I loved this series it had my hairs standing up. But hey what can you do? People already know by know the differences between manga vs anime. Though I've never read the manga I know it's pretty solid. And I do want to read it! Very Happy

Actually, I have a question regarding the manga. I often see a lot of images depicting 'Henrietta' as a sort of loose cannon. Kind of like what happens when a person snaps and goes all "ballistic" on your ass. Which did happen in the anime but it was a little less hectic. Like the scene in ep. 1 and the scene at the restaurant in ep. 2. That whole deal made my jaw almost fall off. Shocked Smile Laughing

The animation on that one was great! Smooth! Very Happy Cool
But the imagery I see she always has this derranged look on her face.

Can anyone tell me if such events do occur like that in the manga? Or does this imagery only relate to fanart interpretation based off the manga? Confused

I'm a bit late on this one, I know, but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents on the issue anyways. I agree with the common statement in this thread in that I don't agree with the review. But really, what is a review but one persons opinion? No matter how objective a person tries to be in the end it is still their opinion and their personal tastes primarily influence that.

However, the comments I see about the loli porn is stretching it alot because it seems to me that GSG tries specifically to avoid that end of it in the anime rather than cater to it. Part of what I like about GSG is the morality issues and the way the anime approaches it from a no nonsense point of view. It is a rather dark and cold anime, but so are many aspects of the world we live in and an anime willing to dwell into that side of humanity and society is more of a plus than a minus to me.

If the person who wrote this review is a fan of Evangelion, they must be the biggest hypocrite in the world. EVA is an extremely cruel series, possibly even crueler than GSG given that the main characters have complete emotional responses to their torture, and yet everyone praises that series as a classic. And when a new series (Gunslinger Girl) shows up without a reputation (and without fanservice and mecha, aspecta which seem to throw a lot of EVA's more casual fanbase off-course from the plot) and portrays cruelty in a very similar way, it gets bashed to pieces in most reviews! I've only read the first 2 manga volumes and seen the first 3 episodes at Anime Boston, but from what I've seen it is an amazing series that manages to tell a tragic and violent story without seeming heartless as other similar animes (Saikano and Elfen Lied, for example) have. Lolicon? Hardly! Yeah sure, you have your Alfred R. Khans in the world who might call it "sexy", but do you honestly think that they make up most of the show's target audience? As for Gundam, the poster who was against it actually had it in reverse. I saw the "giant robot destruction" gimmick as a clever mask covering up the much grimmer truths of it. Anyway, that's just my 2 cents on the issue.

Man, is that a loaded statement. It's untrue as well, but that's for another discussion.

Also, GSG has not been bashed in the reviews. It is a very well-done show. Those who find problems with it most probably have issues involving not the execution, but what is brought to the table, which has been thoroughly documented in this thread.

Like I said earlier, you aren't supposed to "like" Gunslinger Girl. You can enjoy it, but not like it.

That is right. However, if I were to review a show like that, I'd recommend watching it, just never rewatching it. That review recommended never watching it period, and that's mostly what I have against the review.

I really enjoyed the post where the guy insulted anyone who has ever viewed, defended, heard of, known someone who may have had a friend who liked this series as perverted, sick bastards. Congratulations buddy, sure, you don't like the series, but I think it is a good idea to avoid the personal insults towards others with a VERY different opinion than you. Personally, I think that if all you can think about is the "sexual" implications of the show, than you would be the one with the problem.

I really never had an issue or problem watching this show. Pretty much the last thing that came to mind were the issues that you said attracted people like me to the show. I'm trying to keep this short so I don't start ranting, but I am honestly really upset at that post, I don't really think I can express it in words at the moment.

Actually I'm one of those people who thinks that NGE is the one of the best anime series ever. The rest of the post has been addressed by others.

And I would point out that I just didn't endorse the series, even though it did have good qualities. I did not recommend against watching it. Not the same thing.

I think this review is completely biased and i cant put this idea out of my mind that the reviewer gave it a "B" average score because he finds the story "repugnant" that right there should give him another movie to review.

There is nothing wrong with this anime i could name many worse (hentai comes to mind) The story is well done and its more about the relationship between the Agent and their Fratello instead of their killing prowress. Much like how a Father relates to his own daughter.

After reading the whole review the person reviewing this dvd clearly disapproves of this movie yet he gives it an above average grade is there anyway somone can redo this review because obviously some people cant handle mature content with an unbiased view.

First of all, you are questioning a review from June of 2005. It's a bit late to complain about it now. Secondly, you didn't read the review for the second volume which is actually very favourable. And not only that but a B grade is hardly anything to gripe about. Also, if you don't like the review, well its ok to disagree, once again not so much a year and a half later, but if you really want a new review why don't you write one yourself.

If you do, remember it's a series not a movie, that will be important. And let me warn you, not everyone will like it, and who knows, a year and a half from now maybe someone will write a comment about how wrong you were.

Even though reviewers, for the most part, try not to be subjective, it can be hard, but I think this review actually did a great job in grading objectively despite particular distastes.

I am a huge fan of Gunslinger Girl, I think the series is phenomenal. Do I expect everyone including reviewers who are trying to be objective to agree? Never. This series in particular, with the subject matter and the way it was marketed, will always turn about contrary opinions from just about anyone watching it.
