I believe with the impact these games have had on video games as a whole this is a perfect 1st class for the hall of fame. People have been asking what about Final Fantasy or other games as that but these games changed gaming. Either they are so iconic they can't be left off like Tetris or they changed gaming. Doom was the game that really pushed the first person shooter, WOW revolutionized the mmo and made it what it is today, Mario was really the beginning of the home console craze, Pong was the first game ever, and Pacman was king of the arcades.

Pong wasn't the first game, just the first console game, Computer Space and Tennis for Two came before it.
The choice are solid although I never played WOW at all and heard about it very late. |

It's no surprise that Super Mario Bros. made it to the Video Game Hall of Fame. The lovely characters and the resonating music of the title was what has gotten myself truly interested in gaming ever since I played it on my Game Boy Color.

They're missing the grandfather of shooters, Wolfenstein 3D. Also, WoW seems out of place.

Why do you think World of Warcraft looks unfitting on the Hall of Fame? |

Not really before WOW MMO was more niche and for more hardcore gamers WOW blew up the market and made it for both the casual and the hardcore and almost all games followed it in style |

I would've liked to nominate Wii Sports too. The highest-selling non-mobile game surely made some major cultural impact.
The other thing is that Pong was the first video game to become popular. That is, it turned video games from this thing computer science nerds would play on their computers to something you see at arcades, convenience stores, malls, bowling alleys, movie theaters, pizza parlors, and so forth. Nolan Bushnell admitted he didn't expect Pong to take off as well as it did though. Which reminds me: If they could admit people to the Video Game Hall of Fame, I think Bushnell should totally be inducted to it. Then again, he was just inducted into the Pinball Expo Hall of Fame in 2014. So maybe Shigeru Miyamoto. |

Shigeru Miyamoto would be a definite 1st class for people allowed into the video game hall of fame. He created some of the greatest icons of video game culture Mario, Donkey Kong and Link along with making Nintendo the most iconic home gaming system ever. Others that may be introduced would be the likes of Richard Garriott the Ultima franchise creator and the foundation that series built that many RPG games in the west used. |

After writing this post, I find myself wondering if Descent can't find a way to squeeze itself in. Unfortunately the genre was never that popular, but it's the oldest 3D-rendered game I know of(sans powerups, hostages and missiles).
Heck, if you use the mouse look, Doom still plays great after all this time. |

There's a documentary on Netflix, "Atari: Game Over", about New Mexico's attempt to dig up the mysterious "burial ground" and see if all those ET cartridges really are buried there, and in the process do a quick documentary recap on the rise and fall of Atari-- The end result was that spoiler[a lot of surplus cartridges were buried in New Mexico, and ET's were actually in the minority]--What "killed Atari" was more likely the disappointment of the 5200 and the failure of the Jaguar, the move from home videogames to home personal computers like Commodore, and a little competitor called Nintendo that was just getting noticed that same year. As for my choices, I assume Final Fantasy VII (the first official move from sprites-on-a-map RPG's to cinematic stories) will be on next year's cut, but Angry Birds?? Yes, I know it's the first rise of the tablet game, but to borrow a cliche' anime-ism, it's ten years too young to compete with the others. And if The Oregon Trail gets a slot for the popularity of the CD-ROM game, Myst should have a lock. Last edited by EricJ2 on Sun Jun 07, 2015 9:48 am; edited 1 time in total |

Well, that's a class that's hard to argue with. Those are six of the most revolutionary games ever made.
Space Invaders definitely needs to be part of the second class - personally I'd induct it with Civilization (the first 4X game most people ever played, and the series as a whole has sold almost 30 million units), Spacewar! (the first digital computer game, the first shooter game, and the first video game to spawn its own modding community), Madden (the crown jewel franchise of sports games), and Street Fighter II (did for fighting games what WoW did for mmo games).
Yep. Miyamoto would absolutely be first ballot if they inducted people, as would Nolan Bushnell. You'd also have to take a long look at Sid Meier, "The Father of Video Games" Ralph Baer, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Will Wright, Yu Suzuki, John Carmack, and Gunpei Yokoi too. |

Are you for real, there are even ones that predate it, but things like Everquest are responsible for the modern mmorpgs. Wow just came along at the right time, and also benefitted from the lore of warcraft, yes there is an actually series called warcraft that predates wow by years. Wow imo is not even the best or most revolutionary Blizzard game, I would give that to the Diablo Series. Also its a joke that there Wow is the only role playing inducted. Role playing games are the foundation for like half the the genres that are popular today, Wrpgs, mmorpgs, jrpgs, rts, mon games, etc. I also find the lack of Gran Turismo or a survival horror game disturbing. This hall of fame class seems to be less about games that are actually great ie hall of fame worthy, and more about games that were historically significant. I mean if we were rating great mario games , 64, galaxy, seven stars, bros 3, mario world , basically most other mario games would get in first. |

Yeah, that's an anecdote Bushnell likes to tell. The last time I heard it, though, he said the machine was in gamma testing, having been brought out at several locations to see how the public responds to their presence. Incidents like these are what ultimately caused Bushnell to decide to move to the other side of the coin-op business and found Chuck E. Cheese's.
Then what would you call a collection of people, events, or objects that are historically significant? Because that's how I've always considered a hall of fame to be. |

Angry Birds really? No seriously Angry Birds, there are a million other games that could of taken its place. This is supposed to be Video Games that are important tot he history of Video Games. Why not a pioneering RPG, one of the early breakthrough 3D games, a breakthrough open world game or maybe even one that broke new grounds in storytelling in games. But no, just throw in some mobile game.
