Man, I was looking forward to reading this too. I only have one manga to begin with and when I saw some of the original artwork for this title a while back I was impressed and really wanted to expand (possibly with this title), even if there is lots of fanservice.

I love a good martial arts themed story and Tenjou Tenge looked like it would've been good. Oh well, guess I'll just have to stick with the anime when it comes out in May Anime cry.

EDIT: Just realized I had the wrong release date. It's May, not April.

Time to head over to the CMX message board and let them know how you feel by posting you won't buy it, so others can see too.

I have been waiting for this manga for a while now. I can't believe it has been significantly altered.
Right now, I have no idea whether to buy it or not. I guess I'll just avoid it like everybody else until they change it.

If ADV listened to fans by bringing back the DVD in Newtype, CMX might do the same even if Oh Great! allowed the changes.

Does that mean dubbing is bad and wrong too? Confused

What about hentai that is censored in Japan? Japan edits their anime and manga too ya know?

I'm pissed about this. I'm really disgusted at DC's decision. Has anyone read any of the Vertigo comics stuff? Some of that stuff is pretty graphic. So if they are willing to do Vertigo Comics why would you not be willing to do Tenjou the right way?

The reason is because America is obsessed with the opinions that Anime/Manga is for children. This obsession is uterly obserd. I work with 300+ people who are all 18 or older who are all totally and completely obsessed with Anime. This is the family that I call Otakon staff. Anime isn't just for kids, and this country needs to wake up and smell the coffee. The plastic bag idea, and an 18+ logo on the book would do it more justice. The editing is terrible. I'm glad I've purchased all of the Japanese books since it's obvious DC just cares about "jumping on the bandwagon" they don't care about the fans. They need to talk to companies like Darkhorse that are not afraid to include graphic content. Look at Samurai Executioner. That is one of the most graphic books I've read in a while. Lord knows what will happen if someone tries to licesnse Gantz. I'd really hate to see that torn apart as well.

I want my manga that I am old enough to know what to do. If parents complain about content then they need to learn to be better parents and not let their children read that. It's simple. This country is obsessed with handing the blame off to someone else. The prime example is the Lady that sued McDonalds for hot coffee burning her and flipping WON! Where is the Justice in that? That's common sense. Coffee is hot... For that lady to sue someone for her own stupidity is utterly disgusting. I give up. If I want any satisfaction I'm going to have to learn to read and speak Japanese...

***edit*** This injustice by DC made me sign up to these forums. Shame on them.

One, there is a difference between dubbing(adapting and translating) and censoring. (removal of material)

Two, if the content is severe enough that the censoring doesn't change the fact that the content is mature, but does disrupt the flow of the story (there are very severe scenes later on) then the censoring is a waste of time and frivolous.

Three, it's been proven already that an industry standard of shrinkwrap and stickers works fairly well.

Four, even if hentai is censored in Japan, how does that logically conclude that we should censor things even further in our own country since we don't censor our own porn?

I didn't want to quote your entire post due to its length, but I completely agree with you. Tenjho Tenge was the #1 manga that I wanted to read because I heard such good praise about it, and also I wanted to see how DC handles their new manga line. Unfortunately, the suits at DC decided that it was a "good" idea to "americanize" the title, so I'll pass. Someone from another anime website wrote in their forum that this is "a sad day for manga fans," and I believe that it is. I never thought that a manga would be heavily edited as much as the Sailor Moon and DBZ anime were when they first arrived in North America. DC doesn't edit their Vertigo titles, so what makes them think that editing manga would work? If DC wants to be a major player in the manga market, they better learn to respect manga and leave it in its original form.

However, this won't stop me from watching the TenTen anime when it comes out May 3.

While that may be the case for many, I enjoyed the Ten Ten manga so much (and the really nice artwork) that I actually don't care about the anime that much. It's odd, but the last 2-3 years, I've found myself drawn so much into manga that I think I watch less and read more. Of course, I blame this on Abel. Razz

I find it pretty funny that my old Dragonball volumes from 2000, when Viz's graphic novel size was a bit bigger and Dragonball was one of the early unflipped mangas, were completely uncut, including nudity and swearing.

Heh, take a GOOD LOOK at Mr.Popo. Notice anything missing? =3

They only released volumes 1-10 in the larger, older format before they took a break from the series. Viz re-released them in the smaller format under the Shonen Jump name, then continued on to volumes 11-18. I haven't bought any of the volumes after 10 due to the fact that I'm nearly broke, and any money I have goes towards newer (and better) anime/manga (and video games), so I have not seen any Mr. Popo edits, nor would I likely recognize them as edits, since Viz has been slipping a couple edits past me in Shonen Jump. Embarassed

I whole heartdly agree with your post.

We need to show DC that we can't stand up to crap like this. They have been destrying comics for a long time now, and never even listened to thier own fans.(as said before)

Make a constructlve e-mail, or letter. Join their boards, do something. We will make them here us!

YOU MANIACS!

YOU BLEW IT UP!!!!!

Seriously though, OH!GREAT DRAWS SOME OF THE BEST BOOBIES EVER. Shame on you for covering them up.

It's a 17+ title. I can see their logic in wanting to make it "teen-friendly" but pff to that. I demand my boob shots, good sirs.
