I wonder if this is more good news, more bad news, or neither (good and bad). I don't know anything about business, lol! Anime exclamation

It seems fairly neutral to me. Obviously, it's not good to have to make adjustments due to a downturn in your particular market, but this doesn't come off as the company scrambling just to get by.

For the most part it sounds like "business as usual", especially in regards to consumer end of things, however if you are one of those being "pushed to retire" this might be the metaphorical "end of the world".

I don't think there be much harm resulting from this dissolving. I think Kadokawa is just being frugal to stay afloat.

Typical business procedures for the most part. As long as they don't turn Famitsu into a social gaming only magazine/gaming website everything will be fine, I need some place to have gaming coverage of Japan only fare on consoles and handhelds (although I don't trust their review scores).

How well it will go for them only time will tell. I wonder if they are in such dire condition to do this.

A bit disappointing that they are dissolving Kadokawa Shoten, but this is what happens when you have to try and stay alive in times like these when technology changes an industry, especially one related to printing and media.

Now I wonder what will happen to all of its manga counterparts, like Marukawa Shoten and Kadoyama Shoten lol.

I remember that back in '09 there was a Kadokawa US branch that offered titles like Chrome Shelled Regios for licensing.

Aren't they basically just lopping off the "Shoten"?

What surprises me is that they are keeping the ASCII Media Works brand.
