Really? Well, I've never seen the franchise before but this definitely sounds interesting.

I'm a bit worried about it being CG, but these are the same guys who did the Resident Evil movies (the good ones, not that bad fanfiction they called a movie) and those looked phenomenal so if it can look anywhere near as good as those it's fine by me. Besides, more Vampire Hunter D is never a bad thing.

Is the Sentai Filmworks release of the OVA going to only have their new dub or will it also have the (in my opinion, classic) Streamline dub?

This should have been made age's ago...While i can understand of people being afraid it being composed of CGI Animation it should be fine....even the animation is bad or good as long as they deliver the same story lie and adapt it well it should be enough Very Happy

'Bout freaking time; D needs to show everyone else how you do vampires right. Though the question is which of the novels this will adapt; I know Kikuchi is interested in doing Mysterious Journey to the Northern Sea or another one of the multi-part stories.

CG? Bleeeech. Sidonia only manages to muscle through it's cel-shaded CG by virtue of it being sci-fi set in space, so lots of robust and mechanical objects that turn out looking fine, same with the ships in Arpeggio. For something that's more like EXTREMELY LOW SCIENCE/fantasy, then good god no it's gonna be hard to reconcile that. Just look at the travesty of the Berserk films.

California-based production studio Unified Pictures told ANN that it is unveiling plans for a new CG-animated series based on Hideyuki Kikuchi's long-running Vampire Hunter D novel series at Anime Expo.

Oh well that is a shame, I take it they don't care enough to make it hand drawn, then again that sort of thing is dead in the US. Crying or Very sad

Why does the preview image on the front page say that Kawajiri is involved, but the article makes no mention of this? Also, it's Yoshiaki Kawajiri, not Yoshiyuki.

I'm excited at the prospect of a new Vampire Hunter D series, but the idea of it being CGI REALLY kills it for me.

I have been saying in this forum this series was past due and here it is the announcement at last, hope they don't pull a sailor moon crystal delay and release it in one year or less.

I hope they imitate David Productions Jojo and use CGI to create the illusion of (very detailed) hand drawn animation. We will have to wait until they release a preview.

I completely agree with this. CG animation? Forget it. Studio 4C ruined the Berserk movies with too much CG, I figure this will go somewhere along that route.
