Box 1 episodes 1-54 (cdjapan.co.jp)

Box 2 episodes 55-108 (cdjapan.co.jp)

Box 3 episodes 109-161 (cdjapan.co.jp)

Is this true? I can't find anything other than these about them. Where's the official press release?

Animeigo's UY DVDs aren't exactly known for their sparkling video quality. Constant ghosting (I think I was kind with the screenshots, I could have shown ghosting for just about any shot with motion), compression artifacts all over the place, EE, DNR, composite masters, the whole package. So it wouldn't be hard to improve upon them. I forget if the R2 UYTV DVDs even used component masters; they were certainly released long enough ago that composite masters wouldn't be surprising. But they have to be better than AE's release. Even AE's LD box of the first 40 episodes was better.

Anyway, I'd say the UYTV BDs look very good. No grain reduction or EE that I can see. Far less cropped than the R1 DVDs. I don't think an over 30 year old, 16mm TV series could have looked much better.

45360yen times 3 is literally 'one house payment'
150 episodes is alot of anime, though

what do you mean is it true? we dont live in japan so we wouldnt get an 'official' japanese press release. the series is being re-released on blu-ray in japan, but I fear that means viz media in america will have no future rights with the series.

I figure it at $1441+ for all three Ranma 1/2 boxes. More to the point, the link to CD Japan reports that while it is region free it has no subtitles. If you do not understand Japanese you are out of luck.

Wow, the color correction on those UY images is astounding. There's also a ton more image revealed because it's not cropped off for old overscan TVs. Grainy as all hell, but that's to be expected of a low budget 1981 series. If someone resubs the entire series using BDrips, I'll give it a rewatch. Or maybe the important select episodes. There's definitely no way we're getting any of these sets here, so maybe we can pray they do BDs for the films and we get those?

What I meant was obviously the Japanese press release announcing them. I can't find any where, the closest are news.goo.ne.jp and amass.jp which don't seem to me as "official press" such as from Pony Canyon. These are the closest I could find with searching "らんま1/2 Blu-ray" and "らんま1/2 Bluray" at Yahoo's and Google's co.jp sites.

The geneon japan release for railgun on blu-ray is slated for this JULY
the asking price is 28,560 JPY
I guess that's why we got the mediocre funimation release here

FUNimation has stated in the past that the failure of the Ouran High School Host Club BD (DVD performed very well) was the main reason that they didn't pursue Blu-ray rights for Index and Railgun. The reason doesn't make much sense, but it's the only thing that has been provided publicly on the matter (that I know of).

Other things to consider...
- We don't know if Blu-ray rights were available back then and/or even now.
- Does FUNimation really want to release the series on Blu-ray? If the DVD sales flop, they may not even consider it.
