Alright, more episodes watched:

-Bungou Stray Dogs: I didn't need to know much about japanese literature for this one. I loved it from beginning to end. Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

-Joker Game: I'm on the edge regarding this one. But it seems it won't be going anywhere near nationalism, so we're good. I loved this episode from beginning to end. Rating: 5 out of 5.

From Jacob's Kabaneri review:
Quote:
While the script is being handled primarily by Code Geass graduate Ichiro Okouchi (whose shaky rap sheet is cause for concern), nothing about Kabaneri reminds me of the laborious Guilty Crown

Not even the theme song by EGOIST at the end??? Laughing

A little late to the game responding since I usually will only skim through ratings to pick up any series not already on my watch list and then go back to read the review text after I've watched the episode.

Kabaneri screams of Shingeki but hey, that's OK! I hope it can tide us over until the second season starts.

This season it's Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, JoJo, Boku no Hero Academia, Joker Game, Sousei no Onmyouji, Gundam UC RE:0096, Bungou Stray Dogs, and Sakaguchi desu ga? for me. I plan on checking out Super Lovers, Kizunaiver, Shounen Maid, Macross Delta, and possibly Flying Witch.

Glad to see the shorts roundup; I hope that continues for future seasons, particularly as it mentioned some that sound interesting on streaming sites I don't usually pay attention to and probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

Nitpick: Theron's review has a malformed html link. [EDIT: Since corrected. - Key]

Can someone answer this for me?

Why do people (including reviews...because they are people too Razz) think that we have been getting a lot of "trapped in a game" kind of anime? It's "trapped in a game" it's "trapped in another world" and we have been getting that since Magic Knight Rayearth (the oldest one i know off).

It's bothering me a lot because people see this setting as a negative point when we've had it for more than two decades.

Thank you for your time. Very Happy

PS: Gotta love TvTropes -> "Fans of the novel looked at the promotional art and compared the marketing to offering a child an ice cream cone with nails hidden inside of it." - About Re:Zero

I dont think this season even has any trapped in a game shows, neither did last season.

After seeing this, I can't help but think that trapped-in-a-game genres are pretty obscure among general public. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, anyone?

wow, I'm late. Anyway, yeah, they're obscure. Trapped in a game world stories are only the stories were they are trapped in an actual video game. I rambled on about the differences in the discussion for the grimgar review. I'm passionate about it, since transfer stories (what people here are calling "trapped in a fantasy") have become the new most common cliche among the coming light novels and the vast majority of web novels are this now. We haven't had an actual trapped in a game world story for awhile now. Also, Overlord is also transfer. It's part of a sub category where they are transferred in the body of their game character. In these stories, the world is just a fantasy world. The game mechanics only apply to them and have no connection to the world. This is the meaningful part of it since it decides how we should look at his actions, since the people he kills are real people, not npcs.

Seems like i got a new partner in crime Razz

I love this quote to describe Luluco. Laughing

It falls under the "don't review it if you aren't up-to-date on it" rule.

Of course, it's possible that either Rebecca, Jacob, or Lynzee is caught up on it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Really glad to see someone at ANN took my (and other's) advice to start reviewing shorts again, but hope this isn't dropped because of this season's relatively poor quality offerings from what people are saying. Don't blame me that you missed Sekko Boys, She and her Cat and some other goodies. Just keep at it and I'm sure some really good shorts will come along...

Definitely a weak season for shorts, especially compared to last season.

Luluco: Certainly the most worthy of the bunch. Imaishi to a T.

Usakame: I've joked for I while (not here though) that they could double the runtime of Teekyuu without adding new content by slowing the timing down a little, and aside from the closer, they nearly did exactly that Surprised . The characters haven't been as defined as Teekyuu yet, but if you liked Teekyuu, you might like Usakame.

Wagamama High Spec: Yeah not much but fanservice. All I'll say is that it is better than the previous resident of its timeslot, JK Meshi, which was basically a low rent Gourmet Girl Graffiti. If Gourmet Girl Graffiti and Food Wars were food porn (in more ways than one), JK Meshi was stick figures with crudely drawn breasts and gentleman's sausages going at it.

ah, pan de peace , a healing anime, but mostly a dud, the show is too short to actually relax you but even if it were longer it's (manga wise) one of the most boring ones so full lenght would be bad too; a short but 9 minutes long version would have been best.

but its best joke is that the one male character doesn't talk out loud because the game doesn't have male voices.

Wait what really? Hang on I need to see this...

Hahahaha oh wow it actually does. The best part is that the game actually DOES have male voices. RIP male version of the player character I guess.

And yeah Key it is connected to an MMO. This one actually has a western version of it running too.

Probably not enough content.

Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou is a masterpiece if I ever saw one. Food? Check. Hip Hop influenced music? Check.

This short is fire and even the art and animation fits it perfectly. I'm 100% on board with anything that has the MC saying he wants to be a man that heats up the club floor and fries up the tonkatsu.

Brilliance.

Wasn't going to watch Tonkatsu DJ, but the review intrigued me, so I did. It was...fly? fry? I dunno, it was sure something. Certainly worth a second episode. Smile

Never too interested in Tonkatsu DJ until I saw the setting. Mixing pork cutlet with DJs? This is one of the more unusual ones to date. So yeah, this short deserves more episodes for me to see where it goes. Luluco also seems interesting due to Imaishi in charge, and it has the best reception among this season's shorts, so I'll get to it for sure. Feels like this season is slightly lacking in good shorts, though.[/spoiler]
