If you're going to make fun of hentai like Nightshift Nurses, you should take a lesson from http://www.ecchi-attack.com/main.shtml. (Must be 18 to read it.) Oh, and what's with the mouse balls article? This is an anime dvd recommendation section, not a Penthouse letters column. [/i]

I don't recall trying to make fun of Night Shift Nurses 2 at all. I was simply stating my shock and utter surprise at what was depicted in it. On the other hand, I'm not sure I'd want to take any lessons from a site that requires you to be at least 18.
ANN is a family-friendly site. If you think that the mouse balls article was pornographic, perhaps you should get your mind out of the gutter and stop reading 18+ sites about hentai and porn.

I would just like to say that I appreciated your bothering with the umlaut in ueber (I'm not because I haven't gotten a German typing applet on this Computer yet and it's late at night), so many people forget it.

"On the other hand, I'm not sure I'd want to take any lessons from a site that requires you to be at least 18."

Because it would alienate 13 year old viewers? =p

Sorry, I got the impression that you were implying something else when you were talking about giving oral stimulation to a plastic phallic object. Perhaps that was just a Freudian slip on your part. =p

Like those people who criticize FLCL for allowing the chick to eat a popsicle. There really is only one way to eat a popsicle. I suppose you could exert the energy to walk over to the tap and rinse your mouse ball under the water, but saliva is so much more readily available.

Phallic: (from Dictionary.com) Of, relating to, or resembling a phallus.
Popsicle = phallus. Mouse ball =/= phallus.

Sakechan: "Like those people who criticize FLCL for allowing the chick to eat a popsicle."

Um no, because most people do not put their tongue on plastic objects.

"I suppose you could exert the energy to walk over to the tap and rinse your mouse ball under the water, but saliva is so much more readily available."

And unsanitary.

"Phallic: (from Dictionary.com) Of, relating to, or resembling a phallus."

A testicle is related to a phallus. A mouse ball resembles a testicle(albeit one from someone who's not as endowed as others).

Hmmm...it's like you seem to have just discovered that Shelf Life has little introductions at the beginning of the column...
I find the blurbs entertaining and a good lead-in to the tone of Shelf Life.
In general, I find Shelf Life really entertaining. It makes me want to read about what anime titles I should purchase with my hard-earned money. There are enough "cut and dry" anime reviews out there. It's nice to have a little humor. (I really enjoyed the artistic illustrations for the review of Nightshift Nurses) Smile

Perhaps it was more your Freudian slip in thinking that the mouse ball resembled a phallic (and quite a small one, at that...) object. Wink

Hmm... I wonder which cat anime is trippier, Cat Soup or Tamala 2010: A Punk Cat in Space? I've only seen the latter, at Fantasia in August, but some of the imagery in that film is so weird I can now honestly report that it's even made cameo appearances in my dreams, specifically her "mother", the woman on the viewscreen at the beginning with the snake. At this point, Tamala 2010 is the trippiest cartoon I've seen since about Dr. Snuggles or, perhaps, Twilight Q, which I simply must watch again.

I did also see Sakura Wars: The Movie at Fantasia, while I was very impressed by the launch sequence with the Thunderbirds homage and the steampunk locomotive thingie, overall, I'm afraid I found it to be rather a snoozer, probably due to the fact I have never played the games nor have I seen the OVAs or TV series and there's a lot of character interactions, especially during the lengthy denouement, that would be of no interest if you don't know who they are because there's no exposition for the established characters whatsoever.

For the people that are keeping count, I, myself, wash my mouse ball in the sink, though I should add that there's a secondary washroom in the basement of our bungalow, not too far from my computers, so it's not like I have to climb stairs to get to a sink. Though, more often, if my mouse is sticking, I open it up and scratch the fuzz off the rollers. That usually works, and there's no possible double-entendres for people with their minds in the gutter.

I find it shocking that you people are still using mouses with balls in them. It's 2003, buy a freaking optical mouse already.

Actually, I've been eyeing one of those Shirow designed optical mice for a long time. I might just have to drop the $80 to get it from J-List.

If you keep buying Shirow's merchandise, then he'll never feel like writing manga again.

Erm... I went to the final showing on the final (official) day of Fantasia, on the evening of Sunday, August 10th. There was some guy saying how this was originally going to be the final screening at Fantasia 2003 but they extended it two more days, and then he thanked Criterion for their interest in the event and handed out 3 of the Criterion DVDs of the older horror movies, and he invited the viewers to go to a Fantasia closing party at some bar after the screening (which I couldn't go to, since I live in the Wild Wild West and wanted to catch the 211 and get back early enough to call my brother to come and pick me up from Sainte Anne's so I wouldn't have to get a cab to Pincourt). Was that you?
