecting on the collaboration borne from a friendship going back many years, he said: “Thank you so much for this collaboration. Ten, twenty years ago I could never have imagined this kind of collaboration between members of different bands was possible. I'm really happy that we were able inspire each other to move forward. It's also served as motivation as X JAPAN moves forward.”

YOSHIKI and HYDE are scheduled to team up again for a performance on October 28 during HYDE's Halloween Party 2018. This will be the third time YOSHIKI has performed at the said event. HYDE is also set to appear for a guest performance in November's YOSHIKI CLASSICAL 2018 ~Two Violet Nights~ YOSHIKI with Philharmonic Orchestra event in Tokyo. This is will be YOSHIKI's first classical concert since his two back-to-back sold-out performances at Carnegie Hall in January 2017.
