Wow. I know Tokyo and, well, all of Japan is crowded and the worst hit areas to the north were bad. Yet I didn't think they'd need to use a convention center in Tokyo to house refugees from the north. Wow. That just gives you even more a sense of how devastating the disaster was to the worst hit areas. I know a friend in Tokyo was talking about markets being cleared out of food and supplies. I know power conservation is an issue all around Japan. Though from what I understand Tokyo itself was pretty unscathed in the event. So with such huge facilities, it makes sense to house refugees from other areas.

Glad to see the convention centers being used for a good cause during the off-season. I can't imagine what living there for an extended amount of time would be like, though, what with an overall lack of personal privacy.

Good luck, everyone! My heart goes out to you guys.

I notice you're posting from Italy, so I'll try and answer this. Temporary houses from FEMA (it's the acronym for the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the U.S.) is what the poster ment. If you live in the U.S. you would hopefully know about the problems FEMA had with their (toxic) trailers, which they bought for temp housing for Katrina victims (temp = I believe people are still living in them to this day Rolling Eyes ) . Just read the wiki article or run some of the key words out of these posts through Google and you should be able to find the information explain what he was getting at.

^ I understand, thanks for the explanation.

But are the temporary houses built in Japan the same that were built in the USA?

No idea. I'm not sure the Japanese government has gotten to the point of finding temporary housing for those left homeless yet Sad . The original comment was meant to be sarcastic humor and nothing more. So we need to just move on and let this thread end, unless someone has something on topic to add in.

^ Actually, temporary shelters are being built, somewhere. I read that few days ago on the NHK World website or Reuters, I don't remember anymore...
