From the "uh... better late than never?" department.

At least they're catering this to people who are a generation behind, with a retro feel in the advert.

With a premium Crunchyroll account, you can enjoy the latest anime from Japan in 1080p HD on your Nintendo Wii!

......

Oh wait... it's a console that only supports 480p! Rolling Eyes

You ever wake up in the morning and think "let's do some absurdly nonsensical shit"? That's what a Netflix executive went through with this announcement.

Instead of putting the app on the Wii... Maybe they should have focused on improving the apps already on other consoles. They have so many problems it's ridiculous. lol

Why launch an app for a console whose support has already been discontinued ages ago? Confused Perhaps Crunchyroll is betting that the many people that still have theirs Wiis would be interested in using their app on it?

It was actually GameSpy that decided to unexpectedly end online support for the Wii [and the original DS].

Yes, there are still people who still use a Wii (such as in my household), and at least COD: MW3 seems to still be online. The GameSpy change was the primary thing that brought down the console's multiplayer functionality, but it had no bearing on its streaming video apps, Shop Channel, or internet browser, which all still work. If you can get it to a console or device, why not? Especially one with an install base like the Wii.

Now, hopefully after this, CR will turn its attentions to addressing their desktop streaming service, patch up their Wii U app, and unlock the stereo channels in the PS3 app so you can hear audio from all of the speakers, like you can in the Wii U app… Smile

Well the Wii is the 2nd best selling console of all time, but hell I'm grasping at straws now. Why not create a 3ds/2ds streaming app instead?

This, but the biggest problem is that It will be either available for just the NEW 3DS or 240p, But I can't complain about these things...

Hear! Hear! Adobe Flash is in its death throes, they should update so people can watch CR without using that malware attracting legacy api.
