wow, i see the numbers and is not sure if the NX is coming out this year or setting up for an early 2017, they need to get Fire emblem and and smash on the NX asap. as lunch titles.

IF they add some good free to play games where you need to log-on every day and get cool bonus, It could work.

All I have to say is Zelda Wii U HAS to be Zelda Wii U and not NX. I just got a Wii U for the soul purpose of Zelda, and I doubt I'm the only one. I don't mind if they do a Twilight Princess and release it for both, but come on, I don't buy consoles till a year or two after release and I can't wait that long for Zelda.

@Kurohei: they've continually reaffirmed the new Zelda game is being released on Wii U.

@Malcom Whatley: Given how recently both Smash 4 and Fire Emblem: Fates are I would not expect new entries in those series as "lunch" titles.

Nintendo is biding their time to make sure things get done right. I think all this work is going to pay off for them once they have it rolling.

The NX still sounds more dedicated to home gaming than mobile gaming so I doubt that. The main line Pokémon games have always been on handheld consoles (with good reason) so I doubt that they would change it anytime soon.

Yeah yeah, just like how the DS was supposed to be its own thing and not the successor for the Gameboy Advance. Just another PR attempt to preemptively save face in case it fails.

When i read that NX was not going to be a successor of the Wii and it was going to be its own "thing", i instantly stopped reading. This is nintendo's last shot at getting in the living room ever again, they better not mess it up. Also don't be pissing off 3rd party devs with trash like you did with the Wii U.

Yeah I don't exactly understand what they mean by it being its own thing. With everything rumored about it, it basically has to to take the place of the Wii U and possibly 3DS. They can't continue on with either too much longer and having a third system would really split things up. I imagine it's just PR talk for their big system push, that could certainly have a new fresh take on things, but if it isn't competing on the level of the PS4/Xbone, there's no way Nintendo can suddenly start making 4 times the profits they are now.

Man, this wait to E3 is gonna be a long one. I'm hoping they start things off with an NX tease in like March, reveal the basics, and then use E3 to give us everything.

I swear I read before that the NX is simply straying from "motion controls" and "dual screens" and going for something else hopefully revolutionary. Otherwise, it IS meant to take over the Wii U.
They've been on top of things whenever they did something huge like this, so hopefully they know what they're doing still. But yes, great launch titles and incentives should be a top priority if they want people to purchase it upon launch and share great reviews for the next set of buyers and so on.
Which means it needs to be development-friendly. Or they won't have those launch titles that'll bring in the kinds of people they need to reach those goals.

I think the whole phrasing of it being its own thing was because of how they botched the Wii U release, with many people thinking it was just some sort of updated Wii and/or the controller was some kind of new Wiimote. I have no doubts this isn't going to be something completely revolutionary, or at least the general public likely won't see it that way.

IE: The most likely talk/rumors related to the NX have been that it will feature both a handheld and console variant, with the prior likely having the ability to be used as a controller for the NX console. They will share the same OS and account system (ala PSN), and likely allow you to play the handheld titles on your TV/through the home console.

I would assume the whole smartphone thing fits into that, with those titles being available on at least the NX handheld variant as well. I can't see Nintendo releasing games completely independent of their hardware ecosystem (yet).

I consider that to be evolutionary, not revolutionary. Nintendo and their treatment of game matchmaking, friends lists, their online ecosystem, etc. has been awkward and ancient at best. I don't think they're well positioned to innovate in the current convergent media environment.

Sounds reasonable. Can't put all your eggs in one basket, particularly if it's shrinking.

Didn't rumors say the NX would run an Android variant, even though Nintendo denied it (then again, they also denied the NX at one point too). That should make it attractive and easy for developers to bring them back making games for Nintendo again.

Addendum:

Seems Nintendo has to announce NX sooner rather than later - NPD just announced the results: 32% drop in portables.

I guess it's time for a new console and yet the Wii U hasn't really been out that long. Not as long as the Wii had been. I almost feel like they're abandoning this console. Oh well. Let's see how things go with this new machine. They better get as much IP's as they can to kick off this console and keep going.
