While looking through my collection last night, I did take notice of the odd path Funimation has chosen. This was most evident to me with titles like Hellsing Ultimate, Shiki, and Steins;Gate being blu-ray sized, and the recent Tenchi boxes being DVD sized. I can't say I understand the logic behind that, and I can certainly see how it would frustrate those that are sensitive to that level of inconsistency.

The Tenchi Blurays being in DVD sized cases makes an odd sort of sense. At the same time they are issuing other portions of the franchise in DVD only. This way you get some uniformity in this group of related titles.

Of course, I may be overthinking this and it is a simple screwup. Very Happy

I think Alan is on the right track here. They more than likely made the Tenchi BDs the same size as the DVD-only releases so that there'd be uniformity between them. One thing they're really trying to push with these releases is a sense of a collection, what with the similar styled layouts and the star charts on the back.

Ah, yes, that makes sense. I hadn't considered that.

When Scientific Rail Gun first came out like decades ago here in Taiwan, I really loved it. Now, I dont think I will get it because Im not interested in the series anymore.

Everything on here is just re-releases. Although I love the cover of rosario-vampire capu2. Nothin here for me.

Jesus, dude. I'm used to FUNimation's delays by now, but five months? That's a long freakin' time. Confused

At least they didn't pull a Media Blasters and delay it the week before release.

Whoah huge delay. Reverse importing coming into effect here? I don't mind though, frees up a tiny bit of space for my spring wishlist Laughing .

From a marketing standpoint, is Fam a large, popular, or otherwise significant enough property for us to sensibly posit the notion that they are delaying these releases in order to add more goodies to the sets?

Yeah, this sounds like something on the Japanese side for it to be that big of a delay. I dont really see what other excuse they would have unless they got a big release coming up shortly after that may overshadow it.

I just got an order from Rightstuf today; some items shipped that I'd ordered along with my preorder of Railgun. On the invoice, it said

Certain Scientific Railgun, A Season 1 DVD Part 1 (Hyb) Limited Edition
Certain Scientific Railgun, A Season 1 DVD Part 2 (Hyb)
GIFT WITH PURCHASE CANCELED

I guess I'll manage somehow since I don't recall ever hearing what the free gift would be, but that's still a bit disappointing.

The Railgun gift item was canceled at the manufacturer's level. It can't be helped I guess.

Standard edition (alt SKU) is up @ TRSI for Freezing: Complete Collection (Blu-ray / DVD Combo). MSRP: $64.98. Release date is pretty much now (as you will/should be shipping soon).
