Speaking of macrons, when I need one for input I have a page bookmarked that I use to copy and paste. This is very 1995 AOL parentish of me. I was wondering if it would be feasible to have an onscreen keyboard? Sort of like how there are buttons in the forum to insert BBCode, could you add macron buttons to the forum dialog box, and maybe a floating toolbox that stays in the top tight of your screen in the encyclopedia data entry, that you could toggle on and off in encyclopedia settings?

You know, I've been thinking I needed to do something like for years. And since I'm a man of action (if you count glaciers moving as "action"), I've added a macron modifier key to all textboxes on the site.
Type Alt+Hyphen followed by the vowel you wish to macronize.
If your keyboard has a macron key you can also use that. For example on my keyboard I can type AltChar+comma to get a macron character (without any vowel under it); it's kind of useless on its own so I made it equivalent to Alt+Hyphen. Same for AltChar+period, which did nothing on my computer but supposedly should since it has a little macron glyph on my keyboard.

This isn't doing anything for me when I try it out. I've tried Alt+ - releasing and pressing a vowel as well as pressing all three keys at the same time.
I tried both alt keys.

Damn, looks like cross-browser compatibility is inexistent when it comes to keypress events

For what it's worth it does work for me in Firefox on my Windows 7 Acer laptop.
It is a bit awkward because the keys are rather far apart, but it does work.

In testing, I found out that alt+o activates the list tag in addition to alt+l. That seems strange.

Works in Firefox 38.0.5 on Windows 7, does not work in Chrome 42.0.2311.152 m on the same machine.
Interestingly, the PHPBB hot keys (alt-b, etc...) do work in Chrome.

Fixed for Chrome.
(interestingly, on my keyboard the macron-like glyph for AltChar+period turned out to be a soft hyphen, so I'm not converting it to macron anymore)

Still doesn't do anything for me.
Tried the same things as before. Still works in Firefox though.
Edit: this is the version of Chrome I'm using: 42.0.2311.152 (Official Build) m (32-bit)

Huh, well that was weird. Looks like when I uploaded the fix, it only "took hold" on moeka. And that's the server I got when I tested the fix. But now it's on all the servers.

Mē tōō, I just misread the instructions. I was typing alt+-+vowel.
Thanks, Dan!

I noticed Alt+Hyphen doesn't seem to be working right now. Not sure if it's something on my end or not, so asking out of curiosity if the feature (maybe accidentally?) was removed.
