At 51 votes the average is down to 30, so I'd say it's pretty stable. 35% at 20-24. That one is kind of a surprise. Taking over the internet, are we?

Brief statistics lesson on data in groups for people other than egoist:
m = median of each group, found by averaging the starting value of successive ranges of responses
(e.g.: 14-16 group is followed by 17-19 group, so (14+17)/2 = 15.5 )
median(m)..votes(v)...m*v
15.5...............4............62
18.5...............5............92.5
22.5.............20..........450
27.5..............6...........165
32.5..............6...........195
37.5..............6...........225
42.5..............1.............42.5
47.5..............2.............95
55.................5...........275
65.................3...........195
===================
.......................total=1797
n = number of responses = 58
Average age = [sum(m*v)]/n = 30.98
In data sets where the average is not near the middle of the data, we sometimes use the median to give us a better idea of central tendency. If we had the data, we could arrange it from low to high and simply identify the middle value as the median. But again grouped data makes it slightly more challenging. We have 58 responses, so the median would be the 29.5th response, which is the average of the 29th and 30th responses. median = ( n+1 ) / 2
Here we'll introduce the column "cumulative votes" which include votes for that age range and all ranges that occur prior to it.
median(m)..votes(v)...cumulative votes (c)
15.5................4.......................4
18.5................5.......................9
22.5..............20.....................29
27.5................6.....................35
32.5................6.....................41
37.5................6.....................47
42.5................1.....................48
47.5................2.....................50
55...................5.....................55
65...................3.....................58
So based on this chart, the 29th response occurs in the 20-24 range and the 30th response occurs in the 25-29 range. Since we don't know the actual ages of these votes, we instead take the average of the medians of the two groups.
Then: median = (22.5+27.5)/2 = 25
(if the median is within a single group, then we create a linear equation using the endpoints to predict where the median is)
Thus we have: (highlighted for those who just care about this part)
>>>Forum user poll (at this moment there are 58 responses)
average age: approximately 31
median age: approximately 25
I think the number of people we have in the 50-59 range may be raising the averages a bit.

So that means that some of the posts that have photos of female anime characters may actually belong to a male user...? I wonder why this is the case...? |
I think the answer to that should be obvious.

TitanXL--
What you think is obvious is not so to others.

I am in the 20-24, turning 22 rather soon.
I am happy to see there are so many in the upper age group, tells me that there is nothing wrong with me keeping the hobby through later.

With 30 more people voting since the last time we calculated statistics, the mean is now 29.19 years.
median(m)..votes(v)...m*v
15.5...............6................93
18.5...............11............203.5
22.5.............29..............652.5
27.5..............11.............302.5
32.5..............10.............325
37.5..............8...............300
42.5..............3...............127.5
47.5..............2.................95
55.................5...............275
65.................3...............195
===================
...........................total=2569
n = number of responses = 88
Average age = [sum(m*v)]/n = 29.19 years
Also, the median age is 20.59 years. This may be the more important statistic in measuring ages of members.

It may also be a generational trend. You may find in 10 years that the poll results change.
I'm 23

Wow, I'm surprised that my age bracket (17-19) is very much in the minority, which is very different from the other main forum that I'm on (TFW2005), where the under 20's basically own most of the site.
Oh, and I'm 17 btw.

Nbahn, you know you shouldn't be recommending mature rated titles to minors.

I am actually 23 in real life, going on 24, which judging by the results of this poll really shouldn't be that much of a surprise for anyone. That being said, for the longest time I was actually convinced that I was getting old. I guess everyone goes through that idea that we're too old to enjoy something, but fortunately having to give up anime hasn't exactly been the thing I was afraid of. While I was surprised by the presence of so many older fans, I'm quite happy to see everyone here.

There's plenty to make a young man(or woman) feel old if you look. I remember when it was common to pay after you pumped your gas, back when it was under $2 a gallon(for some reason $1.57 is the figure that comes to mind). Of course, I was just a tyke at the time, but still.
