I don't know if this is where you ask these kind of questions but
I was wondering what the msnm button actually does.

Where is this "msnm" button you speak of located? I've done a bit of research and I imagine your talking about phpBB coding.

I've looked at all the possible forum "buttons" (actually these "buttons" are called HTML and occasionally BBcode coding) but can't seem to find anything that resembles what you are talking about.

Are you talking about the tabs at the top of ANN (i.e. News, views, etc)? As I've looked in each of those tabs and found nothing as well.

Going to need some more information so I can possibly derive an answer for you.

Although truth be told, this is likely a question best left for Dan42, as he likely would be able to provide you with a much better answer in this instance.

He's talking about this button:

Unlike or , the MSN Messenger (or Windows Live Messenger) button does not open the proprietary software, but simply redirects you to the user's profile page. I have no idea why either but it doesn't bother me.

Dormcat: I thought he might be talking about msn messenger but I really wasn't sure.

I've never used that button before, let alone really noticed that button before today. Very interesting.

I'm pretty sure phpBB3 does something more worthwhile when you click on it; phpBB2 just redirects to your profile where your msn email is just displayed as plain text.

Yeah, that's the one I'm talking about. So it's supposed to send
a kind of message?

I think it does in phpBB3, but on phpBB2 it just redirects you to their profile to view their MSN SN.

Okay, thank you. The reason I wanted to know was because I
accidently clicked on a msnm button and I was worried I'd sent
some kind of weird message.
