What's really horrible is that they changed Doremi's name. Doremi. The main character. Whose name is in the freaking title. *smacks 4Kids*

The English dub is officially the ONLY one to change Doremi's name.

Where's the Doremi pun now, you ask?

Dorie (Doremi's dub name)
Reanne (Hazuki's dub name)
Mirabelle (Aiko's dub name)

...*sighs* My favorite mahou shoujo series has been killed it seems. I'll try to be open about the dub, but I haven't seen anything so far that's good.

Jesus Tapdancing Christ! This is only a preview episode and already you're throwing the series under the bus. Can't you at least wait before you make your empty statements?

Yes, he "hates Japan", the country that made him a millionare.

4Kids Entertainment's stock price seems to be holding steady. It's gone down from a high peak in March, but it's still almost 5 dollars per share higher now than it was this time last year.

Also, according to their Annual Report, their earnings exceeded $100 Million for the 2003 fiscal year. Thats not chump change and right now, I don't see them being in trouble financially.

Motley Fool agrees:

Quote:
Yet even so, what we have here is a company that, over an extended period of time, has earned an average of $1.22, and that's selling for just 16 times that number -- while carrying half of its market value in cash. As bad a picture as the recent earnings report paints, 4Kids has demonstrated long-term staying power and seems unlikely to depart the markets any time soon. Meanwhile, its $130 million cash hoard should enable it to wait out the storm until it finds the next big winner.

Also, this analysis was done in May. In the months following, KDE stock prices have stabilized nicely, holding at around $20 a share.

Al Khan isn't going to be "locallize" (sic) any boxes anytime soon.

Aww... Doremi makes me so happy. I'm just glad it's getting a state side release. Hopefully, it will make others happy now too.

Awww, that's so sweet, linlin. I wish other people on this thread were as open-minded and hopeful as you.

I'm still somewhat open-minded, but as I said, I haven't seen much hope for it.

I personally think 4Kids does a good job with their titles. Not a stellar job, mind you, but fairly well considering the changes needed to show them on American TV.

And sitewise, I think the 4KidsTV layout is spiffy. Tons better than a lot of other kids sites. Black backgrounds, dozens of pop-ups, and annoying floaty mascots that follow your cursor around . . . etc.

I've never seen any DoReMi, but it looks cute as heck. I'll have to see it some time.

Well I never watched Doremi, or have I ever read the manga, but I really hope 4Kids does a good job with the dubbing. The only good Dub I can remember 4Kids doing a decent job with is Poke'Mon. I might watch Doremi.

I'm interested to see how this all turns out. I've been waiting years for Doremi to come over to the states, and while I had a shock over "Mirabelle" (not what I would have named her...), so far everything looks all right. I even like the theme song, though it has nothing on Ojamajo Carnival. ^_~
With the songs from Tokyo Mew Mew and Doremi, is there going to be a CD coming out?

why stick up for 4kids?

they ruin anime and try to make it a joke
look at one piece (they have cut 30 episods)
and khan does hate on japan, he thinks anime is only for adults
and all the ones 4kids take are now their "cartoons"
F,N cramp twins is a cartoon not one piece
they remove everything japanese from thier shows because they think stupid amercan kids wont understand it even though there are cartoons like hi hi puffy ami and teen titans which embrace japan and do well so all that crap about japanese culture being bad for american kids is bull$hit

and about that stuff about khan living in a box it was just wishfull thinking
but if he did live in a box i would punch him in the ears first(for all the bad dubed over music) and then kick him in his face
i hate that japan hating a$$hole

Well, because, ignorant or not, they have been and still are making a lot of money, and if that's happening, then they must be doing something correctly. (Even I will occasionally debate if what they're doing is "right")

Oh, and if your statement about Kahn thinking that all anime is for adults is correct, then he's a better man than a lot of people who think all cartoons gare just for kids, or think that all anime is porn. Way to put a hole in your own arguement.

So, we all know everybody's opinions on 4Kids right now, so here's the real question: How many of you actually watched or wanted to watch Doremi to begin with? I know I haven't watched it before and I'll probably watch it about as much as I watch other magical girl shows (read: infrequently at best) but that's about it.

Well, I have. It's aired on YoYo TV dubbed, and the dubbing is quite nice, although I don't have a chance to watch it subbed. Aside from the repetetive transformation sequence (it's a mahou shoujo show, after all), the story is funny and cute, with much character development and emphasis on dealing with people's relationships -- somewhat educational.

It's popularity is overwhelming here in Taiwan -- even more so then the glorious days of Sailor Moon. I've seen a little girl wearing a pair of sandals with those little witches -- although I doubt it's a genuine licensed merchandise.
