I want to watch this show but I have a feeling FUNimation will perhaps start a broadcast dub of this so I might wait a while to see if that happens.

They've already confirmed that they are doing a broadcast dub. We just don't know if they're planning to put it on DubbleTalk or Toonami just yet.

I must've missed that announcement, looking forward to it then.

One of my most anticipated spring anime for this year. :D The first two episodes did not disappoint and I hope the upcoming episodes are just as great. I think there will be a season 2 for MHA but probably coming out in the fall/winter or maybe even next year considering that's the trend for the latest BONES anime.

I would be a huge liar if I didn't say that I don't sob when Midoriya or his mom start crying, because I did when I started the manga, and I do now. I'm unsure too as to how Horikoshi does it, but there is definetely something in his storytelling and art that just punches me in the gut really hard, and definetely BONES matches his work with scary perfection.

Most likely, I think that there is huge emotion put into whatever scene he is doing except when humour or infodump is considered, all his effort is not in just making it look cool (which he does, awesomely so), but every action scene "breathes" with the character's emotion, from their movement to their face and dialogue. The animation just makes it even more obvious with voice acting, this series is emotionally honest..

I thought I was the only one, but certain scenes of the show is hitting me hard. It happened during that scene you mentioned between Deku and his mom, and then during last episode, when Deku jump into the battlefield out of instinct. The execution so far has been wonderful, and I completely agree with you that every action scene is full of the characters emotions. If it keeps up with that feel, then this might turn out to be one of my favorites of the season.

I absolutely adore the manga, it's probably one of my favourites of recent years (up there with Food Wars for my favourite currently ongoing) and so this was one of my most hyped series of this season.

And they did it. Bones, as is their forte, adapted this wonderfully. I will willingly admit that these two episodes managed to get me emotional, and that the handling of Midoriya was awesome. I cannot wait to see where they take this up to, spoiler[my bets are on either the school tournament if they pick up the speed a little bit, or the first encounter with the villains league if they stay at their current pace], but no matter what I hope that this really hits off as the next great shonen series that it deserves to be.

Anyway, despite my enthusiasm, I did feel a little let down by episode one on its own. Something about the way they paced it just didn't jive the way I had hoped. It honestly gave the same feeling that I heard a lot of people felt about the first half of Re:Zero episode one. That said, when combined with episode two, this really stands out as the show I had hoped it would be.

Also, I just have to say that I love the fact that they got the composer of Haikyu!, Death Parade and Gundam Build Fighters - among others - to do this one. He's got a great grasp on getting the viewer emotional and the soundtrack has been pretty killer these two episodes. Extra kudos to Porno Graffiti for the awesome opening theme. What a way to start a series off! Very Happy

Yea, I don't really like/get comparisons some people make between OPM and this. OPM's a parody while MHA operates the straight way. They're both fantastic, but should be perceived through different lenses.

I'd say that a key part of MHA's allure is how apparent the energy Horikoshi pours into this with such passion is. He was a WSJ reader growing up. He obviously also likes western superhero comics. This series is basically a love letter to both interests.

The way it was hyped before release one might think it was supposed to be something radically different from the standard tournament shounen formula. In reality however My Hero Academia probably the most by the numbers WSJ property of recent years.

You have to understand that Funimation is hyping this title because it could be a big hit for them. I watched the first episode, and the anime seems well made, but I have little interest in shounen shows, especially when they have a family friendly vibe like My Hero Academia does.

Isn't Funimation kind of putting a lot of their eggs into this basket as their licenses for much of their big stuff expiring soon/recently? I recall reading somewhere here that their rights to FMA expired very recently, at least.

As for the general internet hype, I'm not so sure how one would expect something revolutionary. As I understand it, the hype around MHA tended to be more along the lines of 'THE NEXT NARUTO/ONE PIECE'; not so much exclamations about it being groundbreaking or something like that. Hell, even when I myself go around to sing the praises of the manga before the anime started, I basically say stuff along the lines of 'It's early Naruto, but with a superhero motif instead of ninja. And its execution is fantastc.'

Episodes #1-2:

I really liked the first two episodes: they had compelling story, and good animation & character models, and as far as shows premieres go, it was an exemplary execution. However, that was one thing that lessened the whole build-up that the episodes tried to achieve, and that was the closing monologue on how it is the story of how he became the "World's greatest Hero." It flt like a cheap hook aiming to keep audience psyched for the next episode, and it put quite a smear on my perception of those 2 episodes. It rubbed me the wrong way, and that's a shame.

Smells like a One-Punch Man ripoff anime for children.

That... takes a misread of what One-Punch Man is.

There's also the fact that the manga is twice as long as one punch man and comes out regularly each week. Granted I'm not hating on one punch man, love the series, but its nice to have a consistent release for a work you enjoy.

It's definitely reminiscent of early naruto in terms of getting to know the characters and seeing all their early adventures, which is a good thing. I don't think its a bad comparison. the question is whether it will run out of gas like naruto and get bogged down or whether it will be able to keep up the momentum constantly like one piece.

Yeah, because OPM invented the superhero anime. "Zetman" and "Tiger & Bunny" tell that show to Eff-off.

Episodes 1 and 2 were so awesome! One little thing that bothered me though was the slime monster's garbled voice (almost if like he was talking underwater). I get that he's made of slime, but I prefer that he has a clear voice like everyone else. Other than that, everything else about the anime is so far flawless! Can't wait for the broadcast dub!

Because I'm actually not all that fond of chapter 1 aside as a means to ground where the most important characters starting points are (Midoriya and to a lesser extent Bakugou and to an even lesser extent All Might) so while I enjoyed the production values and seeing the big reckless rescue scene animated (I especially loved that bit where it;s over where All Might sort of stops himself from stumbling over to keep face among the cheering crowd) but narrativly I just wanted to get on to the other, much MUCH better stuff and leave this part in the dust. That said I didn't care for how this was elongated to two episodes but if it works in the long run then whatever.

I can't say I was as emotional towards Midorya being told you "can't/CAN" become a hero if only because I've seen so many first chapters of this nature and I still needed something to tell me this series had some emotional grit of it's own merits, which all come later (but thankfully for me I actually really like the parts were's about to go into next episode.) It's really only uphill from here and it's a real reward for sticking around after a somewhat unconvincing opening.

And Yes Horikoshi's art and designs are great and are THE reason I bothered to read on to chapter 2 when I read it as a manga.

Theres a good amount of idiots in the comments comparing My Hero Academia to One Punch Man. The only they have similar is there about heroes. Thats it. Two completely different stories. My Hero Academia actually having plot progression, while OPM is suppose to be funny, and a parody.

A lot of people are giving the show a hard time because they want it to be OPM, but its not, it has its own thing. You all know superheroes are the big thing now.

Also, so far there is no rank system. There is a 10 Top Heroes list though, and we just found that out in the last chapter.
