Sorry if this has come up before, but any thought on making one reviewer the designated plot summarizer? I find myself skimming the first paragraph or two on every review after the first one, since they're generally the same basic outline of what the show is about and what the main beats of the episode are.

Heavy Object - 3.5/5
Lots of exposition, but I'm really digging the characters and the concept.

Noragami Aragoto - 5/5
It's Noragami! Bones didn't really need to do much different to guarantee a 5/5 from me, and many of the plot points introduced are pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to more Smile

Heavy Object: wow Zac tore into that one.

I had a bad feeling about this show depite me being a fan of the author's previous work, Toaru Majutsu no Index, because I couldn't make it through the first volume of the light novel without getting bored due to the extraneous amount of exposition invovled.

I will check the show out and see how it is later but if what Zac says is true, I may be hating this and the author's previous work.

Sorry - can't change the way the guide is written in the middle of it like this. I've thought of a few different ways to do it. We'll see how it goes.

This anime year was comparable to a crawl though a desert and last season was a miasmic drink of salt water that drowned in bad porn like never before. 3 such titles are present this round unless we count OVAs and i can´t see a trend.

Concrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou I could never figure out if Seiji Mizushima is actually talented or but he can´t do 3rd acts and his bro Shō Aikawa certainly isn´t. Things could work out or we could start strong and then go nowhere again. I will keep an open mind but the first red flag will be my exit.

Garo: Guren no Tsuki The first one had a good start but started to sour pretty fast so i left early and it fell of a cliff later. Let's not repeat that.

Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans G-Reco wasn´t traditionally good (how did i finish?) and the anime arm of the franchise is in a bad state right now. The chance to be good is there but the creators are the definition if "milla vanilla". Worse people made good Gundam shows though and it will automatically be one of the best products from Sunrise in years as that studio couldn´t sink any lower. Thank god that their recent trash hurt them in their money pockets as the industry doesn´t need any more all ages rape porn with PowerPoint levels of animation.

Hokuto no Ken - Ichigo Aji / DD Hokuto no Ken It makes sense to turn Ken´s ultra macho world into SD insanity but 2 of these are overkill as the chances of even one to succeed are low. The Naruto SD manga is the sole such spin-off that kind off works and i look forward to the day Miura sells his integrity too as Berserk babies is just what the world needs.

Lupin The Third is the episodic caper most expected and the animation was impressive during the first 2 episodes as the international funding is very much on screen. Even the later production values put most current OVA´s to shame and i only mind the new Mary Sue female lead overall. If you want more Castle of Cagliostro then here it is and Goemon is also better used than in the other/slightly superior reboot.

Noragami Aragoto I tried the decent manga twice and the artist needs a proper writer as i finished her Tadashi´s Alive. Nothing for me but young girls will like it and the manga should have run in a shoujo magazine.

One-Punch Man I never warmed up to the manga but Madhouse and animation could elevate the source material. The popularity also shows the growing importance of web publications as that is where the wind is blowing.

Owarimonogatari The first show was style over substance and Shaft in a nutshell but it was better than it had any rights to be and ended on a conclusive note. I thus stopped episodes into S02 to never looked back. The cash cow says moo but somewhat watchable ecchi/harem shows are very rare.

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru Both creators are no names and the writer is half responsible for the nonsensical Penguindrum so who knows. The style looks good but suspense stories need substance.

Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou I hope that an uncensored OVA adaptation of Before the Fall will come soon as all these trashy Titan spin-offs Kodansha commissions will burry the core manga one day. It´s at least a tiny bit less offensive then the near unmatchable Toei movie but wasting IG like this is unforgivable and there are actually 2 Titan babies manga.

Soukyuu no Fafner EXODUS 2
I mostly like Ubukata (unless he truly went to the Sean Connery school of beating women) and i don´t put the blame on him for this mess but how the hell is this pathetic Eva/Rahxephon clone still chugging along? The original show is comedy gold though as i had it on in the background a few years ago and it was cute to laugh at it´s attempts to be a "real" anime. Xebec go home.

Subete ga F ni Naru I have been down this road before many times and don´t Noitamina originals look promising at first? They end up as style over substance with all bark and no bite way to often. Maybe this one will balance the scales a bit but at least it will lead to more people getting to know Inio Asano.

Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen The original show was one of the few porn adaptations that wasn´t nonsense as let´s say all of Key´s titles (they still do harem porn btw.) besides Air or even better Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. The first one´s genre mix was pretty unique so i would usually look forward to a more polished second offering but it had a definitive ending with no way to do a worthwhile follow up so this one could go both ways.

Young Black Jack is an adaptation of a flawed manga but i will try to stick around as superior adaptations do exist. An adaptation of Black Jack - Aoki Mirai (Old Black Jack) by the Parasyte mangaka (!) would have been preferable and the 90s OVA series is one of the best anime of all time so check it out if this one backfires. The OG manga is a classic too and the franchise needs to find a new publishing house.

The Aria the Avvenire OVA should be good but the manga is enough for me and i didn´t even bother with the 3rd Geass OVA as that way lies madness. Thus no.4 is a no go and the franchise turned to shit the last time they threw their scripts out the window so i am not touching the inevitable R3 too. The Tokyo Ghoul: Jack manga was sadly a waste so that OVA is to be skipped and i will wait for Tokyo Ghoul: Pinto which is based on a story from a light novel.
Dear Pierrot: Please leave TG:Re alone as you did enough harm. The Gyakusatsu Kikan film looks interesting or at least 80s cyber punk old school so i took a mental note for next year´s disc releases. The Ghost in the Shell (Arise) film and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin II though are soon coming to Blue Ray so i will get a rare glimpse of pure quality in a highly forgettable and in parts abysmal year. Sci-Fi is truly where one can expect the best content in anime.

I listed way more shows that could be interesting then at any point this year but i expect less then 1/3 to work out as they can´t all be winners. 2014 was very strong so it isn´t all bad and i look forward to the soon to come market crash as the industry need a future proof restructure and less vapid content. The American toon industry though is on a historical high right now so i am actually drowning in good animation all year long and can´t complain overall.
Edit: More pr0n showed up so i changed the number above. Sigh.

Oh sure, I appreciate that this is a ginormous undertaking. Thanks for getting it together every season. Was more thinking as a future suggestion.

I think both reviewers have stated that the problem is that they personally don't find the techincal exposition interesting. It's a matter of opinion, and there's nothing wrong with them not liking it.

Also, Hope did also say that she didn't like the part where the princess was almost crushed and Quenthur did nothing because he didn't want to touch her boobs. They also admitted that this could be good for those interested in the exposition (like me).

Man, it feels to acteally have similiar taste as the late-nigth tv anime customer base.
No idea where you're getting the idea from an upcomming crash from though.

An introductory episode is one that's supposed to get me excited about the story and characters so I'll keep watching. Heavy Object (I assume that's what you're talking about) is the exact opposite. I haven't been that bored by the first episode of a series since Mahouka.

Heavy Object 1

[Exposition clip showcasing war and writer displaying his variation of 'war never changes' line]

[moves to protag and friend]

"Ugh protag I hate shoveling snow and I am going to complain about it today the day the episode starts"

"Now now best friend, remember that awkward exposition"

"You're right protag"

"HAHAHA. Best friend, remind me of that character background information about you that I already know for exposition?"

and then the whole episode was this. lol

Hey I just wanted to say really quick - thank you Zack and all of the reviewer staff for the enormous undertaking of the preview guide! I bet it's a lot a work but it's really fun to read everyone's impressions. Smile

Looks like ep 13 of Noragami is up on Funimation! -cheerfully runs off to watch-

I had to jump in to correct this. KEY hasn't done any H-games since Kud Wafter. Little Busters! original version didn't even have H. That's 2010. Rewrite, Rewrite Harvest Fest, Angel Beats (rated All-Ages as far as I can find), and as far as I can find even the upcoming Harmonia is all-ages. In other words, they haven't had a "harem porn" in 5 years. That's no where near "still". I'm glad your research before you talked bad about one of the most loved and influential companies in the industry.

All that said, you seem to hate pretty much everything so I hope you manage to enjoy something this season.

And despite the complaints given on Heavy Object, I loved the author's previous works so I'll give it a fair shot of 3-4 episodes. I definitely doesn't seem to fit the type of anime these reviewers enjoy..and I feel that's the worst kind of people to review something. It's like when someone that hates FPS reviews a Battlefield game.

I usually pick two or three shows before they start and then I pick others that seem interesting or get good comments from the preview guide's reviewers.

So far, there's nothing from the preview guide that catches my attention (i.e. Lance & Masques and Heavy Object), so my Fall season starts on Saturday, with OP-man and Owarimono, and I can't wait for it!

So the real question is, what's going to be the big surprise this season? Seems like we've had a couple of them every season so far this year. Anyone placing bets?

My bets are on Comet Lucifer. Very Happy

Ahh, Heavy Object. I'm reminded of reading the first volume all over again.

The overall world is interesting, and the characters have a charm to them that only deepens as the story goes on. However, I can easily understand why people wouldn't be particularly engaged with the first episode. While it does introduce the basics of the world and rather eloquently show the sort of peaceful, placid affair that war has become, that also leads to an unengaging first episode.

Also, once again Funimation subs slaughter innocent Japanese names. Poor Heivia Winchell. Poor Legitimacy Kingdom.

And poor, poor Qwenser Barbotage.

But hey, I'll still watch the show because I really enjoy the scientific elements that Kamachi adds alongside the bickering buddy cop duo of the protagonists.
