It is useless to start a new manga publication nowadays, you are competing with too many other publications that have been in circulation for a while. Especially if you're catering only to hardcore otaku types, that is not going to keep it going at all. Better just to keep it online. Publications like the shonen magazines and the young magazines won't go away anytime soon, but even they are struggling I believe.

While this is true, another factor is to consider is that the individual titles often can help the print industry: One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, etc. When you have these titles selling tens to hundreds of millions of copies, it does help the companies.
