NEWS: 801 Media Schedules New Boys-Love Titles for 2008

Fuyu no Semi is "The Prime Minister's Secret Diplomacy"? What the hell? Do they even know what the series is ABOUT?

Fuyu no Semi (Winter Cicada) 's original Japanese title is so significant to the plot that the fact that they changed it to something so ridiculous (there IS NO PRIME MINISTER in Fuyu no Semi ANYWHERE) is no less than insulting.

With a name like 801 media, it sounded like this new group was in touch with its fanbase and thus less likely to make such glaring mistakes, but I guess I was wrong.

I don't know how many of these other licensed titles have changed titles, but from the looks of it, it sounds like they just pulled corny romance titles out of a hat of rejected porn flick names.

Just because a certain book contains a bit of adult material doesn't mean the title should be changed to suggest it. :\ It's lame, and I don't know who appreciates it. Reminds me of when they changed "Ikkitousen" to "Battle Vixens", and so on...

In January 2008, 801 will release The Prime Minister's Secret Diplomacy by Youka Nitta (Fuyu no Semi) and Love Circumstances by Aco Oumi.

Not to worry—801 Media know its material. This is the quote from the news article:

In other words, The Prime Minister's Secret Diplomacy is a manga from Youka Nitta, who is famous for Fuyu no Semi. The Prime Minister's Secret Diplomacy is definitely not the same work as Fuyu no Semi. The Prime Minister's Secret Diplomacy is a different manga by Nitta that 801 Media is releasing.

It's like saying, "In October 2007, Media Blasters will release Phoenix by Osamu Tezuka (Mighty Atom, Jungle Emperor)." The quote doesn't mean that Mighty Atom or Jungle Emperor is being renamed Phoenix.

Usually in the parenthesis following an author known for other titles, there's more than one title. And in this case, it sounds weird to say that a mangaka made an anime (there is no manga called "Fuyu no Semi" by Nitta Youka -- it's just the title of a story arc within another manga). Bad choice of an example of the author's work? Since animation is usually credited to the director or animation company, and manga is credited to... mangaka.
