so,what was yout very first Miyazaki film that got you hooked to his wonderful movies? for me, my very first Miyazaki Film was Kiki's Delivery Service, it was so wonderful and heart warming which focused Kiki's quest for independence trying to adjust to life in a big city. Very Happy

I remember when the dub version first came out on VHS in 1998, I feel in love with it when I saw the commercial advertisement for it, and so I got it on my birthday on that year. it was one of the greatest heartwarming master pieces I have ever saw next to Spirited Away

so,which Miyazaki film was your very first?

The first Miyazaki film that I watched was My Neighbor Totoro but it didn't get me hooked. Princess Mononoke would be the second one that I watched but that also didn't get me hooked to his works. Spirited Away would have to be the one where I actually connected the name to his works. Smile

So it would have to be Spirited Away, for me.

My first was Castle in the Sky, which I thought was quite interesting, though a tad episodic for my tastes. I also have seen Kiki's Delivery Service, which I enjoyed more than dear Laputa.

Technically my first Miyazaki film was My Neighbor Totoro the fox dub. However I watched as a kid and beyond sub conscious it really didn't affect me as I don't really remember it. The next encounter I had with Miyazzki's works would be Spirited away. When Disney started to release all the Ghibli films I had a nostalgic feeling, no doubt from watch Totoro as a kid. but I digress Spirited Away is what really got me hooked/ rehooked into anime.

And as a side note as 2 of the 3 previous posts mentioned it Kiki's Delivery service. That is about the only one of his movies in which I'm really not a fan. Maybe it was the English dub maybe it was the plot, however the way I view it is that IO hold Miyazaki's films at a higher standard and for me even though it was a great movie was not up to what I expected it to be.

Spirited Away. Went to see it with some friends in the theater, found out it was Japanese several months later. I've since seen every Miyazaki film I could get my hands on.

Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro. I never realized it was a Miyazaki flick until I looked it up. Had the most elegant - yet wild - version of Fujiko. And that Clarice... hubba hubba. Twisted Evil

My first Miyazaki film was Kiki's Delivery Service which I saw on the Disney Channel several years back. The first Miyazaki movie I ever bought was the VHS release of Princess Mononoke and the first Miyazaki movie I bought on DVD was Spirited Away.

My first Miyazaki films were My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. I saw them both when Turner Classic Movies was airing the subbed and dubbed versions of Ghibli films, but I can't remember which was first.

But both captivated me with their unique storytelling and interesting characters.

I think mine was Totoro as well, like has been said, the original Dub. I miss that other totoro theme song "TOtoro, TO-tor-o" Extremely catchy. I think Kiki Followed. Both were released before Mononoke, which even that I dindt see until way later, even after having it on tape for a couple years. I didn't see it until I actually bought the DVD about 3 years ago.

My first Miyazaki film was also Kiki's Delivery Service. To be honest, though, I didn't really like it all THAT much. Princess Mononoke, though, I thought was absolutely fantastic. That was probably when I really began to respect Miyazaki.

My first Miyazaki film was Princess Mononoke, which I saw just after I started getting into anime. It blew me AWAY! I never even realized that animated movies could be like that, could do the things that were depicted. The only other animated movies that I'd seen before were the Disney flicks.

PM rocked my socks off!

My first were Laputa and Valley of the Wind, Laputa before Valley of the Wind. I thought Laputa was pretty awsome I remember watching over and over again. Seriously I even dreamed about it when I was a kid and played out diffrent scenerios in my head. Razz Valley of the Wind was also a very memorable one...god where did you go James...heh he was a friend I had who was 8 years older then me, he lived next door and I would go over to look at his anime collection, he gave me my very first experience in anime. We moved away from there and I haven't seen him since. Anyways yeah those were my first Miyazaki films.

The first ever Miyazaki Hayao film that I saw was My Neighbor Totoro, years before I got into anime. Then my whole family watched Spirited Away, and we got hooked on that one. ANd then down the road I have also watched Nausicaa of the Valley of WInd, and then Princess Mononoke. Spirited Away at this point still outdoes them all for me, but Nausicaa comes in second.
