Cutie Honey the Live - the tv series was actually a pretty good adaptation.
It had a fair amount of drama, character development and the fight choreography was excellent. Of course, there were plenty of campy moments, but it wasn't all about that, unlike the movie (which seemed to be making fun of the franchise sometimes). And yeah, Mikie Hara was a better Honey (and prettier). |

Sorry, but Sennin Buraku had it beat by an entire decade, and featured nipples to boot. Marvelous Melmo also readily comes to mind as a slightly earlier title with more than just Barbie-doll style nudity. Cutey Honey's biggest contributions to fanservice anime were Go Nagai's ecchi style humor, and establishing the "Panty Fighter" subgenre which blends action and fanservice in roughly equal measure. Nearly forty years have passed, yet both are still going strong, much to the chagrin of many. |
