It'd be great if they produced the entire dvd, so that we don't get a debacle similar to Innocence.
He lives in L.A. and is getting that "Stranglehold" for the 360 out next month, so it's not that surprising.
Sweet deal. I'll bite, as long as it doesn't get screened in out of the way places like previous theatrical releases.
I'm guessing Transformers is the only reason it's getting off the ground. How Watchmen will do will probably seal the deal.
I'm gonna bet Bandai Visual is going to keep it, so they can use it as a trump card to sell other overpriced titles. |

I really don't like it when companies that don't focus on anime license anime, it usually doesn't end well. Innocence for example as Gatsu pointed out. I don't think Appleseed released by WB will be that good. I'm guessing no special edition and very few extras. I really hope the Eva movie starts to get some steam behind it. I agree with Gatsu that Transformers probably helped, but if I may ask, what will how well Watchmen does have to do with the Eva movie?

Berserk: The only issue left for an Eva movie is whether its serious material will hurt its general audience potential. Besides The Crow, V for Vendetta and Sin City, very few comic book movies which have edgy and dark content do well at the box office. (See A History of Violence, Hellboy, and even Road to Perdition. The latter should have been huge with Hanks involved!) Hell, even Batman Begins took longer to make its money back than the previous films. The reason Sin City and V worked was that they had big names attached to it, while The Crow had a a tragedy attached to it. Watchmen has the dual burden of having to trim a 500 page comic into a 2.5 hour movie and still be marketable to the casual moviegoer. I'd imagine Eva having a similar issue.

Thanks Gatsu. You're right, I guess we better hope Watchmen does really well. Although I'm guessing that if Eva gets off of the ground, they're going to want to do it as a trilogy.

yeah, that is the usual trend. But it would be better than cramming the whole story into one movie

I was trying to figure out why Warner Brohers listed the ADV panel among their events of the day on their Saturday events, though the joint venture thing explained it so presumably even though Warner Brothers has a lengthy history in animation (Bugs Bunny for one), they apparently feel better going with a company familiar with anime to put Appleseed over.
On the other hand, the Eva movie still sounds like a niche market thing. It may be big in anime, but anime is nothing compared to the usual Hollywood blockbuster appeal, yet the title will likely need lots of expensive effects. It sounds like a hard sell. |

Dude, did you see how much Transformers made? Eva might not open as well, but at least the idea of it not being able to make its money back doesn't sound as absurd now as it did in the past. |

Eva doesn't have 25 years of history with the US. It would probably cost as much as Transformers to make, and make about a tenth as much. ADV is just stringing a carrot along to keep word of Eva out there. Eva has as much a chance of seeing the light of day as DBZ the movie does. Think about it, the best selling anime series to my understanding is Innuyasha, and collectively it has sold over a million copies. Transformers the movie will sell that much probably in the first day. Transformers cartoons I bet have sold individually more then any anime has collectively.

Transformers is an action flick
Eva is 2001 Space Odyssey--ooo what does it mean? Parents can take their kids to Transformers & enjoy whether they know squat about the title or not. Eva is not that accessable. It's more Star Trek--it has its fans, but it isn't all that appealing to outsiders. |

I don't know if its just me but when I watched Transformers for the second time, right in the middle of the film I started thinking; "Hmm alot of good franchise can now be ready to make the big leap", I suddenly thought about Evangelion, Gundam, etc...

Seraphim: They already did a live-action Gundam, and no one liked it. Of course, that series has had its ups and downs, so there's always a second chance...
