When auditing genres and themes, I would really like the ability to add a comment and see others' comments, like how other error reports work. I know the comments are needed for other error reports because a staff member needs to make a decision based on them, and that they aren't necessarily needed for audits because the system processes them automatically. However, I think comments would be useful to explain to the other auditors what you were thinking when you marked something as correct or incorrect. Especially when you are the first person to mark a theme as incorrect, it seems like it would really be helpful to be able to give an explanation as to why you think it is incorrect. Sometimes themes are just obviously incorrect, but often I mark a theme as wrong for some other reason, including that it is a minor theme and not a reason for watching the anime, or it is a non-visual theme and the instructions say that they should be visual themes. Also, sometimes I believe a theme is wrong, but want to give an explanation as to why because I see how someone could think otherwise (e.g. I would certainly say Slayers isn't a "magical girl" anime, but would want to give an explanation as to what I think the term "magical girl" means, and why I think it wouldn't apply to someone like Lina Inverse).

Thinking on the information coming out of Japan with recent events, with agencies reporting that all of their talent are safe, I was thinking that it would be helpful if the agencies' company pages could reflect the seiyuu who work for them, and links on the seiyuu pages to reflect who they work for.

The upkeep of the pages could get complicated when people change/leave agencies, but a precision of "former" could be added on the agency page.

It would help a lot with the lists of people confirmed safe, to be able to list "All seiyuu from [agency] reported safe" with a link to the agency's page and the list right there.

Inspired by this thread, how should the encyclopedia address DVD extras?

It would make sense for the extras to be listed under trivia, but when you have cases like Chevalier d'Eon and Fruits Basket where the extras were removed, do those go under trivia as well, or should they be listed as a note "The [company/line] release of [title] does not include [noted extras]"?

I think it would be interesting to have the info on the extras somewhere, but the changes would be important to someone deciding if they're going for the newer or older releases (which, while TRSI does generally list them, other sites are less reliable about listing them, especially if you're buying from other consumers).

I think that the releases page for given a disc usually does a pretty good job of documenting the extras.

When adding opening and ending themes, it would be helpful to contributors if the artist/group were automatically added as staff for the task theme song performance. Like this, we wouldn't need to input similar data twice.

I'm trying to familiarize myself more with the various Japanese voice actors in animes I watch by looking up their pages and looking to see what other roles they have had that I have seen. It would be nice if the same icons that show up in the lists of animes that correspond to whether you've put it in your viewed/viewing list would show up in the view of the actor's various roles. This would more easily identify the entries that I am interested in.

Hello.

It would be interesting to have a setting on the "Staff Member" pages where the "Staff In" column could display the anime/manga titles in order from Highest-to-Lowest Rated, with Alphebetical Order as the main option.

Dear Sirs and Madams,

Even though I am far from being anywhere close to true specialists in anime which have thousands of titles watched, I still managed to see more than three hundreds anime works, and this experience made me thinking about few things that might improve usefulness of ANN encyclopaedia anime/manga pages that would make lives of anime lovers easier and more satisfying:

1. QUICKLY FINDING UNUSUAL ANIME THAT VIEWERS MIGHT REMEMBER FOR A LONG TIME

1.1. SUPPOSED PROBLEM:

Some viewers might prefer to explore anime/manga that is more unusual comparing to the most of other works. With the current rating system there is no way to know how typical or atypical certain anime/manga is.

For example, Kaiba is one of the most atypical anime series ever created, while Bleach might be one of the most typical (a teenage schooler finds out that he has superpowers -- check, spirits -- check, samurai-type warriors -- check, a la Men-In-Black an organization that fights bad spirits -- check).

This is totally separate matter from viewers' overall satisfaction (or lack thereof) from watching these anime. Being less typical does not mean that such title will be necessary as entertaining as typical anime (thus "Bleach" rightfully might have higher overall rating that many more original titles). So current rating system is very useful, but yet with certain addition it could save people a lot of time of trying to find less typical anime/manga.

1.2. PROPOSED SOLUTION:

Viewers might be offered to vote on how much they find certain anime/manga typical or not -- with, for example, the following options (of course, the words could be different, but the essence is the same): "typical", "less typical", "atypical".

With that kind of voting any newcomer could choose "Top 10/50/100 atypical" (or however this may be called) list in the ANN's menu and find out titles like "Hickaru no Go" because such work is different comparing to myriads of other anime, which may have the same or even better overall rating (for example, "Vandread" has better rating than "Yakitate!! Japan", but there is less originality in the former so viewer might forget this anime soon, while the latter might be remembered more brightly). Projects like "Kaiba" would be in the very top of the list.

Of course, this voting, brought to the "Top ..." type of results, should be weighted to exclude "noise" and possibly votes from users which watched less than certain quantity of anime titles -- this is matter of fine-tuning.

2. QUICKLY FINDING ANIME WITH BIG-SCALE SCENARIO, LESS "STORY OF THE WEEK" EPISODES

2.1. SUPPOSED PROBLEM:

No matter how much good overall viewer rating is, some viewers might not get very interested in projects that are based on "story of the week" principle -- even if the stories are really good (like, for example, in "Mushishi", "Kino's Journey", et cetera), let alone most of other series, which have mediocre small plots, fillers which are irrelevant to the big-scale story (if it exists at all).

From my experience, this problem even more severe than the first one, because it is much harder to guess if anime/manga has real story developed within its 13/26/52/... episodes or just frustrating pointless disconnected filler with only half of even quarter of episodes actually developing the story.

This problem less related to manga, but even there sometimes it is applicable: for example, most of "Cardcaptor Sakura" manga is based on "story of the week" principle. But the whole project is so charming that overall rating is high (I personally enjoyed it but there may be others which find slow development of "big story" to be tiresome).

2.2. PROPOSED SOLUTION:

On this one, I am less sure: this could be handled either by additional voting, too, with question (only to these who watched anime/read manga completely) like "How many episodes (among *all* of them) of this anime/chapters of this manga are based on "story of the week" principle?" with options for answer like: "none", "not many", "significant", "about half", "most of".

Or this could be managed via addition of certain fixed characteristic to manga/anime, which could be set by editors and/or by experienced users which help editing the encyclopaedia. This decision, however, might bring disputes in some cases, even though this characteristics usually should be quite obvious.

RESUME:

It is understandable that whatever additions to "mechanics" of the site might make UI too cluttered and the DB overloaded, but proposed features are possibly unique among presented on similar resources and capable of making ANN fans even more grateful and devoted.

What you think?

It would be really helpful if there was an option, in the encyclopedia search, to leave out anime in our "seen all" list. This way, if we're looking for new anime to watch, we won't have to double-check if we have seen an anime if we don't remember all the titles

It would be interesting if old official websites, instead of just being removed from the encyclopedia, gained a link to the Internet Archive. Websites of specific titles could be relocated to the links section of the encyclopedia while websites of companies and people could gain parenthesis or brackets indicating they come from the Wayback Machine.

I'd like to see whether other people have reviewed a title on the 'submitted anime' and 'submitted manga' lists - that way, we could add our opinions to others on titles we know, which would then lead to more being marked as having enough opinions on them to be reviewed.

Here on this great site that is ANN, we can search through anime organized alphabetically, by genre, theme, ratings, objectionable content, or even by what year it came out.

I would like to propose adding a feature that lets us search through titles by episode count.

Sometimes I specifically want a short 12-13 ep show, and other times I want something longer than the standard 24-26 episodes without it breaking the 100 level. What Im thinking is that it wouldn't be like searching through titles by ratings, where every title is listed from highest rating to lowest. It would probably be best if it was more like the objectionable content search, where you could check a box saying you don't want it to show any shows with more than 100 eps, or not shows with less than 13 eps. That way you could narrow the list of titles down to shows that are a length which appeals to you. It would be an excellent addition to the advanced title search.

For people who are members of a group (JAM Project's members, bands who have members with solo projects, etc), can we get two things?

1) A list of members (and, preferably, former members) of the group

2) A link to the group from the individual's page

I think basically, we need an anthology structure for people.

Yeah, pretty much.

It would be nice if we could use the anthology structure for agencies, too *points to suggestion near the top of the page, too*.
