Mexico. It's kind of sad, being so close to the States, where there's such a huge Anime licensing industry, and having none. Except Saint Seiya and Ghibli, those stuffs get licensed in a flash (I was surprised to see that Poppy Hill was already available in DVD in a local store).

We used to have a fairly decent manga licensor around 10 years ago, they made very beautiful editions (my Clover manga is imho the most prettiest shit I own), but they went bankrupt around five years ago and stopped releasing new stuff. As for anime, there used to be a lot of it when I was kid, even in national television (Pokemon, Digimon, Sakura, Sailor Moon. I think one of the national TV chains is still rerunning DBZ for the millionth time). There was an anime channel called Locomotion too, which eventually got bought by Sony and became Animax and then eventually became Sony Spin and stopped being anime at all.

Bottom Line. Mexico. Where licensed anime is so close and yet so far

I'm guessing importing stuff from the US isn't really doable then? I am in kind of a similar position in the UK. We get a fraction of what the US gets, and even then it's mostly booby shows because they sell. It's quite possible to import if you know how though. All our manga is US imports as well, although Viz have started distributing their stuff properly here.

I suppose importing is doable -if I could import stuff from Japan, doing it from the US shouldn't be such a challenge- but I've never really tried to do it because I know shipping fees are insane, and paying in dollars is basically unaffordable. OTOH, there's also the rare occassion in which you find imported manga in some conventions, usually from Spanish publishers (Norma and Glenat) and sometimes from Viz, but the pricing is ridiculous, it's definitely not worth it. I once saw one FMA manga volume going for around 40 dollars.

@ st_owly

Looks like we are neck and neck. I was at 276. I didn't keep track of the manhwa this year. Most of it seems to have been lost due to the manga bubble bursting.

Considering I don't plan on buying anything else anime-related for the rest of this week, I guess I'll round up what I spent for this first month of 2013. Unless I say otherwise, all purchases include shipping.

The Dog of Flanders Subbed VHS- $32.95
Dagger of Kamui VHS- $4.64
Kimagure Orange Road OVAs- $25.97
Fancy Lala Individual Volumes- $43.09
A Journey Through Fairyland VHS- $8.59

Lupin III: Dragon of Doom- $18.86
Fantastic Adventures of Unico- $13.42

Compared with January 2012's total of $153.71, my expenses are heading in the right direction -- down. Smile

I'm pretty pleased with myself for January. I didn't really go overboard.

Manga - $148.08
Anime - $32.49
Figures - $80.51
Misc. - $22.70

January Total - $283.78

That's the cheapest month I've had in well over a year. For a bit I held out hope that I'd actually keep it under $200, but then some Rightstuf orders came due, so it wasn't to be. But I still kept it under $300, and I'm really pleased with that. A big part of it is getting my figure buying under control. I'm trying for the most part to limit myself to 1 figure a month, so I try and make it something I really really want, and not just a figure that looks decent.

Ah man, my bank went and pulled some silly shenanigans where they posted a charge to my account in January, but they didn't do it until really late on February 1st. As such, my manga total has another $19.86 on it, thus putting me at $303.64 for the month. And here I was, thinking I was under $300 Sad Still the cheapest month I've had in well over a year though.
