Production IG working on Escape from New York Anime

posted on by Garry Berryhill
Snake Plissken, Kurt Russell's trademark character from John Carpenter's Escape from New York and Escape from L.A., will come to life in a Production I.G anime in 2005.

Production I.G has confirmed details with ANN about the upcoming Escape from New York anime that they are producing.

At this early stage in the development details are still scarce, but this is what I.G was able to tell us:

Production I.G is producing animation for a full-length (80-90 minutes) feature film. The script for the film is by Corey Mitchel and William Wilson under supervision of John Carpenter, Debra Hill and Kurt Russel. Production I.G is also able to give feedback on the story. While no distribution plans have been made yet, they are hoping for a "major" release of the film towards the end of 2004.

John Carpenter will score the music and Kurt Russel will provide the voice of Snake Plisken after the animation is complete. This is normal for Anime, however North American animated productions usually start with the voices, and then produce the animation to match the speech.

So far, I.G has completed a 30 second teaser / trailer for the movie, which will be included on the upcoming Escape from New York DVD. Snake is the only character that speaks in the trailer, and Kurt Russel will be recording the voice for the trailer soon.

The Japanese director will be Mitsuro Hongo.
