Aand immediately lost any sympathy from me.

Though it must be stated the drawn images shouldn't count toward any crime no matter how vile they might be, provided of course no real underage models were used...

I do wonder about the wording though. "Appear to be of real girls..."? Seems to be slightly obscure wording there. I do wonder whether someone is this process is making it appear worse to avoid backlash. I am thinking they may be using obscure wording to describe some CG porn. The sentence certainly seems to be light if he was carrying porn involving actual girls.

He could've just said it was stylistic and that the girls were actually beyond 18 and also not f**king real.

So, which was it? Were there any actual girls involved, or were there not any actual girls involved? "Appear to be" doesn't make the matter definite, and yes, it does matter.

Pretty shoddy bit of reporting, IMO.

You would think it would be pretty clear, unless some of the images were photo-realistic.

Click-Bait or promoting their Journalist Agenda (or that they are just incompetent reporters, but I won't give them the benefit of the doubt).

And there goes another stain on Animes reputation in the US mainstream.

Isn't this a Canadian article? Would a lot of Americans really see this?

That would not surprise me either. Perhaps later we'll get more actual information.

I'd feel sorry for him if all images were anime. If they are not, then to hell with him. Also, on a related note, who the hell brings porn to work anyway?

About 15 years ago I was reworking a PC so it could be assigned to a new user. While cleaning out files I found a really big hidden directory ... it still makes me shudder to remember that. Shocked

I did a "bare metal" reinstall on the machine, was frankly tempted to dismantle it.

You know, this sort of thing is obviously super creepy, but I wish they'd focus on investigating where the photos came from, and maybe send the possessor to therapy instead of prison if there's no proof they actually did anything. That would go a lot farther towards actually protecting kids from these people, and merely having some third-party digital media is a dangerously flimsy thing to punish people for (what if he found the drive in a parking lot and hadn't looked at it, or worse, someone planted it on his desk?). But I guess policing has always been more about punishment than problem-solving.

Very obscure wording.
If I'd have to guess, I'd say the pornographic pictures were the anime ones, and the real ones were junior idols, or something of the like but nothing illegal.
But I might be wrong. Still "appears to be real" - excuse me? And "between 5 and 13" - which is it? There's a huge difference.

there are a bunch of these sex offenders around.. unless you live in the upper class neighborhoods (1 million + houses)

https://www.crimereports.com/

just type in your zip code and you will see some them popping up

*it's the red triangle with the human icon in the middle-- click on it and you will see their address, name, demographic info (ht, wt, age, etc)

some might not care..

but being a registered sex offender is the last thing you want on your life record...

Wait, he isn't a sex offender, is she?
I mean, he didn't do anything to a child, or did I miss something?

None of those links provide details of the exact nature of the material he was charged with possessing. It seems everyone involved is dancing around the issue, which makes me very suspicious as to what this was really about.

Certainly gives off the feeling as if the priority was for the media to antagonize pedophilia even more. And get some extra attention while at it.

"a few appear to be"
I'm going to bet it was just CGI, there's no "appear to be", they are either real or aren't.
I lol'd at "the moral of this story is "not to go looking because you never know what you may find that will get you in trouble."", seriously? Like you haven't looked for porn online.

Depends what you consider "better", those don't even mention the images might have been anime.
