Your definition of "mature" is incorrect. While not meant for children, BLOOD-C is in no way a mature show.

Yep. Definitely TMI.

Personally, I found the ending to "Blood-C" to be positively brilliant.

The anime market is oversaturated with shows that just settle for being "cute girls with dark alter egos who kill things", and use that to peter into a nice, tidy little conclusions that leaves everybody with a good taste in their mouths. Sure, that's nice, and it makes for some solid, B-Grade work.

However, the writers and director of this series decided to take a bold artistic risk at the end of the series, and actively try to infuriate viewers who had stuck with the show. Instead of leaving them satisfied, it left them angry, upset and confused. Compared to 90 percent of the junk released today, "Blood-C" was a breath of fresh air with its refusal to make fans happy and pander to the status quo.

If the end made you angry and left you with questions, then the creators got what they wanted. This is just my two cents, and I figure plenty of people will disagree. But yeah, I really loved the show, and I can't wait to see "The Last Dark."

Without giving too much away, the writers pretty much just stand up and say, “JUST KIDDING!!!” and everything you thought you knew or felt about the series up until this point is thrown into the wind. Importantly, this also includes Saya's emotional reactions to the events in the series, which does a great deal in building her character. But if those are negated, then what has been accomplished? Nothing. It's all a gigantic waste of time.

It boggles the mind why they would do something like this. What's the point exactly? Why make something good and then do the stupid "It was all a dream!" thing?
Some could argue it's to make money from the movie. I feel that it was to brutally deconstruct modern "girls with swords" anime, which usually ends on a nice little tidy note. By contrast, "Blood-C" proudly flips the bird to viewers and destroys everything you've gotten used to. It's an elaborate prank, and a brilliant one, in my opinion.

I've seen all the episodes of Blood-C, but it wasn't particularly memorable. Oh, the gore and the plot twist, that's memorable, but not for the right reasons. Doesn't that just say it all? It made no impact on me whatsoever.

I would have put [C] on the perishable list as well. I didn't like it at all which is a shame because it sounded interesting.

Out of the core cast of eleven, there are three younger than sixteen: Yoshika, age 15; Sanya, age 14 and Lucchini, age 13. Your complaint is with the artstyle.

I liked Strike Witches season 2. It had more of the fun, excellent music, well-choreographed action scenes and neat military references I liked about the first season, if a weaker overarching plot. I agree with the Rental Shelf categorisation. As with the first season, episode six was the sweetest and most enjoyable. (Also as with the first season, the next episode was a huge switch to fanservicey silliness.)

I only watched Blood-C about a week before I read this article, and thought it was a wonderfully entertaining series, but not for the right reasons. The action scenes were great, and I did like the art, but even the entertainment value there was pushed to the background by the sheer failure of Saya to save anyone. The total lack of plausibility of character's emotional responses was entertaining as well. I found the big twist kind of dumb, but it did explain the stupidity of the earlier episodes somewhat, and I think that levelled the series out to a decent overall. It was an effective use of fighting fire with fire in that it made the series as a whole less stupid and redundant.

*Sigh* I miss the days of Blood+. Don't care what anyone says, that was a swell show.

I'll second this - "Blood+" is one of my favourite action anime serials. The central character is a capable female female that isn't the object of crass fan service, the show spent time to develop the various characters of the show and their personal motivations, and the show certainly didn't mind killing off important characters, which added a great deal of suspense to the show. It might have been a bit slow at times, but the show actually made me care about what happened to the characters.

Seeing as how Control only has 11 episodes, one or two less from a normal season, it really sounds like the studio lost their budget and had to give it a rush ending. Which is funny, considering the subject matter.

It was a noitaminA show, so [C] having eleven episodes was planned from the start. Budget doesn't come into it. If the ending seemed rushed, that's because the writing was grossly incompetent, not because the show ran out of money and had to finish early.

noitaminA blunder. Gotcha.

Back to Blood-Crap, I checked out the first eight minutes of the movie Last Dark, and it does look like she'll be back to her old roots in that one. Whether or not whatever the hell happened in the TV series will play a major role in the movie is questionable. Here's hoping not.

As for Strike Witches, they...they always look really, really young. I mean, they are, but...God! Makes me squick.

At first, I was going to put Blood-C in the Rental Shelf bin, because I genuinely enjoyed the middle five episodes of the series. But then I thought about how much I disliked the first five and loathed the last two, and realized that if I actively disliked over 50% of the show, that it would be ridiculous to really recommend this to anyone.

Wow, sounds just like my opinion of Blood+. There were some episodes in the middle I really liked, but the beginning and end were so awful that it didn't matter in the end.

Also, similar complaints about Strike Witches 2. At least it had the episode where (what's her name, it's been a while...) the tan girl saves the princess, or whatever she was. That one almost felt like a magical girl plot.

I liked [C] a lot, but I don't know why. Ultimately I think the show would've benefited a lot from being long, but what can you do.

Raising a middle finger to the audience isn't exactly clever. It takes more daring than a safe route, but how much was a super-star collective like CLAMP actually risking?

If it wants to mock bland "cute girls killing ugly things" action series, just pulling the rug out at the last second isn't a great way to do it. I'm reminded of Zettai Shougeki: Platonic Heart (aka Master of Martial Hearts) which seems to be doing a pretty boring "power of friendship!" story until the last episode where suddenly nothing that came before matters and it goes crazy.

Bait-and-switch on its own isn't anything to admire. "It was all an act!" isn't much better than "it was all a dream!"

No, my complaint is what I said it was with thank you very much. Not with what YOU decide it is. You can disagree with me if you want I don't mind, Don't try and shove words in my mouth though or tell me what I am thinking. That I do have a problem with.

Sorry, jeez. I figured that since you'd been given an inaccurate idea of the characters' ages, the only thing that causes that misconception was to blame. So your complaint is that no one in the cast is college age or at least 16+, then?

My first exposure to Blood-C was at Daryl Surat's Anime's Craziest Deaths panel at Otakon last year. God, talk about a rough first impression of the show, I seriously thought about walking out of the panel room after those clips but thankfully I stuck it out.

Still, I look at Blood-C and I just have to ask, why, why did the writers and directors feel like they had to go so far with those scenes at the end of the series? Its a problem that I have with the horror genre in general, because too often I think directors feel like they have to go over the top (Final Destination and various torture porn flicks) in order to scare things. While I have not seen the fourth movie, I like the Paranormal Activity series because it strings you along, its not over the top and overall it just feels more believable than someone getting killed at a race track with a flying race-car tire that comes from basically out of nowhere.

My friend said it best when we were talking about those scenes later, I don't find CLAMP-designed girls getting graphically eviscerated to be at ALL appealing, same could be said for the Noizo Ito designed characters of Another (I have seen a compilation of all the death scenes). Had this show been more in line with the designs of Blood Plus or perhaps similar to Death Note, I could live with it, but the fact it uses the CLAMP designs just makes me wonder how far are they willing to sell out to have female characters they design just become cannon fodder (just look at Code Geass).

In all, this is one I will be avoiding like the plague, the movie as well. And I second what one person said about Blood Plus, its not amazing but I think I would take that 100 times over what Blood-C has turned that franchise into. Plus, didn't that have a not-so-happy ending?

Well when you put it that way, it makes sense in a twisted prank sort of view. However, I still think they could have done it differently. What's an example of a "girls with swords" anime that ends on a tidy note?

"It was all an act!" is much better than "It was all a dream". Hideo Kojima already made it with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and it left the main character Raiden to discover that his girlfriend, Rosemary, was just an agent assigned to keep an eye on Raiden. It wasn't a middle finger to the players since even Raiden could not believe some weird things happening in the story (his girlfriend working on a topsecret mission, weapons left for him, similarities with Shadow Moses, etc) but was told to go with the flow. It left room for further characterization about Rosemary as well as Raiden questioning what exactly is reality. It's too bad that Saya never wonders anything. She just fights some monsters without blaming anybody after the huge revelation.

Ev en I who do like this show, found a lot of the last episodes death scenes to be incredibly, incredibly disturbing, there's a lot of messed up crap when the white and red monsters come out, I think there was a way they could do a massacre tastefully without the kind of really disturbing stuff they did at the end,

As I've said before I went into this show not knowing anything about it except that it's tied in with the Blood series itself. But seriously, I have to ask the people who could not see this coming, I mean really did you not think there was something slightly suspicious with how Fumito offered Tadayoshi something else? For those claiming they screwed you all over with the ending, why were you not paying attention, you could clearly see that this was a bit of an act. I mean this isn't Deus Ex Machina type stuff, the clues are all there if you look hard enough.
