I was absolutely invested in the actual characters, their friendship, and the music they made together. That is the only reason I watched the show. (I am straight, idk if that matters.) |
Which is why I'm sad Zac didn't review Photo Kano, which is actually about voyeurism

As for the review argument. I like it when you have reviewers that exactly have a history with a certain genre review shows from it. I don't like moe obviously and well I'm mostly going to turn a blind eye to shows that look like it, so I'm going to fall in with fans that have that similar viewpoint. So when they say something like Magical Maodoka is a good show, a show that when I look at the character designs I'm turned off. I say to myself "well I gotta check this out now".
I mean yeah it makes sense to desire reviewers who review certain genre's to well actually have a ok history with the genre. I mean it kind of works, but I also feel that the fans who cry for this really just mean "we want the reviewers to be like me"

I am not really sure to feel or respond right now. It would actually involve me going into massive detail of my own personal experience with moe.

Also, no offense, but Haughton seems very...awkward in the podcast.
...Actually, both him and Zac feel awkward. Watching this is an...experience.

To be honest, I'd love to get a female moe fan's perspective on moe and the concepts surrounding it. I've actually been seeking a female moe fan who's willing to write for Taskforce MOE because I feel like that's a perspective that isn't explored nearly as much as the perspective of male moe fans (And it's debatable how much that perspective is truly explored), so I apologize for the lack of discussion about non-male moe fans. I can only truly represent myself, and I don't feel like I have the kind of knowledge to speak on behalf of non-male moe fans, nor would even if I felt like I did.
Though, if any non-male moe fans are willing to step up and lend their perspective to the discussion, I'd welcome that. |
Hi, I guess I am sort of a female moe fan. (The questions read during the podcast by @ribbonknight were submitted by me, so that gives you an idea of where I'm at.)
I like K-ON!, Tari Tari, & Hanasaku Iroha. I'm watching AKB0048 right now & like it a lot.
(I'm uninterested in writing for your site, sorry.)

Zac isn't the first person I've heard the voyeurism angle from concerning K-ON!, in particular. In this type of anime, the viewer's presence is completely irrelevant. If K-ON! was an anime with pantyshots all over the place and the camera focusing in on them (I.E. "Male Gaze"), that would be voyeuristic, but K-ON! isn't that kind of show. The characters aren't girls you're looking at through a keyhole. It's more like you are the room that Yui, Mio, Ritsu, Mugi, and Azusa are eating cake and drinking tea in. Nobody's trying to arouse or please the room. Things are happening, but the room is just there, existing, but irrelevant to the events.
If that makes any sense.

That's exactly why it's a great dub.

Bible Black is...ok? For what it is? Can no one reference anything just a tad more recent, ever?

Nah, I think Bible Black is pretty bad. That dub though is pretty funny. And no I can't think of anything recent, because I'm not a hentai expert. Sorry.
Though I do get a chuckle from those hentai's from that dude who obviously liked The Bourne sequel movies and wanted apply their "awesome" camera style to porn.

F*** It, can I really ask you all question that is bothering the hell out of me??? When did the term moe replace "cute & innocent" for character traits??
