Oooh, a Silent Voice ranked at the top? I'm somewhat surprised. Good to know though since I enjoyed the manga and is eager to see the anime soon.

I also hope Haikyu!! will rank a bit higher next year.

Me too. I expected other, more action-oriented series to be at the top. Faith in the readers is (somewhat) restored! Smile

I'm amazed it got this high...Haikyu's primary demographic is women not men, I don't know of any guy that reads it tbh. I'm not saying it's good or bad since I haven't read it, but let's be honest a large male cast with sports is typically picked up by fujoshi's rather than anyone else.

I am amazed that I only recognize a few of the series on the list - I guess that speaks to how much of a pain it can be to find the 'good' series.

Happy seeing the 1st and 2nd ranked, both manga I plan on collecting when they come out in the west.

Also, nice to see Orange in the top 20. That's a series I'd like to check out, but it's only available digitally on Crunchy...maybe it'll see print, one day. Laughing

While it certainly is an anime that has lots of appeal on female readers, women are not its primary demographic, or else it wouldn't be published in the Weeky Shounen Jump magazine. It also has all the traits of a normal shounen sports manga. And Kuroko is still a lot more popular with fujoshis, I think.

...women read shounen jump too, just because it's marketed as a 'boys manga' doesn't make that the fanbase. But in recent years shounen sports manga have attracted a larger female following tbh, I mean: Yowamushi pedal, Kuroko, Free!(which is more of a bishounen show but I'll leave it here to prove my point) and again I don't really know any males who like sports series - maybe it's got a larger male demographic in Japan but I can't comment on that.
