It will not be like Paprika in that it will not have a mature target audience but be one that children could enjoy. That said, it will not be a child-oriented film so it could be viewed with an adult’s perspective differently from how children will watch it.

That should be interesting. And the fact that this new movie will be set in the future just opens up a an endless amount of possibiilties for the setting, its elements, and whatever else his creative mind can conjure up.

By the way, did they ever announce a DVD release for Paprika, or am I thinking of something else by Sony?

It should be out after the theatrical premieres, I imagine.

But yes, it is indeed coming, which is great.

Tony K.: An R1 dvd was announced pre-maturely by Sony for last year, but then they took down the date.
http://www.animenewsservice.com/archives/marchxx.htm did have info on a Japanese UMD/Blu Ray release though.

I am hoping that Sony lets out when Paprika is coming to home video, I'd really like to have a copy of Paprika. As for Kon coming back to Television that's really exciting then actually hearing about the movie....well actually I am interested in the movie. But I think that Kon could really make something great if he had a 26 episode series. Paranoia Agent really was great and showed that Kon could translate well on the small screen.

Yeah, I was also glad to hear that he'd do TV again *eventually*... considering what Paranoia Agent was about, you'd think that he wouldn't do it again since it must be so stressful (but fun too, I guess)...

It must be stressful considering that one episode in Paranoia agent was dedicated to anime production and how it can drive employees to the brink of insanity.

And that, apparently, production seems to take place while the damn show is airing (this is a VERY blind assumption though... by all means, that could be wrong).

I've always treated every new Kon movie I've seen as an "event" of sorts. Not annual, but something I always mark on my calendar.

I cannot wait for his new work in 2009/10 and whatever TV show serial he comes up with. I'm curious to see how Kon would do with a story set in the 1920s or 30s. I'd expect it would have a Japanese setting, but I'd be interested to see him take on something outside that comfort zone.

OH CRAP YES. I'm a big slobbering dork for Kon and Vonnegut, so hearing that the former wants to do something influenced by the work and style of the latter is like hearing the full choir of angels for me. Very Happy

I also remember hearing about it then. When he was talking about the project the first thing that leapt to my mind was the "Dune" series. (At least in terms of setting.)

This sounds great. Paprika looks amazing and the idea of Satoshi-san making another TV series just makes my day.

The best news I've read all day. Loved Paranoia Agent and Paprika so I'm looking forward to more Kon-goodness.
