Yeah, the Royals are Kansas City's team (ever heard of I-70 rivalries?). I'm a Cards guy myself, which means I get to watch playoff runs with pretty good consistency.

This column has a few errors:
#1 "Ready Steady Go" by L'Arc-en-Ciel is not on the FMA soundtrack. The first OP, "Melissa" by Porno Graffiti is. #2 Taking 5 seconds off of the clock is hardly a robbery. Everyone knows you can't do anything with 5 seconds unless you do an illegal forward pass on the kickoff return and get away with it. Now homerun throwback, that was a robbery. |

1. Please excuse me while I go hide in the nearest hole I can find. I have absolutely no idea why I did something so stupid except maybe that I have a L'Arc DVD here so I had L'Arc on the mind. Yeesh. 2. Tell that to the Titans. Or the Saints (granted, you have to make the extra point after you score a touchdown that makes it a one-point game). |

Argh, it always pisses me off when a fellow cellist messes up beautiful melodies with no passion. That's the problem with half of the people in my school orchestra: they usually have slightly better technique than me, but they never feel the music. And if it's anything other than classical, like a bit of jazz or orchestral pop, they play as stiff as a board, with no soul at all.

I dunno. I am a cellist, and I really do love the cello in the Tsukihime soundtrack (or to be specific, the music I hear while watching). I never really felt there was a lack of passion in the music. Then again, I don't have the most trained ears... but I have been playing for 7 years now. I'll agree though, that passion and soul is defiently a factor with this type of music though. |

One of the tracks that I listened to, really lacked in the cello department. The rests were really "forced" and the loud notes were really harsh and deliberate. For a piece that was supposed to be grandiose and graceful, it sounded more like textbook playing, rather than playing out of the heart. It was like a student cellist thinking, "Okay, I have to rest here. OH WAIT FORTE. Oh, okay, back to piano. REST!" and playing it as dryly as possible. There was no passion in the playing, there was no soul... the performer was a good cello player, but not a cellist. If you ever get the chance, shut your eyes and just listen to the cellist when you're watching the show. The notes s/he plays are very forced and awkward, especially in the way s/he doesn't bother easing into the rests (on the piece I was listening to) where it was imperative. |

I'll definently try the eyes thing when I get the chance. But for now, I tried listening to the ending theme (assuming they have the same group playing), since that was readily availiable at the moment. Acctually... from listening just now, I think I may know what you mean (it had been a while since I've watched any episodes). Although, in line with the review, I do also notice the other instruments do sound quite a bit more.... passionate than the cello (also, the fact that it does have vocals, the singer I feel way overpowers the entire group at certain parts). Still, the cello (at least in this piece) doesn't quite sound completely void of passion, though less so than the other instruments. What I mean is, it's not something i'd consider unpleasent. I'll probably have to listen to that solo that Jonathan talked about though. That's probably a much better example. Also, I apoligize if my statement of 7 years of playing sounds kinda arrogant. I just re-read it, and it kinda gives off that vibe. I basically just said that to say that I have some experience. I'm not quite excellent, and I still have a long way to go. =P |
