Watch the episode. The reason was pretty stupid, but the conclusion was mildly amusing because of the sudden music/mood switch.

From the sounds of it, Rio's pretty much nothing more than a Mary Sue type character. Total stock character with nothing to flesh out...except, of course, her flesh.

I'll probably catch the one episode just to hear Marina Inoue, though, seeing as she's one of my favorites, next to Yu Kobayashi.

I honestly don't mind spoiling this one. It's that stupid

spoiler[Like you thought, I thought there was something in the teddy bear too, but it turned out the guy just wanted it because he thought it was a rare teddy and collected them to ease his depression of the wife he broke up with.

It turned out the bear was made in China.]

Seriously, dumb.

There is such a show. It's called "Strike Witches."

Not to mention "High School of the Dead"!

Since I was bored I decided to watch Rio's first episode and gave up halfway through. It was boring and was beginning to skeev me out, which from the reviews looks like I stopped watching before the worse of it popped up. I mean I'm okay with fan service but when Rio expresses that she doesn't like wearing the things she is and then we get fan service of her in the outfits it makes watching the fan service incredibly uncomfortable for me. And then having Mint giving out body measurements, seriously what little girl knows that kind of thing?

And then the non-fan service thing that I couldn't get passed was the fact that the casino would hire someone that brought that much good luck to their customers.

I think this will be the last time I try a show without knowing anything about it.

My first prediction was implausible anatomical physics, which no reviewer has weighed in on pro or con.

However, my second prediction has been vindicated, of an anime that would break out of the confines of the sad sexual fetishes!! of otaku ... and add on top the sad delusions of gambling!! addicts. Finally, Just what anime has been waiting!! for.

And I was worried for the saddest of the otaku when I heard that Rio is supposed to be 21 ... but luckily she gets to be babysitter to to a little girl with a teddy bear that everyone wants!! to possess.

However, the saving grace is that card-games fans in Spanish America who will not be able to legally watch Cardfight!! Vanguard will be able to watch Cardplayer!! Bouncy-Bouncy Rio(!) in legit streaming. Its heartwarming that an anime that can generate such universal agreement from the ANN previewers regarding its qualities is so widely available around the world.

That isn't what a Mary Sue is.

I'd have been slightly more interested in Rio if the titular character had a bit more personality. Not going to lie, cause I like her character design. But her whole "I'm doing this cause the owner said so" routine was just plain grating. Had they given her a bit of a sardonic wit or even more of a Faye attitude it would have been so much more interesting than "Yes owner!"

Her flat (hah) character pretty much caused me to drop it.

Well the first horrid anime of the winter season is out of the way..lets hope the next title that is reviewed is more promising.

Figured as much. And thanks for spoiling that. There is no way I'm watching a show about poker playing breasts unless it at least has an evil talking teddy bear! Very Happy

The next one should be Kimi ni Todoke S2 (depending on if that's getting simulcast or not) and then Madoka Magica. Those should be more promising.

EDIT: Okay, I just found out KnT's first episode of the S2 is a recap called episode 0. Sucks.

Well, I checked out Rio simply for the "Hot chick on the cover," so expectations beyond that were quite low. But WOW! What a dumb episode! Laughing I made it to about the 15 minute mark; spoiler[the whole wedding ceremony to "help Rio become one with the game"] tipped me over the edge. I'd like to know how drunk those writers were when they came up with that idea! Laughing And annoying little girl is annoying.

I guess I'll be waiting for this weekend for Gosick, Beezlebub, and Dragon Crisis on CR. Hopefully those will be decent watches...

ANN should get the streaming rights to Urusei Yatsura, that way every time someone reviews a bad fan-service show they can say "Watch Urusei Yatsura instead" and people will actually watch it.

Perhaps they were sobering up and were threatened with being kept until they were fully sober unless they finished the script. So they finished it so they could go and out to drown out the wailing of the dreams of their youth in more ethyl alcohol.

"OK, yeah, sure it is obscenely bad ... but, but, but, but {Meaningful drunken look} But pachinko. Steady work!"
